  • We report a new excimer laser annealing method which successfully results in a single grain boundary formation in the channel of polycrystalline silicon thin film transistor. The proposed method is based on lateral grain growth and employs aluminum patterns which act as selective beam mask and lateral heat sink. The maximum grain size obtained by the proposed method is about 1.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in the length. The grainboundaries should be arranged parallel with the direction of current flow for the best device performance, so we propose a new device fabrication method and a new poly-Si TFT structure. Poly-Si TFT fabricated by the proposed method exhibits considerably improved electrical characteristics, such as high field effect mobility exceeding 240 $cm^2$/Vsec.

  • Flame propagation characteristics of propane-air mixtures were experimentally investigated in constant-volume combustion chambers. Flame propagation process was observed as a function of mixture strength, initial mixture temperature and initial mixture pressure in quiescent mixtures. A cylindrical combustion chamber and a spherical combustion chamber contain a pair of parallel windows through which optical access into the chamber can be provided. Laser two beam deflection method was adopted to measure the local flame propagation, which gave information on the flame size and flame propagation speed. Pressure development was also measured by a piezoelectric pressure transducer to characterize combustion in quiescent mixtures. Burning velocity was calculated from flame propagation and pressure measurements. The effect of flow on flame propagation was also investigated under flowing mixture conditions. Laser two beam method was found to be feasible in measuring flame propagation of quiescent mixtures. Flame was observed to propagate faster with higher initial mixture temperature and lower initial pressure. Combustion duration was shortened in the highly turbulent flowing mixtures.

  • The target of this paper is to study on the usefulness of the SSHI technique as a wireless electrical power supply when it is driven by mechanical vibrations of low frequency. A THUNDER series a piezoelectric material (TH7-R), which has been developed by a NASA engineer is selected for this study. A mechanical motion vibrator supplies piezoelectric material with mechanical energy. An optical fiber sensor and a pulse generating circuit are used to accomplish the parallel-SSHI technique. As a result of this study, energy harvesting using SSHI technique results in a significant increase of the electrical power flow.

  • We present a novel approach for the simulation of color pencil effects using line integral convolution (LIC) to produce pencil drawings from images. Our key idea is to use a bilateral convolution filter to simulate the various effects of pencil strokes. Our filter resolves the drawbacks of the existing convolution-based schemes, and presents an intuitive control to mimic the properties of pencil strokes. We also present a scheme that determines stroke directions from the shapes to be drawn. Smooth tangent flows are used for the pixels close to feature lines, and partially parallel flows inside regions. The background is rendered using a flow of fixed direction. Using different styles of stroke directions increases the realism of the resulting images. This approach produces convincing pencil drawing effects from photographs.

  • The synthetic rock mass (SRM) were used to investigate the influence of specimen size on the mechanical properties of jointed rock mass. The SRM were established based on parallel bond model (PBM) and smooth joint model (SJM) and the scaled rock specimens were sampled in two SRMs considering three sampling locations. The research results show that the smaller the initial fracture density is, the greater the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), elastic modulus (E) is when compared with the same sampling location. The mechanical properties of rock specimens obtained by different sampling methods in different SRMs have different scale effects. The strength of rock specimens with more new cracks is not necessarily less than that of rock specimens with fewer new cracks and the failure of rock is caused by the formation of macro-fracture surface.

  • Aerodynamic pressures and forces were measured on a model of a solar panel containing six slender, parallel modules. Of particular importance to system design is the aerodynamically induced torque. The peak system torque was generally observed to occur at approach wind angles near the diagonals of the panel ($45^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$, $225^{\circ}$ and $315^{\circ}$) although large loads also occurred at $270^{\circ}$, where wind is in the plane of the panel, perpendicular to the individual modules. In this case, there was strong vortex shedding from the in-line modules, due to the observation that the module spacing was near the critical value for wake buffeting. The largest loads, however, occurred at a wind angle where there was limited vortex shedding ($330^{\circ}$). In this case, the bulk of the fluctuating torque came from turbulent velocity fluctuations, which acted in a quasi-steady sense, in the oncoming flow. A simple, quasi-steady, model for determining the peak system torque coefficient was developed.

  • Wind tunnel pressure tests were conducted on a 1:100 scale model of a large industrial building with solar panels mounted parallel to the flat roof. The model form was chosen to have the same aspect ratio as the Texas Tech University test building. Pressures were simultaneously measured on the roof, and on the topside and underside of the solar panel, the latter two combining to produce a nett panel pressure. For the configurations tested, varying both the lateral spacing between the panels and the height of the panels above the roof surface had little influence on the measured pressures, except at the leading edge. The orientation of the panels with respect to the wind flow and the proximity of the panels to the leading edge had a greater effect on the measured pressure distributions. The pressure coefficients are compared against the results for the roof with no panels attached. The model results with no panels attached agreed well with full-scale results from the Texas Tech test building.

  • In this study, newly-developed slim electronic panel cooler with aluminum PF condenser and evaporator was tested and the results are compared with imported panel cooler with fin-tube heat exchangers. The PF heat exchangers significantly (approximately 45%) reduced the refrigerant charge. The air-side pressure drop was also reduced, which resulted in the reduction of the sound level of the panel cooler. The effect of the condenser size was also investigated.

  • For the detection of the state of charge in VRFB-ESS, the analyses of UV-Visible spectrometry and the measurements of potential between the anolyte and catholyte were used in parallel. This paper includes the production of 4-valant ion from VOSO4 powder, 3- and 5-valant ions from electrochemical charge of 4-valant ion and 2-valant ion from 3-valant ion. It also includes the analyses of these valance ions and unknown electrolyte at any time using UV-Visible spectrometry. Through the analyses of the valance ions in samples, the SOCs of the samples at any charge-discharge times were verified.

  • In this paper, first we introduce a new notion of generalized Killing structure Jacobi operator for a real hypersurface M in complex hyperbolic two-plane Grassmannians SU2,m/S (U2·Um). Next we prove that there does not exist a Hopf real hypersurface in complex hyperbolic two-plane Grassmannians SU2,m/S (U2·Um) with generalized Killing structure Jacobi operator.
