This study was performed to analyse the sensitivity of the Tank model parameters . First of all, the proper values of the parameters which have the least simulation error to the observed data, were estimated. These were used as the standard values which a
The ECO2 building energy simulation program is used on the assessment project for building energy certification of non-dwelling buildings in Korea. In the design of energy efficient buildings, it is beneficial to identify the most important design parameters in oder to more efficiently develop alternative design solutions or reach optimized design solutions. The sensitivity analyses will be used at a reasonable early stage of the building design process, where it is still possible to influence the most important design parameters. In this study, the sensitivity analysis is focused on building envelope parameters such as U-values, SHGC and Wall-window ration.
This study employed the perturbation method, the Edgeworth series, the reliability optimization, the reliability sensitivity technique and the robust design to present a practical and effective approach for the robust reliability design of vehicle components with arbitrary distribution parameters on the condition of known first four moments of original random variables. The theoretical formulae of the robust reliability design for vehicle components with arbitrary distribution parameters are obtained. The reliability sensitivity is added to the reliability optimization design model and the robust reliability design is described as a multi-objection optimization. On the condition of known first four moments of original random variables, the respective program can be used to obtain the robust reliability design parameters of vehicle components with arbitrary distribution parameters accurately and quickly.
The QUAL2K has the same basic characteristics as the QUAL2E model, which has been widely used in stream water quality modeling; in QUAL2K, however, various functions are supplemented. The QUAL2Kw model uses a genetic algorithm(GA) for automatic calibration of QUAL2K, and it can search for optimum water quality parameters efficiently using the calculation results of the model. The QUAL2Kw model was applied to the Gangneung Namdaecheon River on the east side of the Korean Peninsula. Because of the effluents from the urban area, the middle and lower parts of the river are more polluted than the upper parts. Moreover, the hydraulic characteristics differ between the lower and upper parts of rivers. Thus, the river reaches were divided into seven parts, auto-calibration for the multiple reaches was performed using the function of the user-defined automatic calibration of the rates worksheets. Because GA parameters affect the optimal solution of the model, the impact of the GA parameters used in QUAL2Kw on the fitness of the model was analyzed. Sensitivity analysis of various factors, such as population size, crossover probability, crossover mode, strategy for mutation and elitism, mutation rate, and reproduction plan, were performed. Using the results of this sensitivity analysis, the optimum GA parameters were selected to achieve the best fitness value.
The code WIMS-AECL has been used for the lattice analysis of DUPIC fuel. The lattice parameters calculated by the code is sensitive to the choice of number of parameters, such as the number of tracking lines, number of condensed groups, mesh spacing in the moderator region, other parameters vital to the calculation of probabilities and burnup analysis. We have studied this sensitivity with respect to these parameters and recommend their proper values which are necessary for carrying out the lattice analysis of DUPIC fuel.
In the decommissioning of nuclear facilities, Derived Concentration Guideline Level (DCGL) derivation is necessary for the release of the facility after the site remediation, which also needs to be implemented in the stage of establishing a decommissioning planning. In order to derive DCGL, the dose assessment for the receptors can be conducted from residual radioactivity by using RESRAD code. When performing sensitivity analysis on probabilistic parameters, secondary evaluation is performed by assigning a single value for parameters classified as sensitive. However, several options may arise in the handling of nonsensitive parameters. Therefore, we compared the results of the first execution of RESRAD applying probabilistic parameters for each scenario with the results of the second execution applying a single value to sensitive parameters among the probabilistic parameters. In addition, we analyzed the effect of setting options for non-sensitive parameters. As a result, the effect on DCGL were different depending on the application scenario, the target radionuclides, and the input parameter selections. In terms of the overall evaluation period, the DCGL graph of the default option was generally shown as the most conservative except for some radionuclides. However, it will not necessarily be given priority in the aspect of the need to reflect site characteristics. The reason for selecting a probabilistic parameter is the availability of the parameter and the uncertainty of applying a single value. Therefore, as an alternative, it can be consistently applied to distribution as an option for non-sensitive parameters after sensitivity analysis.
Large-scale reactor simulation often requires the use of Monte Carlo calculation techniques to estimate important reactor parameters. One drawback of these Monte Carlo calculation techniques is they inevitably result in some uncertainty in calculated quantities. The present study includes parametric uncertainty quantification (UQ) and sensitivity analysis (SA) on the Advanced Test Reactor Critical (ATRC) facility housed at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and addresses some complications due to Monte Carlo uncertainty when performing these analyses. This approach for UQ/SA includes consideration of Monte Carlo code uncertainty in computed sensitivities, consideration of uncertainty from directly measured parameters and a comparison of results obtained from brute-force Monte Carlo UQ versus UQ obtained from a surrogate model. These methodologies are applied to the uncertainty and sensitivity of keff for two sets of uncertain parameters involving fuel plate geometry and fuel plate composition. Results indicate that the less computationally-expensive method for uncertainty quantification involving a linear surrogate model provides accurate estimations for keff uncertainty and the Monte Carlo uncertainty in calculated keff values can have a large effect on computed linear model parameters for parameters with low influence on keff.
The phenomenon identification and ranking table (PIRT) is an important basis in the nuclear power plant (NPP) thermal-hydraulic analysis. This study focuses on the importance ranking of the input parameters when lacking the PIRT, and the target scenario is the small break loss of coolant accident (SBLOCA) in a pressurized water reactor (PWR) CPR1000. A total of 54 input parameters which might have influence on the figure of merit (FOM) were identified, and the sensitivity measure of each input on the FOM was calculated through an optimized moment-independent global sensitivity analysis method. The importance ranking orders of the parameters were transformed into the Savage scores, and the parameters were categorized based on the Savage scores. A parameter importance ranking table for the SBLOCA scenario of the CPR1000 reactor was obtained, and the influences of some important parameters at different break sizes and different accident stages were analyzed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of scintillator and collimator parameters that tradeoff between system sensitivity and spatial resolution. The parameters simulated using Monte Carlo program were scintillator thickness, colimator hole shape, septal thickness, and hole length. The results show that the sensitivity increases exponentially upto about 1 cm of scintillator thickness as the thickness increases. However the sensitivity is almost constant when the scintiallator is thicker than about 1 cm. The simulation of collimator hole shape shows that the hexagonal hole gives the best spatial resolution for the same system sensitivity. The system statical resolution is improved, as both collimator septal thickness and hole length increase, however that system sensitivity is rapidly decreased. In conclusion, The optimization of scintillator and collimator parameters using monte carlo simulation may be useful to develop a high-resolution miniature gamma probe.
A numerical study of premixed combustion within a porous ceramic burner (PCB) is performed to understand flame behavior with respect to various model parameters. Basic flame structure within the porous ceramic burner and species profiles such as NO and CO are examined. Sensitivity analysis of flame speed, gas and solid temperature, NO and CO emission from the burner with respect to reaction steps and various physical properties of the ceramic material is applied to find the most significant parameters in selection of porous materials for the porous ceramic burner. Effects of thermal conductivity, extinction coefficient and scattering albedo on the burner characteristics are studied through the sensitivity analysis. The results of sensitivity study reveal the order of importance in ceramic material properties to get suitable burner performance. Scattering albedo, which governs the ratio of absorbed energy by the ceramic material to total radiative energy transferred, is one of the most important parameters in the material properties since it affects the actual absorbed radiation rate and thus it largely affects the flame structure. Through the study, it is found that the sensitivity study can be used to estimate the flame behavior within the porous ceramic burner more effectively.
