The main purpose of this study is to identify nursing needs of parents who have hospitalized child. Research design is a descriptive survey. The subjects for the study were 79 parents who have hospitalized child at a pediatric ward of one of the general hospital attached to a university in J city. The data was collected by researchers using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was Likert type 5 point scale, composed of 5 categories with 61 items. The data was analyzed by SPSS/PC. The results of the study were as follows ; 1) Mean score of nursing needs of subjects were 3.93 at 2nd day of admission and 3.99 at 7th day of admission. 2) Among the categories, the highest nursing need at the End day and 7th day of admission was ‘dilect nursing’, in desending order, ‘facilities and environment’, ‘education and counseling’, ‘nursing assessment’. The lowest nursing need was ‘reference’. 3) Differences between the nursing needs of subjects at 2nd day and 7th day were as follows : (1) By categories, there was a significant difference only in the ‘reference’ categoly(t=2.74, P=.008). (2) By items, there were significant differences in items of ‘to check necessary materials(t=2.31, P=.024)’, ‘to understand family function and family relationship(t=2.12, P=.041)’, ‘to set up study room(t=2.22, P=.030)’, and ‘to mediate parent's meeting group(t=3.89, P=.000)’. The above result indicated that nursing needs of parents with hospitalized child were above average, especially very high in items about disease process, and items directly associated with treatment and nursing care. So, nurses have to focus on information about the patient's state of disease, treatment, test and procedure, and in efficiently giving direct nursing care to implement mure effective care for the hospitalized children and their parents. And some future researche is needed to identify the difference of degree of nursing needs of parents with hospitalized child according to admission duration using a different sample and a longer sampling interval.

This study was to investigate the level of nursing needs of parents who have hospitalized child. The subjects for this study were 70 parents who have hospitalized child at pediatric ward in S University Hospital, and the period of data collection was from June 5, 2000 to July 15, 2000. The research instruments used in this study was the Nursing Needs Scale and the cronbach's $\alpha$ of this scale was .92. This instrument had four dimensions : physical nursing needs, therapeutic nursing needs, emotional nursing needs and educational nursing needs. In data analysis, SPSSWIN 10.0 program was used for descriptive statistics. The results were as follows. 1) The range of nursing needs scores was from 104 to 156 and the mean score of the nursing needs was 132.64. 2) The mean score of the therapeutic nursing needs dimension was the most with 3.56 compared to emotional nursing needs(3.25), educational nursing needs(3.25), physical nursing needs(3.14). 3) There was a significant difference in nursing needs of parents according to the level of child's physical function(F=3.39, p<.05). 4) There was a significant correlation between nursing needs and child's physical function(r=-.262, p<.05).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of family stressors, family strains, general family values, family values for hospitalized children and family hardiness on family adaptation based upon McCubbin's family resilience model for families of hospitalized children in China. Methods: A survey using a self-report questionnaire was conducted with 330 hospitalized children's parents. Six instruments were used in this model. The data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 19.0 and AMOS 19.0 program. Results: Family strain had a significant negative direct effect, general family values and family hardiness had a significant positive direct effect, and family values for hospitalized children had a significant positive direct effect and indirect effect on family adaptation of hospitalized children. Conclusion: In this study McCubbin's resilience model and resiliency factors were identified. According to the finding of this study nursing interventions to reduce family stress, enhance family hardiness and consolidate general family values and family values for hospitalized children can help to increase family adaptation in families of hospitalized children. Therefore, the significance of this study is that the results can be used to develop family nursing intervention programs based on family resilience to strengthen family adaptation in families of hospitalized children.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the recognition on center-based child care health programs for parents with ill children. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with convenient sampling method was used and 136 parents were recruited from two university hospital outpatient departments and hospitalized wards, and they completed a structured questionnaire. Results: Majority (57.4%) of parents experienced a leaving work early or being absent from their work due to children's illness. Most dissatisfying factors in child care centers were child health management. Most of parents agreed on the need for a center-based child care health program, and wanted a better management of health care by health professionals in child care centers. Conclusion: These results support that there is a great demand for center-based child care health programs. These special programs are needed for reducing a child rearing burden for working mothers and overcoming the low birthrate in Korea. Health-care programs in child-care settings can help parents meet the health needs of their children while reducing absenteeism from work, thereby contributing to job stability. These results suggest discussions of the related policy with child care centers responsible and national health and educational authorities.

Purpose: This study investigated the relationship of the partnership between nurses and parents of hospitalized children with the quality of pediatric nursing care as perceived by pediatric nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 90 nurses. The data collected were analyzed using the independent t-test and the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The level of partnership between nurses and parents showed significant differences by nurses' age (t=2.22, p=.029) and marital status (t=2.54, p=.013). The quality of pediatric nursing care was found to significantly differ by the nurses' age (t=2.62, p=.013), marital status (t=4.17, p<.001), whether nurses had children (t=2.53, p=.020), pediatric ward work experience (t=2.43, p=.020), and total work experience (t=2.51, p=.016). The level of partnership between nurses and parents was positively correlated with the quality of pediatric nursing care (r=.48, p<.001). Conclusion: To improve the quality of nursing care for hospitalized children and their parents, it is important to consider the specific characteristics of pediatric nurses, whose clinical skills should be improved.
Purpose I investigated how beliefs in punishment have influence on child abuse. Also, I investigated how socio-demographic variables of parents' have influences on child abuse by parents. Sampling was conveniently and total 160 parents replied to the study. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation using SPSSWIN. The results were as follows. Mild child abuse: 'Throwing the object at me(21.1%)', 'Clutching, and pushing (21.0%)', 'Slapping on the cheek (19.1 %), Severe child abuse: 'Kicking, pounding and biting(4.1%)', 'Rod, stick, belt, broom beating using a various objects such as(51.7%)', 'Beating all over the body(6.8%)'. Very severe child abuse: 'Burning with cigarette (0%)', 'Threatening me with a knife, a hammer, a naxe, a gimlet the objects such as(0.7%)', 'Injuring me with the objects such as (0%)', 'Hospitalized by belting(0%)'. Correlations of major variables were as follows. Physical child abuse by elementary student's parents has significantly positive correlation with beliefs in punishment(r= .244 p= .003) and has significantly negative correlation with parent's age(r=-.273, p=.001). But physical child abuse has not significant correlations with family income, education. Conclusion: Beliefs in punishment of parents have influences on child abuse. To prevent child abuse, effective parenting program development is required.

Purpose: Purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting the performance of hand hygiene by parents of hospitalized infants. Methods: The study was conducted with 209 parents of hospitalized infants from one hospital in Changwon. Data were collected from June through August, 2014 and analyzed using SPSS Win 18.0 program. Results: There were positive correlations between performance of hand hygiene and perceptions of sanitary formula bottle (r=.586, p<.001), attitude to hand hygiene (r=.438, p<.001), and knowledge of hand hygiene (r=.405, p<.001) and between parent efficacy and perceptions of sanitary formula bottle (r=.572, p<.001). Awareness of perceptions of sanitary formula bottle (${\beta}$=.308, p<.001), parent efficacy (${\beta}$=.281, p<.001) and hand hygiene attitude (${\beta}$=.207, p<.001) were significant predictors of hand hygiene performance and explained 46.1% of the variance. Conclusion: To increase infection control medical institutions should provide education on hand hygiene and training for parents of hospitalized infants. In order to enhance the performance of hand hygiene, it is necessary to develop and apply nursing programs for hospitalized infants that include hand hygiene attitude, maintenance of the sanitary formula bottle and parent efficacy.
Purpose: Assessment of stress and coping effort of hospitalized children's mother are very important factor to support and recover the children. The purpose of this study was to identify the stress and coping effort in mothers whose children are hospitalized. And analyzes the correlation between mother's stress and coping effort on the hospitalized children. Method: This study surveyed 70 mothers whose children are hospitalized. The data was collected for this study at one university hospital in Daejeon from June 1,2007 to July 10, 2007. The instruments used in this study were the mother's stress scale which was developed by Ok-Nam, You(1998), modified by Ho-Jin, Mun(2001), and the mother's coping effort were measured with the Coping Health Inventory for Parents(CHIP) developed by McCubbin and Patterson(1981). The data was analyzed by using SPSS program and include ANOVA, and Pearson's Correlation. Result: The mother's stress was average 2.42 out of a possible 4 points. Type of coping effort was in order of type III(cope with it by understanding medical circumstances)(M=2.73), type I(Cope with it through positive definition)(M=2.43), type II (cope with it by maintaining psychological stability)(M=2.28). Total coping effort according to general character of mothers whose children are hospitalized showed a significant difference in occupation(P<.05). Correlations between mother's stress and total coping effort was r=-.361(P<.05). Conclusion: This study based on nursing of stress and coping effort of hospitalized children's mothers. Pediatric nurses need to establish a stronger communication board and a relationship between medical staff and children's parents so that have supportive information. And to establish a support program that strengthens the coping effort of hospitalized children's mothers.
Purpose: This study was done to verify the effects of information using photographs on preoperative anxiety of children and their parents. Methods: Participants were 48 hospitalized children and their parents (48 pairs). In the experiment group (18 pairs) photographs were used with the children and parents to provide information before the child underwent an operation. Children and parents in control group (30 pairs) received regular care. Anxiety of children and their parents was measured using both a self-report and physiologic responses (heart rate and blood pressure). The data were analyzed using the SAS program. Results: Compared with the control group, self-reports of the experimental group indicated a significant difference in subjective anxiety. However, there was no decrease in physiologic anxiety as shown by heart rate and blood pressure in those in the experimental group as compared to the control group. Conclusions: Preoperative information using photographs were shown to be an effective method to reduce anxiety of children and their parents.
This study was performed to identify the level of stress recognized by the parents as a support system for their infant patients who were hospitalized in an emergency department, thus to provide the resulting data as the basic material of care intervention for the families of infant patients. This study subjected the parents with infant patients who were hospitalized in emergency department of C University Hospital in Daejeon, and the data was collected from questionnaires for them, dating from Mar. 20, to Jun. 24, 2001 This study used the tool(30 questions) which was originally developed by Ji, Dong-ok (1992) for measuring the stress of families of infant patients in emergency room, and then was modified and complemented by this researcher suitably for infant patients. Collected data was statistically analyzed with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, by using SPSS WIN10.0 program, and the results were as follows: 1. The stress of parents with infant patients hospitalized in emergency department averaged 3.31 on the basis of 5-point measure, which means that they felt stress beyond means. 2. The factor with high average out of stress factors the parents of infant patients recognized included the followings: 'about the pain of infant patients due to examination(3.91±1.00)'; 'about rare opportunity to be in contact with physician(3.78±1.09)'; 'delay in emergent treatment required for infant patients(3.75±1.31)'; 'delay in the general treatment of infant patients(3.72±1.32)'. Factors of the stress level includes the followings: 'care and medical treatment'(3.46±.72); 'body and diseases'(3.41±.97)'; 'lack of information and supportable resources (3.25±.77)'; and so on. 3. For the stress level according to general characteristics, there were statistically significant differences in the result of the condition of infant patients, medical treatment(P<.01), religion, the procedure of treatment(P<.05). With little preceding studies for infant patients hospitalized in emergency department, this study looked through the level of stress recognized by the parents of infant patients. Based on the comprehension on the parents with infant patients and the knowledge on stress factors recognized by the parents, it is expected that we can seek the methods of care intervention such as explanation of care and treatment procedures, unit policies, continuous interest and emotional supports as well as the provision of information to understand the responses of parents and reduce accompanied stresses.
