This study examines the effects of university students' types of self-determination and academic emotions on their learning community participant competence. The subjects were 234 early-childhood preservice teachers attending a university or college in the Kyonggi and Incheon area of Korea. The first metric created by Bak et al. (2005) measured early-childhood preservice teachers' types of self-determination. The second metric developed by Kim & Kim (2016) measured their levels of learning community participant competence. The thirds metric, originally developed by Kim (2012) and So (2010), was modified by Chung (2015) to measure the academic emotions of subjects. The test results were analyzed by correlation and multi-regression techniques using SPSS 21 for Windows. The findings were as follows. First, there were significant relationships between the subjects' types of self-determination and the levels of learning community participant competence. Second, there were significant relationships between the subjects' academic positive and negative emotions and the levels of learning community participant competence. Third, the subjects' levels of learning community participant competence were perceived differently according to their academic emotions. Based on these results, implications pertaining to academic emotions on learning community participant competence are suggested.
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of moral disengagement concerning the parental psychological control on children's participant role behavior in bullying situations. For the purposes of this research, a group of participants comprising total 541 students of fifth, seventh, eighth, tenth and eleventh grades from schools based in Seoul and Incheon were surveyed. As far as research methods are concerned, scales for parental psychological control, moral disengagement and participant role behavior in a bullying situation were used. The main findings of this research were as follows. First, by gender, there was a significant difference in participant role behavior in bullying. By grade, a significant difference was shown in parental psychological control, participant role behavior in bullying and moral disengagement. Second, variables affecting participant role behavior in bullying situations were found to be influenced by the types of role behavior respectively as well as by students' grade levels. Third, moral disengagement concerning the influence of parental psychological control on participant role behavior was found to have a full mediating effect on bystander behavior among elementary school students and bullying behavior among middle school and high school students.
Background: The present study was performed to examine the factors required for active engagement of participants in exercise therapy by surveying the frequency of participation, fidelity of performance, and supporting materials and rewards provided to encourage participation in the study. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The survey was conducted in a population of 103 participants in at least one exercise treatment study. A 12-item questionnaire was designed to determine the frequency of exercise participation and fidelity of participant performance. Results: The results were subjected to frequency analysis and Pearson's correlation analysis. The subjects were less likely to exercise with the therapist and less likely to exercise at home. In addition, the provision of supplementary materials, to be considered when exercising at home, was insufficient. A strong positive correlation was found between the frequency of exercise in the presence of a therapist and the fidelity of participant performance (r=0.812, p=0.001), whereas a weak negative correlation was found between the frequency of unperformed exercises and the fidelity of participant performance (r=-0.523, p=0.023). Conclusion: The results of the present study suggested that it is necessary to increase the number of times that exercises are performed with the therapist to motivate increased frequency of exercise participation and fidelity of participant performance. In addition, appropriate rewards and periodic management are required.
This study explored the differences in gender, developmental period and parents in terms of parenting, the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships in parenting by gender, and the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between participant roles in bullying situations and parenting by gender. The subjects were 498 4-5th grade children and the instruments utilized in this study were the Parental Bonding Instrument (Bowers, Smith, & Binney, 1994) and the Participant Roles Scale (Sutton & Smith, 1999). The subjects were contacted again one year after the first contact. Results showed that the relationships between parents were longitudinally quite stable. Girls whose fathers had higher levels of accurate monitoring were more likely to be defenders cross-sectionally. Girls whose parents had more accurate monitoring were less likely to be victims longitudinally. The results underscore the importance of examining both gender and participant roles in bullying situations.
This study explored gender differences in social status, acceptance/rejection, perceived popularity, social emotions, avoidance and anxiety by participant roles in bullying situations. Subjects were 215 6th grade children. Instruments were the Participant Roles (Sutton & Smith, 1999), Peer Nomination (Coie & Dodge, 1983 Cillessen & Mayeux, 2004), Social Avoidance and Social Anxiety (Franke & Hymel, 1984) scales. Results showed that more boys than girls were in pro-bullying participant role groups; more girls than boys were in outsider groups. Boy pro-bullies were high in social rejection. Boy defenders were high in popularity and low in social avoidance. Boy outsiders had high social anxiety. Girl victims had low social status, low social acceptance and lowest perceived popularity; they were high in social avoidance and social rejection.
This study explored the participant roles and the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between interpersonal behavior characteristics and bullying/victimization. The subjects were 4th and 5th grade children and instruments were the Participant Roles Scale, Self-Report Coping Scale, Teenage Inventory of Social Skills, and Social Anxiety/Avoidance. They were contacted again one year later. In the distribution of participant roles at Time 1, defender of the victim was highest, then outsider; at Time 2 outsider was the highest and then defender. There was a tendency of gender difference in distribution of participant roles only at Time 1. Males were more in the group of reinforcer; females were more in the group of defender and victim. There were high positive correlations among bully/reinforcer/assistant scores. In the concurrent view, children who used approach coping strategies and showed higher social skills were more likely to be defender. Children who had lower social skills and higher social anxiety and social avoidance were more likely to be victim. In the longitudinal view, children who had developed higher social skills were more likely to be defender. Children who had employed less approach coping strategies and had showed lower social skills and higher social avoidance were more likely to be victim.
This study was carried out to compare parents' satisfaction with school foodservice between participants and non-participants of foodservice monitoring. Surveys were conducted in six schools that implemented foodservice monitoring. In these schools, 126 participants and 167 non-participants were surveyed. The results were as follows: The participant group was more satisfied with taste (participation 3.63, non-participation 3.20), quantity (participation 3.69, non-participation 3.20), and menu composition (participation 3.67, non-participation 3.16) than the non-participant group. In addition, the satisfaction level of the participant group (3.74) was significantly higher than that of the non-participant group (3.24) (p<0.01). It was also indicated that the overall level of trust toward the foodservice operation was significantly higher in the participant group (3.90) than in the non-participant group (3.32) (p<0.001). After participating in monitoring, 74.8% of the parents changed their perception on school foodservice and 84.7% of them became to have more positive views. In conclusion, we found that parents' participation in school foodservice monitoring had positive effects on their satisfaction and perceptions on school foodservice.

The study was to examine the effectiveness of the educational program for the parents of autistic children in promoting the development and amelioration of psychopathology. Behavioral pathology and developmental function of autistic children of two parent groups, parents who participated in educational program and parents who did not participate in that program, were compared before and after partent education program. For these purpose, the data were collected from 30 subjects(15 for participant group and 15 for non-participant group) who were diagnosed as Autism according to DSM-III at Child-Psychiatry of Seoul National University Hospital during May 16, 1987 through April 30, 1988. Pre and post tests by Schopler's Psycho-Educational Profile scale were performed for all of the subjects and the data were analyzed by Wilcoxon Rank Sum test, Wilcoxon Sign Rank test and $X^2-test.$ The results obtained were as follows ; 1) The autistic children of participant group were significantly higher than those of non-participant group after education on Imitation, Gross motor and Eye-hand Integration scale of developmental function area (p<0.05) 2) After education, the autistic children of participant group were significantly improved in Affect and Language scale of behavioral pathology area (p<0.05). 3) After education, the autistic children of participant group were significantly improved in developmental function, such as perception, Fine motor, Gross motor, Eye-hand Integration, Cognitive Performance, Cognitive Language (p<0.05). 4) The autistic children of non-participant group were significantly improved in Relating behavior and developmental functions such as Perception, Fine motor and Eye-hand Integration at post test in comparison to pre test (p<0.05). From these results, it might be concluded that the autistic children of participant group were improved much more, and obtained higher score in developmental function area than those of non-participant group. It is suggested that this kind of education program helped and supported the parents to do some more appropriate approach for the development of their children.
