  • Purpose. To assess peri-implant stress distribution using finite element analysis in implant supported fixed partial denture with occlusal schemes of cuspally loaded occlusion and implant protected occlusion. Materials and methods. A 3-D finite element model of mandible with D2 bone with partially edentulism with unilateral distal extension was made. Two Ti alloy identical implants with 4.2 mm diameter and 10 mm length were placed in the mandibular second premolar and the mandibular second molar region and prosthesis was given with the mandibular first molar pontic. Vertical load of 100 N and and oblique load of 70 N was applied on occlusal surface of prosthesis. Group 1 was cuspally loaded occlusion with total 8 contact points and Group 2 was implant protected occlusion with 3 contact points. Results. In Group 1 for vertical load, maximum stress was generated over implant having 14.3552 Mpa. While for oblique load, overall stress generated was 28.0732 Mpa. In Group 2 for vertical load, maximum stress was generated over crown and overall stress was 16.7682 Mpa. But for oblique load, crown stress and overall stress was maximum 22.7561 Mpa. When Group 1 is compared to Group 2, harmful oblique load caused maximum overall stress 28.0732 Mpa in Group 1. Conclusion. In Group 1, vertical load generated high implant stress, and oblique load generated high overall stresses, cortical stresses and crown stresses compared to vertical load. In Group 2, oblique load generated more overall stresses, cortical stresses, and crown stresses compared to vertical load. Implant protected occlusion generated lesser harmful oblique implant, crown, bone and overall stresses compared to cuspally loaded occlusion.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the magnitude and distribution of stress using photoelastic model with the rigid connection using T-block attachment and non-rigid connection using key & keyway attachment. The vertical load of 16 Kg was applied on the central fossa of the tooth, the pontic and the implant, and the pattern and distribution under each condition was analyzed. The following results were obtained : 1. In case of vertical load on the central fossa of the implant, the stress was concentrated at the apex of the implant involving the mesial alveolar bone in both fixed partial denture with the rigid connection and that with the nonrigid connection and the stress concentration at the mesial cervical area of the implant was a little more in the nonrigid connection than in the rigid connection. 2. In case of vertical load on the central fossa of the pontic, the stress was concentrated at the apex of 2nd bicuspid in both 3 unit fixed partial denture with nonrigid connection and that with the rigid connection. The stress was more concentrated at the mesial alveolar bone of the implant, but the stress distribution at the natural teeth more favorable at the rigid connection than at the non-rigid connection in case of 4 unit fixed partial denture. 3. In case of vertical load of the central fossa of the 2nd bicuspid, much stress with 3 fringe order was observed at the apex of the 2nd bicuspid in the 3 unit fixed partial denture, but relatively even stress distribution was observed at the apex of the implant, the 1st and 2nd bicuspid, and the adjacent cuspid in the 4 unit fixed partial denture.

  • Compressed natural gas has good potential for alternative vehicle fuel due to its economical and clean characteristics. However, the composition of natural gas based on production location is known to affect performance and emissions of CNG engine. Thus, the objective of this paper is to clarify the effect of fuel composition on combustion and emissions of CNG engine. This paper presents combustion characteristics obtained from running a 2.5L, 4-cylinder CNG engine retrofitted IDI diesel engine with engine dynamometer. BSFC, emissions, fuel consumption and combustion pressure were measured under steady state operating conditions especially at partial load for CNG engine. Based on the experimental results, we found that CNG composition affects engine performance, fuel conversion efficiency and burning rate.

  • Generally, space structures are subjected to severe situations, such as, sublimation, strong evaporation of lubricants, thermal stresses, high temperature gradients, irradiation, impacts by microscopic meteorites, and other factors. Recent]y, various kinds of coatings are applied to the parts under heavy contact stresses, in order to insure long wear-free lives and/or reduce friction coefficients. In space structures, molybdenum disulfide is using frequently. Moreover TiN, Al$_2$O$_3$, PTFE(Poly Tetra Fluor Ethylene) are introduced recently for space structure. In this part we are going to apply the partial model method, developed in reference[11] to analyze part with coated layer. In referencer[l1], we compute the reasonable size of partial model and aspect ratio. Using these data, we analyze the structures coated with TiN, Al$_2$O$_3$, PTFE under contact load, temperature and crack model . Beside, we consider the stress analysis under time dependent load and transient thermal effect.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stress distributions of the fixed partial denture with five unit intermediate abutment. This fixed partial denture was attached to a three dimensional photoelastic epoxy resin model. Three dimensional photoelastic models were used, with the stress areas recorded photographically. A vertical load was applied to the second molar, which is the most posterior abutment of the fixed partial denture. Similarly, a vertical load was applied to the first molar because this tooth receives the heaviest masticatory load. These loads were added to two types of fixed partial denture. the rigid connector, and the nonrigid connector which was connected on the distal side of the intermediate abutment by a key and keyway device. After the stress patterns in surrounding tissues were observed, the following conclusions were as follows: 1. When the vertical load was applied to the first and second molars on the occlusal surfaces, the surrounding tissues of the roots of the canine, the second premolar, and the second molar were all compressive stresses. 2. When the vertical load was applied on the occlusal surface of the second molar, the tissue surrounding the roots of the canine, the second premolar, and the second molar all showed more stresses with the nonrigid connector than with the rigid connector. 3. When the vertical load was applied to the occlusal surface of the first molar, the stress concentration on the canine and the second molar was similar, whether the rigid or nonrigic connectors were used. However, on the second premolar, the stress concentration shown by the nonrigid connector was noticeably more than that shown by the rigid connector. 4. Whether the rigid or nonrigid connectors were used, when the load was placed on the first molar, the stress concentration on the canine and the second premolar was greater than that observed for the second molar. When the load was placed on the second molar, the load affected the second molar more than the canine and the second premolar.

  • This paper presents the dynamic stability of a cantilevered Timoshenko beam with a concentrated mass, partially attached to elastic foundations, and subjected to a follower force. Governing equations are derived from the extended Hamilton's principle, and FEM is applied to solve the discretized equation. The influence of some parameters such as the elastic foundation parameter, the positions of partial elastic foundations, shear deformations, the rotary inertia of the beam, and the mass and the rotary inertia of the concentrated mass on the critical flutter load is investigated. Finally, the optimal attachment ratio of partial elastic foundation that maximizes the critical flutter load is presented.

  • The effect of splinting on aqbutment tooth distal movement was performed in vitro study. An acrylic resin mandibular model with missing 2nd premolars, molars and a removable partial denture framework were constructed. The roots of the canines, 1st premolars and edentulous ridges were coated with silicone rubber. A modified Ney Surveyor was used for vertical load appkication, and abutment tooth distal movement were measured with a dial gauge with four conditions of splinting methods were tested by applying unilateral vertical loadings. The results are follows; 1. The magnitude of abutment tooth distal movement on the non-load side was less 40$\sim$69% than that occurred on the load side. 2. On the load side, reducing effect of splinting on abutment tooth movement in the condition of load side double abutment(30%), non-load side double abutment(10%), double abutments of both sides(40%) was compared with single abutments of both sides. 3. On the non-load side, reducing effect of splinting on abutment tooth movement in the condition of load side double abutment(5%), non-load side double abutment(22%), double abutments of both sides(59%) was compared with single abutments of both sides. 4. The magnitude of abutment tooth distal movement in the condition of double abutments of both sides was less 40$\sim$59% than that in the condition of single abutments of both sides.

  • Purpose: This study was to propose the clear understanding for stress distribution of supporting bone by use of staggered buccal offset tripodal placement of fixtures of posterior 3 crown implant partial dentures. We realized posterior 3 crown implant fixed partial dentures through finite element modeling and analysed stress effect of implant arrangement location to supporting bone under external load using finite element method. Method: To understand stress distribution of 3 crown implant fixed partial dentures which have 2 different arrangement by finite element analysis. In each model, for loading condition, we applied $45^{\circ}$ oblique load to occlusal surface of crown and applied 100 N for 3 crown individually(total 300 N) for imitating possible oral loading condition. at this time, we calculated Von Mises stress distribution in supporting bone through finite element method. Result: When apply $45^{\circ}$ oblique load to in-line arrangement model, maximum stress result for 100 N for each 3 crown 47.566MPa. In tripodal placement, result for 1mm buccal offset tripodal placement implant model was maximum distributed load 51.418MPa, so result was higher than in-line arrangement model. Conclusion: In stress distribution result by placement of implant fixture, the most effective structure was in-line arrangement. The tripodal placement does not effective for stress distribution, gap cause more damage to supporting bone.
