  • A new approach to reduce the computation time of genetic algorithm (GA) for making binary phase holograms is described. Synthesized holograms having diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are proven in computer simulation and experimentally demonstrated. Recently, computer-generated holograms (CGHs) having high diffraction efficiency and flexibility of design have been widely developed in many applications such as optical information processing, optical computing, optical interconnection, etc. Among proposed optimization methods, GA has become popular due to its capability of reaching nearly global. However, there exits a drawback to consider when we use the genetic algorithm. It is the large amount of computation time to construct desired holograms. One of the major reasons that the GA' s operation may be time intensive results from the expense of computing the cost function that must Fourier transform the parameters encoded on the hologram into the fitness value. In trying to remedy this drawback, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been put forward, allowing CGHs to be created easily and quickly (1), but the quality of reconstructed images is not high enough to use in applications of high preciseness. For that, we are in attempt to find a new approach of combiningthe good properties and performance of both the GA and ANN to make CGHs of high diffraction efficiency in a short time. The optimization of CGH using the genetic algorithm is merely a process of iteration, including selection, crossover, and mutation operators [2]. It is worth noting that the evaluation of the cost function with the aim of selecting better holograms plays an important role in the implementation of the GA. However, this evaluation process wastes much time for Fourier transforming the encoded parameters on the hologram into the value to be solved. Depending on the speed of computer, this process can even last up to ten minutes. It will be more effective if instead of merely generating random holograms in the initial process, a set of approximately desired holograms is employed. By doing so, the initial population will contain less trial holograms equivalent to the reduction of the computation time of GA's. Accordingly, a hybrid algorithm that utilizes a trained neural network to initiate the GA's procedure is proposed. Consequently, the initial population contains less random holograms and is compensated by approximately desired holograms. Figure 1 is the flowchart of the hybrid algorithm in comparison with the classical GA. The procedure of synthesizing a hologram on computer is divided into two steps. First the simulation of holograms based on ANN method [1] to acquire approximately desired holograms is carried. With a teaching data set of 9 characters obtained from the classical GA, the number of layer is 3, the number of hidden node is 100, learning rate is 0.3, and momentum is 0.5, the artificial neural network trained enables us to attain the approximately desired holograms, which are fairly good agreement with what we suggested in the theory. The second step, effect of several parameters on the operation of the hybrid algorithm is investigated. In principle, the operation of the hybrid algorithm and GA are the same except the modification of the initial step. Hence, the verified results in Ref [2] of the parameters such as the probability of crossover and mutation, the tournament size, and the crossover block size are remained unchanged, beside of the reduced population size. The reconstructed image of 76.4% diffraction efficiency and 5.4% uniformity is achieved when the population size is 30, the iteration number is 2000, the probability of crossover is 0.75, and the probability of mutation is 0.001. A comparison between the hybrid algorithm and GA in term of diffraction efficiency and computation time is also evaluated as shown in Fig. 2. With a 66.7% reduction in computation time and a 2% increase in diffraction efficiency compared to the GA method, the hybrid algorithm demonstrates its efficient performance. In the optical experiment, the phase holograms were displayed on a programmable phase modulator (model XGA). Figures 3 are pictures of diffracted patterns of the letter "0" from the holograms generated using the hybrid algorithm. Diffraction efficiency of 75.8% and uniformity of 5.8% are measured. We see that the simulation and experiment results are fairly good agreement with each other. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm and Neural Network have been successfully combined in designing CGHs. This method gives a significant reduction in computation time compared to the GA method while still allowing holograms of high diffraction efficiency and uniformity to be achieved. • In this research, we introduce a new process for the consolidation of different types of powders such as metal and ceramic powders by using a magnetic pulsed compaction (MPC). The successful consolidation of many kinds of powers including nanopowder by MPC has been presented. A wide range of experimental studies were carried out for characterizing mechanical properties and microstructure of the MPCed materials. It was found that effective properties of high strength and full density maintaining nanoscal microstructure were achieved. finally, optimization of the compaction parameters and sintering conditions could lead to the good consolidation of powders (metal, ceramic, nano-powder) with higher density, and even further enhanced mechanical properties.

  • Networked control systems(NCSs) have gained increasing attention in recent years due to their advantages and potential applications. The network Quality-of-Service(QoS) in NCSs always fluctuates due to changes of the traffic load and available network resources. To handle the network QoS variations problem, this paper presents an intelligent scheduling control method for NCSs, where the sampling period and the control parameters are simultaneously scheduled to compensate the effect of QoS variation on NCSs performance. For NCSs with network-induced delays and packet dropouts, a discrete-time switch model is proposed. By defining a sampling-period-dependent Lyapunov function and a common quadratic Lyapunov function, the stability conditions are derived for NCSs in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Based on the obtained stability conditions, the corresponding controller design problem is solved and the performance optimization problem is also investigated. Simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

  • The aim of this paper is further studies to achieve deeper understanding in this field. First investigate the influence of operating conditions and design parameters on the hydrodynamics and the mass transfer properties of a loop reactor. This paper provides a literature review on the ejectors applications in the mixing system. A number of studies are grouped and discussed in several topics such as the background, theory of ejector, mixing characteristics, optimization of the system. Since the high efficiencies reactor using ejector widely used in gas-liquid system, especially in a number of chemical and biochemical processes. This is due to their high efficiency in gas dispersion resulting in high mass transfer rate and low power requirements. Thus ejector has been applied to the mixing system. An investigation on hydrodynamics and mass transfer characteristics of gas-liquid ejector has been carried out using three-dimensional CFD modeling.

  • The automobile seat must satisfy various safety regulations for the passenger's safety. In many design practices, each component is independently designed by concentrating on a single related regulation. However, since multiple regulations can be involved in a seat component, there may be design confliction among the various safety regulations. Therefore, a new design methodology is required to effectively design an automobile seat. The axiomatic approach is employed for considering multiple regulations. The Independence Axiom is used to define the overall flow of the seat design. Functional requirements (FRs) are defined by safety regulations and components of the seat are classified into groups which yield design Parameters (DPs). The classification is carried out to have independence in the FR-DP relationship. Components in a DP group are determined by using orthogonal away of the design of experiments (DOE). Numerical analyses are utilized to evaluate the safety levels by using a commercial software system for nonlinear transient finite element analysis.

  • In most container terminals, containers are piled up and stored in a yard in order to utilize the space efficiently. Hence, it requires unproductive container-handling operations to retrieve a container that is not placed on the top of a container stack. As a result, to streamline container-loading operations by which containers are transferred from a yard to a vessel, it is necessary to pre-marshal (i.e., shuffle in advance) containers in accordance with container-loading plan. We propose $A^*$ algorithm to find the optimal container-relocation sequence for the intra-bay container pre-marshalling problem. To work out the heuristic estimate for the proposed $A^*$ algorithm, we introduce the container rearrangement problem and obtain the lower bound of the length of the optimal relocation sequence. The performance of the algorithm is validated extensively by the numerical experiments on the problem instances that are given in the previous studies and generated randomly with various parameters.

  • This paper presents the optimal permanent magnet shape on the rotor of an interior permanent magnet motor to reduce the core losses and improve the performance. As permanent magnet has conductivity inherently, it causes huge amount of eddy current losses by the slot harmonics with concentrated winding. This loss is roughly 100 times larger than that of distributed winding in high speed operation and it cannot be ignored, especially on traction motors. Each eddy current loss on permanent magnet has been investigated in detail by using FEM(Finite Element Method) instead of EMCNM(Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method) in order to consider saturation and non-linear magnetic property. Simulation-based DOE(Design Of Experiment) is also applied to avoid large number of analyses according to each design parameter and consider expected interactions among parameters. Consequently, the optimal design to reduce the core loss on the permanent magnet while maintaining or improving motor performance is proposed by an optimization algorithm using regression equation derived and lastly, the core loss reduction on the proposed shape of the permanent magnet is verified by FEM.

  • In this study, for the tube-to-tube friction welding of hose nipple materials, the main parameters of friction welding were investigated using tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond area (HAZ), and observations of the microstructure to increase the quality of friction welding based on visual examination. As-welded and post weld heat treated (PWHT) specimens were tested. The optimal welding conditions were found to be n = 1000 rpm, HP = 10 MPa, UP = 15 MPa, HT = 9 s, and UT = 5 s when the metal loss (Mo) was 7.5 mm. Furthermore, the peak of the hardness distribution of the friction welded joints could be eliminated by PWHT. Moreover, the two materials of the friction weld were thoroughly mixed with a well-combined structure of micro-particles, without any molten material, particle growth, or defects.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate of the Tank model in simulating runoff discharge from rural watershed in comparison to the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model. The model parameters of SWAT was calibrated by the shuffled complex evolution-university Arizona (SCE-UA) method while Tank model was calibrated by genetic algorithm (GA) and validated. Four dam watersheds were selected as the study areas. Hydrological data of the Water Management Information System (WAMIS) and geological data were used as an input data for the model simulation. Runoff data were used for the model calibration and validation. The determination coefficient ($R^2$), root mean square error (RMSE), Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency index (NSE) were used to evaluate the model performances. The result indicated that both SWAT model and Tank model simulated runoff reasonably during calibration and validation period. For annual runoff, the Tank model tended to overestimate, especially for small runoff (< 0.2 mm) whereas SWAT model underestimate runoff as compared to observed data. The statistics indicated that the Tank model simulated runoff more accurately than the SWAT model. Therefore the Tank model could be a good tool for runoff simulation considering its ease of use.

  • The fullerene solar cells are becoming a feasible choice due to the advanced developments in donor materials and improved fabrication techniques of devices. Recently, sufficient optimization and improvements in the processing techniques like incorporation of solvent vapor annealing (SVA) with additives in solvents has become a major cause of prominent improvements in the performance of organic solar cell-based devices . On the other hand, the challenge of reduced open circuit voltage (Voc) remains. This study presents an approach for significant performance improvement of overall device based on organic small molecular solar cells (SMSCs) by following a two step technique that comprises thermal annealing (TA) and SVA (abbreviated as SVA+TA). In case of exclusive use of SVA, reduction in Voc can be eliminated in an effective way. The characteristics of charge carriers can be determined by the measurement of transient photo-voltage (TPV) and transient photo-current (TPC) that determines the scope for improvement in the performance of device by two step annealing. The recovery of reduced Voc is linked with the necessary change in the dynamics of charge that lead to increased overall performance of device. Moreover, SVA and TA complement each other; therefore, two step annealing technique is an appropriate way to simultaneously improve the parameters such as Voc, fill factor (FF), short circuit current density (Jsc) and PCE of small molecular solar cells.
