TDoA (Time Difference-of Arrival) or DoA (Direction-of-Arrival) can be used for source localization. However, the localizing performance is dependent on relative position between source and receivers, receivers' geometric structure, sound speed, and so on. In this paper we propose a source localization method with enhanced performance that combines multiple information. The proposed method uses the time TDoA, DoA and sound speed as variables. LM (Levenberg-Marquardt) method which is one of nonlinear optimizations is applied. The performances of the proposed method was evaluated by simulation. As result of simulation, the proposed method has the lower average localizing error performance than the previous method.

This paper reports the development of a theoretically rigorous method for permanent way engineers to assess the condition of railway ballast under a concrete sleeper with the potential to be extended to a smart system for long-term health monitoring of railway ballast. Owing to the uncertainties induced by the problems of modeling error and measurement noise, the Bayesian approach was followed in the development. After the selection of the most plausible model class for describing the damage status of the rail-sleeper-ballast system, Bayesian model updating is adopted to calculate the posterior PDF of the ballast stiffness at various regions under the sleeper. An obvious drop in ballast stiffness at a region under the sleeper is an evidence of ballast damage. In model updating, the model that can minimize the discrepancy between the measured and model-predicted modal parameters can be considered as the most probable model for calculating the posterior PDF under the Bayesian framework. To address the problems of non-uniqueness and local minima in the model updating process, a two-stage hybrid optimization method was developed. The modified evolutionary algorithm was developed in the first stage to identify the important regions in the parameter space and resulting in a set of initial trials for deterministic optimization to locate all most probable models in the second stage. The proposed methodology was numerically and experimentally verified. Using the identified model, a series of comprehensive numerical case studies was carried out to investigate the effects of data quantity and quality on the results of ballast damage detection. Difficulties to be overcome before the proposed method can be extended to a long-term ballast monitoring system are discussed in the conclusion.

Nowadays, the utilization of multiprocessor environments has been increased due to the increase in time complexity of application programs and decrease in hardware costs. In such architectures during the compilation step, each program is decomposed into the smaller and maybe dependent segments so-called tasks. Precedence constraints, required execution times of the tasks, and communication costs among them are modeled using a directed acyclic graph (DAG) named task-graph. All the tasks in the task-graph must be assigned to a predefined number of processors in such a way that the precedence constraints are preserved, and the program's completion time is minimized, and this is an NP-hard problem from the time-complexity point of view. The results obtained by different approaches are dominated by two major factors; first, which order of tasks should be selected (sequence subproblem), and second, how the selected sequence should be assigned to the processors (assigning subproblem). In this paper, a hybrid proposed approach has been presented, in which two different artificial ant colonies cooperate to solve the multiprocessor task-scheduling problem; one colony to tackle the sequence subproblem, and another to cope with assigning subproblem. The utilization of background knowledge about the problem (different priority measurements of the tasks) has made the proposed approach very robust and efficient. 125 different task-graphs with various shape parameters such as size, communication-to-computation ratio and parallelism have been utilized for a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed approach, and the results show its superiority versus the other conventional methods from the performance point of view.
This study was conducted to optimize the medium composition for carotenoid production in Arthrobacter sp. PAMC 25486 through response surface methodology (RSM). Using a Placket-Burman design, from which yeast extract, $MgSO_4$ and dextrose were identified as the significant factors affecting carotenoids production. RSM studies for carotenoids production by Arthrobacter sp. PAMC 25486 have been carried out for three parameters of yeast extract, $MgSO_4$ and dextrose concentrations. These significant factors were optimized by experiments and RSM, as 1 g/L yeast extract, 0.0879 g/L $MgSO_4$ and 1 g/L dextrose. The experimentally obtained concentration of carotenoid was 288 mg/L, and it became 2-fold increase on concentration before optimization.
Black liquor (BL) is a by-product of rice straw pulping process. It is a low costs raw material for production value-adding proteins and enzymes, which has been paid more and more attention to reduce its environmental pollution. Mixed cultures of micelial fungi, Trichoderma reesei Northern Regional Research Laboratory (NRRL)11236, Trichoderma reesei NRRL 6165 and Aspergillus niger strains NRC 5A, NRC 7A, and NRC 9A were evaluated for their ability to produce xylanase using crude hemicellulose (CHC) prepared from BL and peat moss as an inert support under solid state fermentation (SSF). The most potent strains, A. niger NRC 9A (818.26 U/g CHC) and T. reesei NRRL 6165 ($100.9{\pm}57.14$ U/g CHC), were used in a mixed culture to enhance xylanase production by co-culturing under SSF. In the mixed culture, xylanase production ($1070.52{\pm}12.57$ U/g CHC) was nearly1.3 and 10.6-fold increases over the activities attained in their monocultures, A. niger NRC 9A and T. reesei NRRL 6165, respectively. Optimization of the culture parameters of the mixed culture SSF process, concentration of ammonium sulfate and corn steep liquor, CHC/peat moss ratio, inoculum size and ratios of the two strains, initial pH value, initial moisture content and incubation time, exhibited a significant increase ($2414.98{\pm}84.02$ U/g CHC) in xylanase production than before optimization.

To reject the Doppler frequency spectrum dispersion of clutter caused by high-speed antenna rotation of MTI radar system due to terrain characteristics, signal processing parameters(MTI filter constant, M/N detector ration, K-factor and offset of CFAR) are adjusted for the optimal elimination of the ground clutter. For this investigation, logging equipment is designed and utilized for the collection of classified ground clutter data. Test case is devised through Matlab simulation for the classified analysis and optimization of clutter rejection. Then indoor radar test and outside test in accordance with terrain characteristics are repeatedly performed for the verification of the test. This whole process is through the evolutional development model and repeated for the optimization. Final result is that ground-clutter rejection capability is 5.6 times(7.5 dB) better than that of existing radar system.

To improve the accuracy and realism of the virtual surgical simulation system, this paper proposes an optimized mass-spring model with shape restoration ability based on volume conservation to simulate soft tissue deformation. The proposed method constructs a soft tissue surface model that adopts a new flexion spring for resisting bending and incorporates it into the mass-spring model (MSM) to restore the original shape. Then, we employ the particle swarm optimization algorithm to achieve the optimal solution of the model parameters. Besides, the volume conservation constraint is applied to the position-based dynamics (PBD) approach to maintain the volume of the deformable object for constructing the soft tissue volumetric model base on tetrahedrons. Finally, we built a simulation system on the PHANTOM OMNI force tactile interaction device to realize the deformation simulation of the virtual liver. Experimental results show that the proposed model has a good shape restoration ability and incompressibility, which can enhance the deformation accuracy and interactive realism.
A fitting process carried out in the automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that applies heat in the outer diameter of a gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and assembles the gear and the shaft made larger than the inner radius of the gear. Its stress depends on the yield strength of a gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of a shaft at room temperature by a press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of a shaft. A warm shrink fitting process for an automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by the process produced dimensional change in both outer diameter and profile of the gear so that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of a warm shrink fitting process in which design parameters such as contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of a shaft and inner diameter of a gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear are involved. In this study, an closed form equation to predict the contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop an optimization technique of a warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field have a good agreement with the results obtained from theoretical and finite element analysis and also the expanded amounts of the outer diameters of the gears have a good agreement with the results.

This paper aims to develop a SI(structural identification) technique using the kinetic energy optimization technique(KEOT) and the direct matrix updating method(DMUM) to decide on optimal location of sensors and to update FE model respectively, which ultimately contributes to a composition of more effective SHM. Owing to the characteristic structural flexing behavior of cable bridges, which makes them vulnerable to any vibration, systematic and continuous structural health monitoring (SHM) is pivotal for them. Since it is necessary to select optimal measurement locations with the fewest possible measurements and also to accurately assess the structural state of a bridge for the development of an effective SHM, a SI technique is as much important to accurately determine the modal parameters of the current structure based on the data optimally obtained. In this study, the KEOT was utilized to determine the optimal measurement locations, while the DMUM was utilized for FE model updating. As a result of experiment, the required number of measurement locations derived from KEOT based on the target mode was reduced by approximately 80 % compared to the initial number of measurement locations. Moreover, compared to the eigenvalue of the modal experiment, an improved FE model with a margin of error of less than 1 % was derived from DMUM. Finally, the SI technique for long-span bridges proposed in this study, which utilizes both KEOT and DMUM, is proven effective in minimizing the number of sensors while accurately determining the structural dynamic characteristics.

Optimization of a 30 cm lightweight mirror was proposed with the best optical performance under various loads of gravity and thermal loads with proper boundary conditions. A pattern for a lightweight mirror was generated based on the best optical performance combined with ease of manufacturing for proper design parameters of physical properties of face sheet, back sheet, rib, and web. Evaluation of the optical performances of a telescope mirror was obtained by using the finite element analysis program, NX I-DEAS. Surface errors, individual aberration terms, such as piston, tilts, focus and other aberrations were calculated by using Zernike polynomials. The proposed telescope mirror meets well the opto-mechanical design consideration of RMS surface error less than 16 nm.
