  • An active Balun is designed for RFID reader at 2.45GHz. The Balun is integrated inside the receiver, then the LNA and mixer can be connected. The unbalanced LNA output signal is transformed to a balanced signal at the input mixer The RF mixer and LO mixer, by using this balun. The Balun provided a balanced signal with two output stage, gain mismatch is 0.116dB. The phase show a good behavior with $163.918^{\circ}$,$-16.609^{\circ}$. The phase mismatch is about $0.527^{\circ}$. The tight difference between the gain and phase on each brancd, is because of the used capacitor and integrated inductor and the other parasitic element inside the balun.

  • In this paper, Operation characteristics of the active clamp(ACL) zero-voltage-switching(ZVS) forward converter(FC) and active clamp hard- switching(HS) forward converter are compared with respect to loss analysis. The losses of semiconductor (including conduction losses and switching losses), transformer(containing the core loss and copper loss) and parasitic element of passive element (capacitor, inductor) are measured and compared for each type. For an experiment we have built 50W ACL ZVS-FC and ACL HS-FC, in which the switching frequency is 200kHz, and test it. The experimental results show that both types of operation have nearly same characteristics.

  • This paper deals with the design criteria and conduction noise reduction of electronic ballast system which is based on half-bridge series inverters. The system is theoretically analyzed in six modes and operating frequency range is selected to obtain the high efficacy and no sound noise. It is proposed the criteria for determining the values of L and C which are the dey points in system design Because of high operating frequency, electromagnetic noise, especially conduction noise, is a serious problem in electronic ballasts. To reduce the conduction noise, the operation and attenuation characteristics of noise filter are analyzed and the method to determine the values of filter elements is proposed. Also, the parasitic components of the inductor and capacitor are taken into consideration in filter analysis. Digital simulations and experiments are carried out to prove the theoretical results. And perfor mances of the system are verified through tests.

  • In this paper, isolation strategies for improving broadband circuit performance and preventing noise arising from circuit component coupling are presented. Equivalent circuit parameters, including parasitic elements, are determined for capacitor and inductor structures. The effects of the relative position of the components with regard to a ground plane are considered in the equivalent circuits. Novel meshed ground structures are investigated to determine a configuration that improves the overall circuit performance.

  • Piezoelectric elements are one of good candidates able to replace motors in various electronics devices. It is slim and compact and low power consumption compare to motors. Linear regulator or class-D amplifier are generally used for piezoelectric element driver, however, suffers from severe power consumption. In this paper, electrical modeling of piezoelectric element will be presented and switching losses on the driver due to the parasitic capacitance will be analyzed. And new ZVS full bridge converter with an inductor will be proposed so as to reduce the power losses.

  • In this paper, we propose the internal mobile antenna for TDMB and KPCS. The proposed antenna is made of different dielectric substrate and it has small size ($45{\times}8{\times}8\;mm$, about 2.8 cc) for mobile device. TDMB antenna is designed spiral structure that makes maximum current for each cell and KPCS antenna is PIFA that is usually used for internal antenna. In order to compensate length of resonance TDMB antenna has a large inductor above 100 nH. In this case, the inductor isolate KPCS signal at TDMB by cutting high frequency. Also the antenna has good isolation because TDMB radiator is parasitic element in KPCS band. We simulated the antenna by using CST microwave studio and measured performance of the antenna in anechoic chamber Proposed antenna has $-6{\sim}-14\;dBi$ gain for TDMB and $-3.5{\sim}-5\;dBi$ gain for KPCS.

  • Generally, in order to implement the CRM(Critical Conduction Mode), the analog controller is used rather than a digital controller because the control is simple and uses less power. However, according to the semiconductor technology development and various user needs, digital control system based on a DSP is on the rise. Therefore, in this paper, the CRM bridgeless PFC converter based on a digital control is proposed. It is necessary to detect the inductor current when it reaches zero and peak value, for calculating the on time and off time by using the current information. However, in this paper, the on-time and off-time are calculated by using the proposed algorithm without any current information. If the switching-times are calculated through the steady-state analysis of the converter, they do not reflect transient status such as starting-up. Therefore, the calculated frequency is out of range, and the transient current is generated. In order to solve these problems, limitation method of the on-time and off-time is used, and the limitation values are varied according to the voltage reference. In addition, in steady state, depending on the switching frequency, the inductance is varied because of the resonance between the inductor and the parasitic capacitance of the switching elements. In order to solve the problem, inductance are measured depending on the switching frequency. The measured inductance are used to calculate the switching time for preventing the transient current. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed method.

  • In this paper, an internal TDMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) antenna for mobile phone is proposed. The overall dimension of designed antenna with substrate is 30 mm$\times$5 mm$\times$0.6 mm. The proposed antenna consists of a meander type radiator which is connected front- and back-plane of Kapton substrate by via hole and parasitic element for tuning the resonant frequency. And to compensate the electric length of desired frequency, passive inductor is used for matching element. Measured gain of the implemented antenna -17.6 dBi at 174 MHz, -13.01 dBi at 195 MHz, and -14.9 dBi at 216 MHz.

  • In this paper, a compact RF Front-end module for Wireless Fidelity(Wi-Fi) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access(WiMAX) applications is realized by low temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC) technology. The RF Front-end module is composed of three LTCC band-pass filters, a Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator(FBAR) filter, fully embedded matching circuits, an SPDT switch for mode selection, an SPDT switch for Tx/Rx selection, and an SP4T switch for band selection. The parasitic elements of 0.2~0.3 pF are generated by the structure of stacking in the top pad pattern for DC block capacitor of SPDT switch for mode selection. These kinds of parasitic elements break the matching characteristic, and thus, the overall electrical performance of the module is degraded. In order to compensate it, we insert a parallel lumped-element inductor on capacitor pad pattern for DC block, so that we obtain the optimized performance of the RF Front-end module. The fabricated RF front-end module has 12 layers including three inner grounds and it occupies less than $6.0mm{\times}6.0mm{\times}0.728mm$.

  • An integrated passive device(IPD) technology by semi-insulating(SI)-GaAs-based fabrication has been developed to meet the ever increasing needs of size and cost reduction in wireless applications. This technology includes reliable NiCr thin film resistor, thick plated Cu/Au metal process to reduce resistive loss, high breakdown voltage metal-insulator-metal(MIM) capacitor due to a thinner dielectric thickness, lowest parasitic effect by multi air-bridged metal layers, air-bridges for inductor underpass and capacitor pick-up, and low chip cost by only 6 process layers. This paper presents the Wilkinson power divider with excellent performance for digital cellular system(DCS). The insertion loss of this power divider is - 0.43 dB and the port isolation greater than - 22 dB over the entire band. Return loss in input and output ports are - 23.4 dB and - 25.4 dB, respectively. The Wilkinson power divider based on SI-GaAs substrates is designed within die size of $1.42\;mm^2$.
