A new droop control method which can be applied to 3-phase 4-wire uninterruptible power supply is proposed in this paper. The droop control method for parallel operation is very attractive one as UPS parallel operation can be carried out without any data communication devices provided among UPS systems connected, but it reportedly shows a PnP(plug-and-play) problem. A basic reason why a circulating current could flow among parallel-connected UPS systems is clearly investigated as well when droop-controlled-ups systems are operated in the manner of PnP. The proposed algorithm is deduced from the investigated result and is basically structured to keep a balanced frequency and balanced voltage profile against power variation. This paper shows that balanced parallel operation of droop control method can be obtained under unbalanced load as well as balanced load conditions when PnP operation is needed and load change occurs.
The operation time of an encoder is one of the critical implementation issues for satisfying the timing requirements of Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems because the encoder is based on binary operations. In this paper, we propose a design and implementation of a latency efficient encoder for LTE systems. By virtue of 8-bit parallel processing of the cyclic redundancy checking attachment, code block (CB) segmentation, and a parallel processor, we are able to construct engines for turbo codings and rate matchings of each CB in a parallel fashion. Experimental results illustrate that although the total area and clock period of the proposed scheme are 19% and 6% larger than those of a conventional method based on a serial scheme, respectively, our parallel structure decreases the latency by about 32% to 65% compared with a serial structure. In particular, our approach is more latency efficient when the encoder processes a number of CBs. In addition, we apply the proposed scheme to a real system based on LTE, so that the timing requirement for ACK/NACK transmission is met by employing the encoder based on the parallel structure.

We propose an intgrated Gill environment system having only integer fuzzy operations in the consequent part and the defuzzification stage. In this paper, we also propose an integrated Gill environment system with 4 parallel fuzzy processing units to be operated in parallel on the classification of the sensed image data. In this, we solve the problems of taking longer times as the fuzzy real computations of [0, 1] by using the integer pixel conversion algorithm to convert lines of each fuzzy linguistic term to the closest integer pixels. This procedure is performed automatically in the GUI application program. As a Gill environment, PCI transmission, image data pre-processing, integer pixel mapping and fuzzy membership tuning are considered. This system can be operated in parallel manner for MIMO or MISO systems.
This paper presents an interleaving scheme for parallel-connected power systems to reduce the DC-link current ripple. A paralleled generator system generates current ripple by the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) of each generator side converter. The current ripple in the DC-link degrades the efficiency of the whole generator system and decreases the lifetime of the DC-link capacitors. To mitigate these issues, the expression of the DC-link current is derived by a double-integral Fourier analysis while considering the modulation schemes. Optimized interleaving angles for the parallel generator system are obtained based on an analysis to minimize the dominant current harmonics component. Finally, the proposed interleaving scheme reduces the RMS value of the DC-link current ripple. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed interleaving scheme.

As chip multiprocessors have been widely adopted in embedded systems, achieving both high performance and low power consumptions of parallel applications becomes challenging. In order to meet these requirements, it is crucial for developers to analyze the performance and energy consumption of parallel applications. In this paper, we propose a tool for profiling and optimizing the performance and energy consumption of OpenMP applications (energy PROfiler and analyzer for OpenMP: ePRO-OMP). The main advantage of ePRO-OMP is that it can analyze both the performance and energy consumption of each parallel region of an OpenMP application, which can help developers find the bottleneck of parallel applications in detail.

This paper presents an application of parallel Genetic Algorithm-Tabu Search(GA-TS) algorithm to search an optimal solution of a reconfiguration in distribution system. The aim of the reconfiguration of distribution systems is to determine switch position to be opened for loss minimization in the radial distribution systems, which is a discrete optimization problem. This problem has many constraints and very difficult to solve the optimal switch position because it has many local minima. This paper develops parallel GA-TS algorithm for reconfiguration of distribution systems. In parallel GA-TS, GA operators are executed for each processor. To prevent solution of low fitness from appearing in the next generation, strings below the average fitness are saved in the tabu list. If best fitness of the GA is not changed for several generations, TS operators are executed for the upper 10% of the population to enhance the local searching capabilities. With migration operation, best string of each node is transferred to the neighboring node aster predetermined iterations are executed. For parallel computing, we developed a PC-cluster system consisting of 8 PCs. Each PC employs the 2 GHz Pentium Ⅳ CPU and is connected with others through ethernet switch based fast ethernet. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, developed algorithm has been tested and compared on a distribution systems in the reference paper. From the simulation results, we can find that the proposed algorithm is efficient and robust for the reconfiguration of distribution system in terms of the solution qualify. speedup. efficiency and computation time.

This paper presents an application of the parallel Genetic Algorithm-Tabu Search (GA- TS) algorithm, and that is to search for an optimal solution of a reconfiguration in distribution systems. This problem has many constraints and it is very difficult to solve the optimal switch position because of its numerous local minima. In this paper, the dynamic controller design problem of a redundant planar 2-dof parallel manipulator is studied. Using the Euler-Lagrange equation, we formulate the dynamic model of the parallel manipulator in the joint space and propose an augmented PD controller with forward dynamic compensation for the parallel manipulator. By formulating the controller in the joint space, we eliminate the complex computation of the Jacobian matrix of joint angles with end-effector coordinate. So with less computation, our controller is easier to implement, and a shorter sampling period can be achieved, which makes the controller more suitable for high-speed motion control. Furthermore, with the combination of static friction model and viscous friction model, the active joint friction of the parallel manipulator is studied and compensated in the controller. Based on the dynamic parameters of the parallel manipulator evaluated by direct measurement and identification, motion control experiments are implemented. With the experiments, the validity of the dynamic model is proved and the performance of the controller is evaluated. Experiment results show that, with forward dynamic compensation, the augmented PD controller can improve the tracking performance of the parallel manipulator over the simple PD controller.

In this paper, output precision characteristics of a planar 6 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanisms are investigated, where the 6 degree-of-freedom mechanism is formed by adding an additional link along with an actuated joint in each serial subchain of the planar 3 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanism. Kinematic analysis for the parallel mechanism is performed, and its first-order kinematic characteristics are examined via kinematic isotropic index, maximum and minimum input-output velocity transmission ratios of the mechanisms. Based on this analysis, two types of planar 6 degrees-of-freedom parallel manipulators are selected. Then, dynamic characteristics of the two selected planar 6 degree-of-freedom parallel mechanisms, via Frobenius norms of inertia matrix and power modeling array, are investigated to compare the magnitudes of required control efforts of both three large actuators and three small actuators when the link lengths of three additional links are changed. It can be concluded from the analysis results that each of these two planar 6 degrees-of-freedom parallel mechanisms has an excellent control-in-the-small characteristics and therefore, it can be very effectively employed as a high-precision macro-micro manipulator when both its link lengths and locations of small and large actuators are properly chosen.
We had been developing the variety of parallel processing systems in order to improve the processing speed of visual media applications. These systems were using multi-access memory system(MAMS) as a parallel memory system, which provides the capability of the simultaneous accesses of image points in a line-segment with an arbitrary degree, which is required in many low-level image processing operations such as edge or line detection in a particular direction, and so on. But, the performance of these systems did not give a faithful speed because of asynchronous feature between MAMS and processing elements. To improve the processing speed of these systems, we have been investigated a pipelined parallel processing system using MAMS. Although the system is considered as being the single instruction multiple data(SIMD) type like the early developed systems, the performance of the system yielded about 2.5 times faster speed.
