GIS내 부분방전 검출을 위한 광대역 UHF 센서 개발 (The development of Ultra-High Frequency(UHF) sensor for Partial Discharge monitoring in Gas Insulated Switchgears)

  • We developed internal and external type sensor to measure ultra-high frequency (UHF) partial discharge (PD) in 170 kV gas-insulated switchgears (GIS). We also manufactured a PD-generator to verify and measure the detection sensitivity of those sensors. We measured the output power of the UHF PD sensors induced by PDs of 5 pC using the PD-generator. We measured UHF propagation loss of an 170 kV GIS for optimal arrangement of the sensors. We used swept UHF signal from a network analyzer into the GIS to measure the loss of various components of the GIS.

Asymmetric Capacitive Sensor for On-line and Real-time Partial Discharge Detection in Power Cables

  • Partial discharges (PD) have long been recognized as a major contributing factor to catastrophic failures in high-power equipment. As the demand for high voltage direct current (HVDC) facilities continues to rise, the significance of on-line and real-time monitoring of PD becomes increasingly prominent. In this study, we have designed, fabricated, and characterized a highly sensitive and cost-effective PD sensor comprising a pair of copper electrodes with different arc lengths. The key advantage of our sensor is its non-invasive nature, as it can be installed at any location along the entire power cable without requiring structural modifications. In contrast, conventional PD sensors are typically limited to installation at cable terminals or insulation joint boxes, often necessitating invasive alterations. Our PD sensor demonstrates exceptional accuracy in estimating PD location, with a success rate exceeding 95% in the straight sections of the power cable and surpassing 89% in curved sections. These remarkable characteristics indicate its high potential for realtime and on-line detection of PD.

  • Partial discharge(PD) tests are used to evaluate the insulation condition of stator windings in two 4.16kV and three 6.6kV motors. These tests were conducted using a conventional partial discharge detector(PDD) and turbine generator analyzer(TGA). Off-line PD measurements were performed on five high voltage motors. PD magnitudes ranged from 1000 pC to 5400 pC at the normal line-to-ground voltage. Five high voltage motors have been equipped with 80pF epoxy-mica coupler on the motor terminal box. The PD pulse from sensors were measured with the TGA instrument. TGA summarizes each plot with two Quantities such as the peak PD magnitude(Qm) and the total PD activity(NQN). The defect mechanisms of high voltage motor can be associated with PD patterns such as internal, slot and conductor surface discharges. The PDD and TGA test results of No. 4 motor showed that internal discharge was detected in voids of the groundwall insulation.

  • In order to analyze and diagnosis on Location of partial discharge in underground distribution cable, partial discharges were measured using eletromagnetic sensors, oscilloscope, PDMS system at on-site underground multi-circuit switches. Throughout the analysis using 3-phase simultaneous pulse analysis and pulse polarity comparison of circuits, it is possible to separate noises and PD pulses and to find out the location of the pulses.

  • UHF PD sensor has some disadvantages in measuring void discharges due to their frequency characteristics lower than 300MHz. Therefore, in this study, the possibility of VHF sensor in measuring partial discharges(PD) in GIS was investigated using simulated experiments. As a result, by installing VHF sensors to the copper bus of the encloser in GIS, it is confirmed that partial discharges could be perfectly detected, which means that VHF PD measuring technique can be the alternative of UHF PD method.

  • In this paper, we describe that the acoustic PD detection is examined in the various structures and position shapes of sensors. We find that the acoustic waves rate the complexity in various structures and position shapes of sensors may reduce the complexity of the acoustic wave in the PD detection of transformers.

  • In order to improve the reliability of high voltage rotating machines and mold transformers, it is necessary to understand the breakdown mechanism and life assessment of the high voltage winding parts. Especially the on-line PD test provides the ability to monitor effects, such as slot discharge, internal discharge, and end-winding discharge without interrupting the electrical machines, this method has been proven the major testing technology. Capacitive couplers have been the most widely used sensors for the on-line partial discharge detection in rotating machines nowadays. This paper deals with the electrical characteristics and long-term reliability of a ceramic coupler(CC), which can be easily mounted into high voltage input terminal part, has been developed and tested to continuously measure PD activity during operating condition. This paper presents electrical characteristics (dielectric loss angle, capacitance, PD inception level, breakdown voltage, and frequency response bandwidth) and long-term life test result of the developed 6.6 kV class on-line ceramic coupling sensor. It was found that this sensor had good electrical characteristics to detect PD activity during the operating condition with its detection frequency band is between several and several tens MHz. Also, the voltage life of the 6.6kV class ceramic coupler was calculated over 60 years.

  • 본 논문에서는 오차에 강인하게 초음파센서를 이용한 부분방전 위치를 추정하는 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 변압기 내부는 유온이 균일하지 않기 때문에 초음파의 절연유에서 전달 속도를 정확하게 산정하기 힘들다. 그렇기 때문에 처리 과정에서 일정 오차가 발생하게 된다. 따라서 점검자에게 유용한 정보를 제공하기 위해 부분방전의 위치추정 알고리즘은 이런 오차를 충분히 반영하여야 한다. 기존의 위치추정 기법은 좌표로 부분방전 발생 위치를 나타내었지만 본 논문에서 제시하는 Lookup-Table(LUT)를 이용한 기법은 부분방전 발생 위치를 지도형태로 나타내도록하여 점검자에게 충분히 유용한 정보를 제공할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 임의로 데이터에 오차를 일으켜 기존 기법과 제시한 기법의 성능을 비교하였다.

  • The system measuring the Partial discharge(PD) is very essential to investigate the hazard defects in the insulation systems of the high voltage engineering. We included two parts in this discussion; The proposed method of Foil Sensor Array and the normally used method m the practice. Firstly, it will be shown the improved sensitivity of our proposed FSA sensor compare with the existing normal foil sensor. And then, the linearity of detecting sensitivities of various kinds of FSA sensors such as $2{\times}2$, $2{\times}4$, $3{\times}3$ etc. using in our experiments, was shown. From the obtained results, we can see that FSA sensor is more sensitivity than normal foil sensor and the linear increment property of FSA sensitivities.
