  • A number of techniques have been developed for estimation of speed or position in motor drives. The accuracy of these techniques is affected by the variation of motor parameters such as the stator resistance, stator inductance or torque constant. This paper is proposed a neural network based estimator for torque and stator resistance and adaptive fuzzy learning contrroller(AFLC) for speed control in IPMSM Drives. AFLC is chaged fuzzy rule base by rule base modifier for robust control of IPMSM. The neural weights are initially chosen randomly and a model reference algorithm adjusts those weights to give the optimum estimations. The neural network estimator is able to track the varying parameters quite accurately at different speeds with consistent performance. The neural network parameter estimator has been applied to slot and flux linkage torque ripple minimization of the IPMSM. The validity of the proposed parameter estimator and AFLC is confirmed by comparing to conventional algorithm.

  • We consider the MLE (maximum likelihood estimate) and Bayesian estimates of three-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution based on the progressive type II censoring with binomial removal. Jung, Chung (2018) proposed the three-parameter bathtub-shaped distribution which is the extension of the two-parameter bathtub-shaped distribution given by Zhang (2004). Jung, Chung (2018) investigated its properties and estimations. The maximum likelihood estimates are computed using Newton-Raphson algorithm. Also, Bayesian estimates are obtained under the balanced loss function using MCMC (Markov chain Monte Carlo) method. In particular, BSEL (balanced squared error loss) function is considered as a special form of balanced loss function given by Zellner (1994). For comparing theirs MLEs with the corresponding Bayes estimates, some simulations are performed. It shows that Bayes estimates is better than MLEs in terms of risks. Finally, concluding remarks are mentioned.

  • This paper provides validations of the reference stress based J and $C^*$ estimations, proposed in Part I, for inner, circumferential surface cracked pipes under internal pressure and global bending against detailed 3-D elastic-plastic and elastic-creep FE results. For this purpose, actual tensile properties of two typical stainless steels (TP304 and TP316) are used for elastic-plastic FE analyses and two realistic creep laws are used for elastic-creep FE analyses. For a total of twenty cases considered in this paper, agreements between the proposed reference stress based J and $C^*$ estimations and the FE results are excellent. More important aspect of the proposed estimations is that they can be used to estimate J and $C^*$ not only at the deepest point of the surface crack but also at an arbitrary point along the crack front.

  • Recently, sensorless controls, which eliminate position and speed sensor in a permanent magnet synchronous motor drive, have been much studied. Most sensorless control algorithms are based on the back-EMF and speed estimations which are obtained from the voltage equations. Therefore, the sensorless control performance is largely affected by the parameter errors of a motor. This paper investigates a novel adaptive control with the parameter error compensation for the speed sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed parameter estimation is obtained from the d-axis current error between the real and estimated currents. The proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experimentation.

  • In this paper the robust vector control method of induction motor for the purpose of improving the system performance deterioration caused by parameter variations is proposed. The estimations of the stator current and the rotor flux are obtained by the full order state observer with corrective prediction error feedback. and the adaptive scheme is constructed to estimate the rotor speed with the error signal between real and estimation value of the stator current. Adaptive sliding observer based on the variable structure control is applied to parameter identification. Consequently predictive current control and speed sensorless vector control can be obtained simultaneously regardless of the parameter variations.

  • This paper presents a DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) based estimation algorithm for the parameters of a low-frequency oscillating signal. The proposed method estimates the parameters, i.e., the frequency, the damping factor, the mode amplitude, and the phase, by fitting a discrete Fourier spectrum with an exponentially damped cosine function. Parameter estimation algorithms that consider the spectrum leakage of the discrete Fourier spectrum are introduced. The multi-domain mode test functions are tested in order to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed algorithms are highly applicable to the practical computation of low-frequency parameter estimations based on DFTs.

  • In this study, recently developed unscented Kalman filter (UKF) technique is studied for identification of nonlinear structural dynamic systems as an alternative to the extended Kalman filter (EKF). The EKF, which was originally developed as a state estimator for nonlinear systems, has been frequently employed for parameter identification by introducing the state vector augmented with the unknown parameters to be identified. However, the EKF has several drawbacks such as biased estimations and erroneous estimations especially for highly nonlinear dynamic systems due to its crude linearization scheme. To overcome the weak points of the EKF, the UKF was recently developed as a state estimator. Numerical simulation studies have been carried out on nonlinear SDOF system and nonlinear MDOF system. The results from a series of numerical simulations indicate that the UKF is superior to the EKF in the system identification of nonlinear dynamic systems especially highly nonlinear systems.

  • Based on the generalized Gaussian pdf of DCT coefficients of images, Hernandez et al. propose the ML test applied watermark decoder. For images with watermarks shaped by the visibility thresholds of DCT coefficients and the luminance masking of human visual system, they conclude that the ML test with an appropriately chosen parameter associated with the pdf of DCT coefficients outperforms the correlation based decoder. In this paper, the parameter is estimated using various methods including a novel one for watermarks shaped by the visibility thresholds of DCT coefficients and the luminance masking as Hernandez et al. did and with the contrast masking added, and its effect on performance is compared.
