  • In this study, near-infrared absorbing dyes, namely, new rigidified heptamethine cyanine dyes were synthesized and investigated their properties. The cyanine dyes have been synthesized by a condensation reaction between a quanternary salt containing as activated methyl group and an unsaturated bisaldehyde or its equivalent. We were investigated the synthesis of new rigidified heptamethine cyanine and related the compounds with near infrared absorption. The full spectroscopic characterization of all cyanine were described. Absorption properties in the near-infrared region may cause these dyes to the potential used in bio-probe, optical recording media materials.

  • The "Economy" is one of the hottest issues in Korean society these days, but there are still mixed views on the definition and approach to the creative economy, which is the catch phrase of the new government. Under these circumstances, this study assumes the current perspective of the domestic science and technology community on the creative economy fails to properly reflect the spirit of the times and so aims to suggest the "creative economy for people's happiness" as an alternative perspective along with a set of policy implications. To that end, this paper looks through the theory of the creative economy and examines existing perspectives on the creative economy from a critical point of view. And then, it explores the characteristics of the creative economy for people's happiness and related examples. Lastly, policy implications are drawn up for the Park Geun-hye government.

  • Endangered native plant habitats and populations are rapidly disappearing because of climate and environmental changes. As a representative, the abundance of the first-class endangered wild plant, Cypripedium japonicum, has been rapidly decreasing in Korea. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the distribution of rhizosphere and endophytic fungi on C. japonicum in its native habitat. A total of 440 rhizosphere and 79 endosphere fungi isolates were isolated and identified on the basis of their molecular characteristics. Sixty-five genera and 119 fungi species were identified in this study. The genus Trichoderma showed the highest abundance among both rhizosphere and endosphere fungi. Mortierella, Hypocrea, and Penicillium spp. were also relatively dominant species on C. japonicum. The community structures of rhizosphere and endosphere fungi were similar, but endosphere fungi showed greater diversity.

  • Capsaicin. the pungent component of chili pepper. opens a novel cation selective ion channel in the plasma membrane of peripheral sensory neurons. Capsaicin channel agonists induce pain upon topical application in the early stage. which is followed by a period of desensitization. Although the agonists have been studied as a analgesics, their initial irritancy became sever side effect. So competive antagonists have been pursued as a novel pharmacological agent for analgesics, rather than agonists. (omitted)

  • Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) is a cost-effective technique to fabricate metallic mirrors. In particular, the servo-assisted diamond turning option is highly useful for the fabrication of freeform surfaces. However, the SPDT process leaves periodic tool marks on machined mirror surfaces, leading to undesirable diffraction effect, as well as the deviation of input beam. In order to solve this problem, we propose new SPDT machining conditions to minimize tool marks. We will also show the results from optical measurement and Power Spectral Density (PSD) analysis to evaluate the expectable performance for applications in wide field infrared telescopes.

  • Objectives: This study reports using Hyungbangsabaksan to cure Soyangin Yangdokbalban (陽毒發斑) appealing Systemic Allergic Contact Dermatitis. Methods: After diagnosing the patient showing Papuloerythematous with no blisters in the body as a Soyangin Yangdokbalban (陽毒發斑), we prescribed the patient with Hyungbangsabak-san. We compared the condition of the patient before and after medication with photo shots. Results: After treatment, Papuloerythematous which was seen with the naked eye disappeared and various skin symptoms such as itching and warmth in the flare area also improved. Conclusions: After treatment, the symptoms of the patient who after eating lacquer chicken showed improvement.

  • Twenty-seven N,N',N"-trisubstituted thiourea derivatives were prepared. Among them, 1- [3-(4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxy-phenyl)-propyl] -1,3-diphenethyl-thiourea (81, IC$\sub$50/= 0,32 $\mu\textrm{m}$), showed 2-fold higher antagonistic activity than that of capsazepine (3, IC$\sub$50/= 0,65 $\mu\textrm{m}$) against the vanilloid receptor in a Ca$\^$2+/ -influx assay.

  • Zooplankton biomass is essential for understanding the quantitative structure of lake food webs and for the functional assessment of biotic interactions. In this study, we aimed to propose a biomass (dry weight) estimation method using the body length of cyclopoid copepods. These copepods play an important role as omnivores in lake zooplankton communities and contribute significantly to biomass. We validated several previously proposed estimation equations against direct measurements and compared the suitability of prosomal length versus total length of copepods to suggest a more appropriate estimation equation. After comparing the regression analysis results of various candidate equations with the actual values measured on a microbalance-using the coefficient of variation, mean absolute error, and coefficient of determination-it was determined that the Total Length-DW exponential regression equation [W=0.7775×e2.0183L; W (㎍), L (mm)] could be used to calculate biomass with higher accuracy. However, considering practical issues such as the morphological similarity between species and genera of copepods and the limitations of classifying copepodid stages, we derived a general regression equation for the pooled copepod community rather than a species-specific regression equation.

  • Cypripedium japonicum is known to be the indigenous plant to Korea, Japan, and China. However, C. japonicum represents the most critically endangered plant species in South Korea. The plant is esthetically pleasing due to its flower, which is larger than any other orchidaceous species. Disease symptoms relating to gray mold were observed on C. japonicum in May 2019. The suspected pathogen was successfully isolated from the symptomatic leaf tissue and conducted a pure culture of the fungi. The conidia formed consisted of a colorless or light brown single cell, which was either egg or oval-shaped with a size of 7.1 to 13.4 × 5.2 to 8.6 ㎛. Molecular phylogenetic relationship analysis was also confirmed that the pathogen concerned belonging to the family of Botrytis cinerea. Therefore, the findings confirmed that the pathogen isolated from C. japonicum was consistent with the unique properties of B. cinerea.
