  • Objective : We report on the technical feasibility and limitations of the transmanubrial approach for cervicothoracic junction (CTJ) lesions and emphasize the advantage of bisecting the upper part of the manubrium in an inverted Y-shape. Methods : Thirteen patients who underwent the fourteen transmanubrial approach for various CTJ lesions were enrolled during 2005-2014. For the evaluation of the accessibility for the CTJ lesion, we analyzed the two parallel line defined as a straight line parallel to the inferior and superior plateau of the upper and lower healthy vertebrae, the angle of the two parallel lines and the distance from the sternal notch to lines at the sternum on preoperative magnetic resonance images. Surgical limitations and perspectives, as well as postoperative clinical outcomes were evaluated retrospectively. Results : The CTJ lesions were six metastases, three primary bone tumors, two herniated discs, and one each of a traumatic dislocation with syrinx formation and tuberculous spondylitis and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. If two parallel lines pass below the sternal notch, the manubriotomy should be inevitably performed. The mean preoperative Visual analogue scale score was 8 (range, 5-10), which improved to 4 (range, 0-6) postoperatively. Seven cases showed an increase in Frankel score postoperatively. Conclusion : The spatial relationship between the sternal notch and the two parallel lines to the lesion was rational to determine the feasibility of manubriotomy. The transmanubrial approach for CTJ lesions can achieve favorable clinical outcomes by providing direct decompression of lesion and effective reconstruction.

  • In this paper, we proposed a 3 dB coupler using N-section parallel-coupled lines and designed a very compact one based on the analysis results. The coupled line has been analyzed by spectral domain method. After we obtain the s-parameters of N-section parallel-coupled lines by using port reduction method 4-port s-parameters are derived. The 3 dB couplers, which were fabricated, are not necessary to implement high impedance lines and tight coupling gaps as Lange Couplers because loose coupling is used. To realize a minimum section, we used the PCB that has high a dielectric constant and a thickness. The experimental results show that it has wide bandwidth of about 42 %(0.5 dB unbalance) from 3.6 GHz to 5.5 GHz and phase difference within 1 degree. Also, The isolation characteristics about 15 dB at its pass-band are obtained.

  • This paper proposes a dual-band bandpass filter using stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs) with parallel coupled structures. The proposed filter adopts U-shaped SIRs with parallel coupled lines (PCLs) that have interdigital and comb-line shorted ends. The central PCLs build an upper passband and a transmission zero, and the two U-shaped SIRs build a lower passband. Four resonators and coupling structures are theoretically analyzed to derive its scattering parameters. A novel dual-band bandpass filter is designed and fabricated using the induced scattering characteristics. The measured results show that the fabricated dual-band bandpass filter has an insertion loss of less than 1.02 dB in the lower band of 2.45 GHz and of 3.01 dB in the upper band of 3.42 GHz, and a band-to-band isolation of more than 40 dB, from 3.14 to 3.2 GHz.

  • A vanishing point is a point where parallel lines converge, and they become evident when a camera's lenses are used to project 3D space onto a 2D image plane. Vanishing point detection is the use of the information contained within an image to detect the vanishing point, and can be utilized to infer the relative distance between certain points in the image or for understanding the geometry of a 3D scene. Since parallel lines generally exist for the artificial structures within images, line-detection-based vanishing point-detection techniques aim to find the point where the parallel lines of artificial structures converge. To detect parallel lines in an image, we detect edge pixels through edge detection and then find the lines by using the Hough transform. However, the various textures and noise in an image can hamper the line-detection process so that not all of the lines converging toward the vanishing point are obvious. To overcome this difficulty, it is necessary to assign a different weight to each line according to the degree of possibility that the line passes through the vanishing point. While previous research studies assigned equal weight or adopted a simple weighting calculation, in this paper, we are proposing a new method of assigning weights to lines after noticing that the lines that pass through vanishing points typically belong to artificial structures. Experimental results show that our proposed method reduces the vanishing point-estimation error rate by 65% when compared to existing methods.

  • Sextic moment problems with an infinite algebraic variety are still widely open. We study the problem with a single cubic column relation associated to 3 parallel lines in which the variety is infinite. It turns out that this specific column relation has a strong connection with moment problems that have a symmetric algebraic variety. We present more concrete solutions to some sextic moment problems with a symmetric variety.

  • The LTCC bandpass filter using multilayer resonators is made of combline type and interdigital type parallel coupled-lines. The equivalent circuits of parallel coupled-lines are analysed. They are applied to make an equivalent circuit of LTCC bandpass filter using multilayer resonators. The 3-pole bandpass filter of the center frequency of 2.45GHz with 250Hz bandwidth is designed and fabricated. The simulated result of the bandpass filter are presented.

  • This paper takes into account the influence of the different impedances of distribution lines on power distribution among inverters when the inverters are paralleled with the droop control method. The impact of distribution lines on the power distribution of inverters can be divided into two aspects. Firstly, since the distributed generators are in low voltage grids, there is resistive impedance in the distribution lines, which will cause control coupling and reduce system stability. The virtual negative resistive impedance of inverters is adopted in this paper to neutralize the resistive element of distribution lines and thus make the distribution line impedance purely inductive. Secondly, after solving the resistive impedance problem, the difference in the inductive impedance value of distribution lines due to the low density of distributed generators will cause an unequal share of reactive power. With regards to this problem, modification is put forward for the droop control strategy to share the reactive power equally. The feasibility of the design is validated by simulation and experimental results.

  • A Thinning algorithm is a very Important factor in order to recognize the character, figure, and drawing. Until comparatively lately, the thinning algorithm was proposed by various methods. In this paper, we ascertain the point at issue of ZS(Zhang and Suen), LW(Lu and Wang) and WHF(Wang, Hui and Fleming) algorithms that are the parallel thinning algorithms. The parallel thinning algorithm means the first processing doesn't have to influence to the second processing. ZS algorithm has a problem which loses pixels in slanting lines and LW algorithm doesn't have one pixel width in slanting lines. So I propose an advanced parallel thinning algorithm that connects the pixels each other and preserve the end point.
