  • Flow boiling pressure drop in multi channels was experimently investigated. The multi channel has a width and depth of 0.45 and 0.2mm respectively, and comprises 15 parallel channels. The measured total pressure drop is expressed by the sum of the frictional pressure drop and acceleration pressure drop. In order to predict the total pressure drop, it is required to obtain the correct frictional pressure drop. The existing correlations to predict the frictional pressure were compared with measured frictional pressure drop. The new correlation was developed in the form of the Chisholm correlation. It was related to Chisholm Constant B as a function of Martinelli parameter. The new correlation predicted the experimental data within a mean absolute error of 5.5%.

  • In the present study, the unsteady Hartmann flow with heat transfer of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid under the influence of an exponentially decreasing pressure gradient is studied. The parallel plates are assumed to be porous and subjected to a uniform suction from above and injection from below while the fluid is acted upon by an external uniform magnetic field applied perpendicular to the plates. The equations of motion are solved analytically to yield the velocity distributions for both the fluid and dust particles. The energy equations for both the fluid and dust particles including the viscous and Joule dissipation terms, are solved numerically using finite differences to get the temperature distributions.

  • An electrical generator in power plant is driven and maintained its speed at rated by steam turbine. By the way, after synchronization in parallel with the power system, as the steam flow into turbine can not be reduced fast even though the electrical load is lost, the turbine gets into dangerous situation due to the increase of its speed. At this time, the duty of the turbine governor is to limit the speed to its overspeed trip set point by stopping the steam flow as soon as possible, the test of which is called load rejection test. It is introduced in this paper for a field simulation test of generator load rejection to be implemented on the turbine governor in a 680MW nuclear power plant before its startup.

  • Initial growth stage was investigated for SiC homoepitaxial film growth using 'step controlled epitaxy' technique. When the off angel direction is located parallel along to the gas flow direction, the smoother surface can be obtained. On the on axis substrates, selective etching was detected both the etching and growth condition. It was deduced that the high ratio of C/Si in the source gas results in well developed steps and etched spiral around micropipes.

  • A parallel algorithm of bi-conjugate gradient method was developed based on CUDA for parallel computation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The governing equations were discretized using splitting P2P1 finite element method. Asymmetric stenotic flow problem was solved to validate the proposed algorithm, and then the parallel performance of the GPU was examined by measuring the elapsed times. Further, the GPU performance for sparse matrix-vector multiplication was also investigated with a matrix of fluid-structure interaction problem. A kernel was generated to simultaneously compute the inner product of each row of sparse matrix and a vector. In addition, the kernel was optimized to improve the performance by using both parallel reduction and memory coalescing. In the kernel construction, the effect of warp on the parallel performance of the present CUDA was also examined. The present GPU computation was more than 7 times faster than the single CPU by double precision.

  • With the development of the technology of underwater moving bodies, the need for developing the knowledge of surface effect interaction of free surface and underwater moving bodies is increased. Hence, the two-phase flow is a subject which is interesting for many researchers all around the world. In this paper, the non-linear free surface deformations which occur during the water-exit of a circular cylinder due to its buoyancy are solved using finite volume discretization based code, and using Volume of Fluid (VOF) scheme for solving two phase flow. Dynamic mesh model is used to simulate dynamic motion of the cylinder. In addition, the effect of cylinder mass in presence of an external force is studied. Moreover, the oblique exit and entry of a circular cylinder with two exit angles is simulated. At last, water-exit of a circular cylinder in six degrees of freedom is simulated in 3D using parallel processing. The simulation errors of present work (using VOF method) for maximum velocity and height of a circular cylinder are less than the corresponding errors of level set method reported by previous researchers. Oblique exit shows interesting results; formation of waves caused by exit of the cylinder, wave motion in horizontal direction and the air trapped between the waves are observable. In 3D simulation the visualization of water motion on the top surface of the cylinder and the free surface breaking on the front and back faces of the 3D cylinder at the exit phase are observed which cannot be seen in 2D simulation. Comparing the results, 3D simulation shows better agreement with experimental data, specially in the maximum height position of the cylinder.

  • Optimal design of heat exchanger for closed CO$_{2}$ gas turbine plant of three processes selected from the result of cycle analysis have been discussed previously paper(I) has been carried out under specified inlet and outlet conditions. Independent variables such as number of parallel connection, tube diameter, shell side and tube side pressure loss as well as dependent variables such as shell diameter, number of tubes, number of serial connections were all characterized according to the standardization or so. Search method was used to construct a computer simulation together with the calculation of heat transfer rate by logarithmic mean temperature difference method. Strength analysis of major parts was carried to examine their dimensions satisfying heat transfer and pressure loss requirements.

  • The global environmental problems such as CFC, energy losses in heat recovery system as well as summer peak time power demands, the development of high efficiency absorption refrigeration systems is one of the most promising method in this problems. The absorption refrigeration system to utilize treated sewage is available for environmental protection and energy conservation. Simulation analysis on the double-effect absorption refrigeration cucles with parallel or series flow type has been performed. LiBr+LiI+LiCl+LiNO$_3$ solution was selected as the new working fluid. The main purpose of this study is evaluating the possibilities of effective utilization of treated sewage as a cooling water for the absorber and condenser. The other purpose of the present study is to determine the optimum designs and operating conditions based on the operating constraints and the coefficient of performance in the parallel or series flow type. In this study, we found out the characteristic of new working solution through the cycle simulation and compared LiBr solution to evaluate. The absorption refrigeration machine using the new working fluid was obtained better results COP rise and compactness of system by comparison with LiBr solution.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate how separated and reattached flow affects mass transfer, by comparing the local mass transfer characteristics on an inclined flat plate with those on a parallel flat plate. The local mass transfer coefficients for the flat plate were measured using the naphthalene sublimation technique; the inclined angle of the flat plate was varied from $-10^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$ at $5^{\circ}$ intervals, and the free-stream velocity was varied from 2m/s to 15m/s. At positive inclined angles, the local Sherwood numbers decreased gradually because the boundary-layer thickness increased. On the other hand, for negative inclined angles, the local Sherwood numbers assumed the minimum value at the separation point of the recirculation flow and the maximum value at the reattachment point. The average Sherwood numbers for both positive and negative inclined angles were lower than those in the case of the parallel plate.
