  • Purpose: Treatment of diabetic foot infection due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) remains challenging. Applying vancomycin-impregnated cement is one of the best methods of treatment. Vancomycin-impregnated cement has been used worldwide; however, to date, there is a limited number of studies regarding its use. We evaluated the duration of antimicrobial activity of vancomycin-impregnated cement stored at room temperature after manufacturing. Materials and Methods: The vancomycin-impregnated cement was manufactured by mixing 1 g of vancomycin with 40 g of polymer and adding 17.90 g of liquid monomer. The cement dough was shaped into flat cylinders with diameter and height of 6 mm and 2 mm, respectively. Another cement of the same shape without mixing vancomycin was prepared as the negative control. All manufactured cements were sterilized with ethylene oxide gas and stored at room temperature. Each cement was placed on Mueller Hinton agar plate lawned with standard MRSA strain. Standard vancomycin disk and gentamicin disk were placed together. After 24 hours, the diameter of inhibition zone was measured, and if the diameter was less than 15 mm, vancomycin-impregnated cement was regarded as a loss of antimicrobial activity. The study was repeated every 2 weeks until vancomycin-impregnated cements lost their antimicrobial activity. Results: Vancomycin-impregnated cement stored for a duration of 16 weeks created a 14 mm inhibition zone, while vancomycin disk created a 15 mm inhibition zone. Vancomycin-impregnated cement stored for a duration of 17 weeks created 7 mm and 9 mm inhibition zones, while vancomycin disk created 16 mm and 15 mm inhibition zones, respectively. Conclusion: We found a decrease of antimicrobial activity in vancomycin-impregnated cements after 16 weeks. After 17 weeks, they showed definite loss of antimicrobial activity. Therefore, we recommend not using vancomycin-impregnated cement spacers that has been stored for more than 16 weeks at room temperature.

  • Existing techniques for defragmentation of the file system need intensive disk operation for some periods at specific time such as disk defragmentation program. In this paper, for solving this problem, we design and implement the automatic and continuous defragmentation free system by distributing the disk operation. We propose the Automatic Layout Scoring(ALS) mechanism for measuring defragmentation degree and suggest the Lazy Copy mechanism that copies the defragmented data at idle time for scattering the disk operation. We search the defragmented file by Automatic Layout Scoring mechanism and then find for empty spaces for that searched file. After lazy copy of searched fils to empty space for preventing that file from being lost, the algorithm solves the defragmentation problem by updating the I-node of that file. We implement these algorithms in Linux and evaluate them for small and defragmented file to get the layout scoring. We outperform the Linux EXT2 file system by $2.4%{\sim}10.4%$ in layout scoring evaluation. And the performance of read and write for various file size is better than the EXT2 by $1%{\sim}8.5%$ for write performance and by $1.2%{\sim}7.5%$ for read performance. We suggest this system for solving the problem of defragmentation automatically without disturbing the I/O task and manual management.

  • As the disk in the ODD rotates, disturbances acting on the ODD servo system generally have periodic components. Such disturbances can make the system unstable and make the controller hard to work. The repetitive controller can be the solution of the periodic disturbances by making the periodic control signals. In this paper repetitive controller is proposed that make the control signal follow the periodic disturbances. A low pass filter, which can make the system stable, is proposed by the simple stability conditions. We will show the performance of the repetitive controller in actual commercial system. Simulation and experimental results will be given as the evidences

  • Researches for actuator which is appropriate to slim optical disk drive (ODD) have been progressed for a long time. Various types of actuators are suggested to secure high performances with slim thickness. In this paper, the slim actuator with symmetric electromagnetic (EM) circuit is suggested to apply slim ODD. Various EM circuits are proposed to increase EM force in the focusing and the tracking directions. Flexible mode frequencies and driving sensitivities are increased by using stress distribution and design of experiment (DOE). Consequently, final model is suggested to have high flexible mode frequencies and driving sensitivities.

  • A psoas compartment block has been used to provide anesthesia for orthopedic surgical procedures and analgesia for post-operative pain. Currently, this block is advocated for relieving pain in the lower extremity and pelvic area resulting from various origins. We report a case of a 69-year-old male patient who had gait abnormality with posterior pelvic and hip pain, which were both aggravated by hip extension. From the magnetic resonance image, the patient was found to have a laterally herniated intervertebral disc at the L2/3 level, which compressed the right psoas muscle. This was thought to be the origin of the pain, so a psoas compartment block was performed using 0.25% chirocaine with triamcinolone 5mg, and the pain in both the pelvis and hip were relieved.

  • This paper proposes a new type of HDD suspension integrated with shape memory alloy(SMA) actuator in order to prevent the friction between the slider and the disk. A finite element analysis is undertaken to investigate modal characteristics of the proposed self loading/unloading slider. The dynamic model is formulated and its validity is proved by comparing the predicted displacement transmissibility with the measured one. A control model is then established by integrating experimentally-obtained SMA actuator dynamics. Subsequently, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve non-contact start/stop(Non CSS) modes, and control results are presented in time domain.

  • As a standard of optical disk drive (ODD) was determined to Blu-ray diks (BD), researches for securing slim drive thickness, high data transfer rate and high capacity have been progressed. The actuator for applying BD is also required to have high performances, such as compatibility, slim thickness and 3-axis motion. In this paper, an asymmetric dual lens actuator is proposed to satisfy abovementioned performances. To design the actuator in a limited space, stress analysis and design of experiment (DOE) are performed to reduce weight of moving part and increase driving force and flexible mode frequency. Consequently, the final model, which is satisfied with specifications, is secured.

  • Railway construction in the random vibration natural phenomena, as well as a relatively regular train loads for dynamic loads, such as a usability and safety should be ensured. Vibration due to train loads and seismic vibrations caused by wind compared to the typically very small in size, rather than the safety of the structure affects the usability. Recently in the downtown area, ground and underground facilities, such as a permanent facility that may cause excessive vibration increases, associated with the construction of these transportation facilities on ground vibrations of structures has been increasing concern and complaint. More recently, high-speed train vibration and noise due to furnace is increasing. In order to solve this problem, such as soundproof considering several feet, but by applying the vibration and noise reduction measures insufficient for the study is Free. In this study, track structure, track, and the inside of the building to support the system, the different forms of neurological history and share about the history cheonanahsan high-speed rail, if passed by the bus stop on the train loads of noise, and the history of interior noise and vibration measurement / analysis of measurement results to assess the relative comparison with the relevant provisions were reviewed. Based on this history, future plans for the design of the bridge to reflect the results of a study is intended to provide information. Waiting for the analysis of vibration and noise reduction, cheonanahsan history passed quietly in the train, on average, appeared to 67.53dB and 65.41dB nervous week on average, were measured with the history. Nervous week waiting room of history and the history cheonanahsan radically different shapes and sizes, so a direct comparison is impossible, but the vibration caused by the disc on the base of the polyurethane elastomer disk is not supported by GERB SYSTEM Waiting more effective in reducing the noise level considered in The main materials for railway and for the localization will help to ensure affordability is considered.

  • Data on the Internet are usually represented and transfered as XML. the XML data is represented as a tree and therefore, object repositories are well-suited to store and query them due to their modeling power. XML queries are represented as regular path expressions and evaluated by traversing each object of the tree in object repositories. Several indexes are proposed to fast evaluate regular path expressions. However, in some cases they may not cover all possible paths because they require a great amount of disk space. In order to efficiently evaluate the queries in such cases, we propose an optimized traversing which combines the signature method and block traversing. The signature approach shrink the search space by using the signature information attached to each object, which hints the existence of a certain label in the sub-tree. The block traversing reduces disk I/O by early evaluating the reachable objects in a page. We conducted diverse experiments to show that the hybrid approach achieves a better performance than the other naive ones.
