  • In this study, the deformation characteristics of grain-size controlled rheology materials surfaces were investigated as a part of the research on the surface crack prediction in semi-solid formed automobile components. The microstructure of rheology Al-Si alloys consists of primary and eutectic regions. In eutectic regions the crack initiation begins with initial fracture of the eutectic silicon particles and inside other intermetallic phases. Nano-deformation characteristics in the eutectic and primary region of semi-solid aluminum alloys (356 alloy and 319 alloy) were investigated through the nanoindentation/scratch experiments and the AFM observation.

  • This study analyzes harmonic vibration with natural frequency according to the configuration of damper clutch. In the case of double spring, equivalent stress at same direction of the revolution at inner and outer coil spring is over 30% as compared with at its opposite direction. Natural frequency or harmonic response with maximum deformation in case of the less coil pitch is below 3Hz as compared with in case of the more coil pitch. As the coil pitch of damper spring as the case 2 or 4 becomes smaller, its mass and deformation can be large. In these cases, spring constant and natural frequency become smaller. In the case 5 or 6 of double spring at natural vibration or harmonic response, the frequency becomes over 300Hz. As the result of this study is applied by the design of damper spring, the damage at its connected part is prevented and the durability can be predicted.

  • This study deals with the viability of using a designed geometrical model consists of plane, polar coordinates (PC) and span length in the determination of bridges deformation. The data of a Tianjin Yonghe bridge located in the southern part of China as collected by RTK-DGPS technique and Accelerometer were used in the analysis. Kalman filter and fast Fourier transformation (FFT) analyses were used to determine the frequency. The results indicate that the designed plane and PC geometrical model are easy to calculate the long-time structural deformation monitoring. In addition, the observed frequency using GPS with the rate of 20 Hz doesn't give correction natural frequency of the observation structures.

  • Extruded Profiles of Aluminum alloys have been widely used as parts and frames in mechanical and construction structures. Nowadays, mechanical processing of extruded Al alloy profiles is often employed for various industrial applications. Especially, the bending process is more and more applied and the process is greatly influenced by the distributed mechanical properties in the extruded profiles. Due to large reduction of area or extrusion ratio in ordinary production of extruded profiles, anisotropy is naturally induced by large severe deformation during the extrusion process. Therefore, the anisotropy properties play a great role in the bending process, as a post processing of extruded profiles and errors will be involved when the extruded profiles are treated as isotropic material, ignoring the induced anisotropy in the thin-walled extruded product. In the present work, the anisotropic material change is simulated, as a simplified method, employing Barlats six-component yield criterion in the rigid-plastic finite element method. Finite element computations are carried out for extrusion of a thin-walled part.

  • In this study, the deformation behavior of semi-solid Al-Si alloy was investigated by nanoindenter as a part of the research on the surface crack behavior in thixoformed automobile component. The microstructure of semi-solid Al-Si alloy consists of primary and eutectic regions. In eutectic regions the crack initiation begins with initial fracture of the eutectic silicon particles and inside other intermetallic phases. Nano-deformation characteristics in the eutectic and primary phase of semi-solid aluminium alloy were investigated through the nano-indentation experiments and the AFM observation. In addition, mechanical properties of each region were investigated and compared with each other.

  • This research introduces easy tool manufacturing method regarding tool manufacturing procedure. In the conventional method, wire cutting machining and lapping operation of corner and render region were performed after shrink-fitting to ensure the accuracy of gear profile. But lapping operation is very difficult due to corner and render is located deep inside of die. In this research, wire cutting operation was performed after $1^{st}$ ring was shrink-fitted to ease lapping operation and increase the accuracy of corner radius. Before $2^{nd}$ ring fitting, lapping was completed. Elastic deformation amount due to $2^{nd}$ ring fitting and cold forging was calculated through finite element analysis and wire cutting specification was offset in that amount. Comparison of gear dimension between analysis and forged part ensures the validity of new manufacturing methods.

  • Rapid prototyping for welding and milling is a hybrid approach that makes use of welding as additive and conventional milling as subtractive technique. For two years this concept has been used to verify manufacturing mold and mechanical parts successfully. In latest new fabrication methods. For example, manufacturing mold for two sort of materials and shell fabrication, have been applied to the concept in KIST. This methods will be an alternative proposal in rapid prototyping. Metal deposition for welding causes the part to deform. It is a handicap in our proceeding. To overcome this problem, in this paper, we represent an optimal welding path for FEM analysis. Eight paths are tried to this and the value of deformation is average and standard deviation in four points'. Then we can compare with eight cases and select the optimal path.

  • The effect of static preload on the dynamic properties of rubber materials is rather important, especially when good isolation characteristics are required at high frequencies. However, there are still few papers for dynamic characteristics of compressed rubber components. It was demonstrated in reference (4) that for bonded rubber material of a cylindrical shape, a simplified theory equation between linear dynamic and nonlinear static behavior of rubber material was useful to predict their combined effects. This paper presents the second part of the study. It is confirmed that for the compressed rubber material, the stress can be factored into a function of frequency and a function of strain(stretch). The finite element methodis applied to analyze non-linear large deformation of rubber material and its results are compared with those of a simplified theory equation. The predicted dynamic material properties based on non-linear static finite element analyses have a good agreement of experimental results and those based on simplified theory equation.

  • The relationship between plastic deformation and crystal grain change in warm forging processes of SM100 carbon steel is studied. If the carbon steel is deformed in warm forging temperature (about recrystallization range), the crystal grain and cementite of the internal part are changed, so material properties are changed. Some experimental values, such as the elliptic degree of cementite, the grain size of cementitie and ferrite grain size, are investigated. When the plastic deformation proceeds, the elliptic degree of cementite becomes large, the grain size of cementite particle is small, and the size of ferrite grain appears fine by recrystallization. The elliptic degree of cementite has a considerable effect on formability. The distribution of effective strain in the forging is calculated by the rigid visco-plastic FEM analysis. The effective strain distribution obtained from the FEM simulation is compared with the experimental result. At effective strain 0.3 dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization begin, over 2.5 the organization of material has better quality that is suitable for the following cold forming.

  • A complete theoretical treatment of the photothermal displacement technique has been performed for thermal diffusivity measurement in semi-infinite solid materials. The influence of the parameters, such as radius and modulation frequency of the heating beam and the thermal diffusivity, was studied. Usually, thermal diffusivity was determined by the deformation angle and phase angle as the relative position between the heating and probe beams. In this study, we proposed the simple analysis method based on the real part of deformation gradient as the relative position between two beams. It is independent in the parameters such as power of heating beam, absorption coefficient, reflectivity, Poisson's ratio, and thermal expansion coefficient.
