Advances in circuit and integration technology are continuously boosting the speed of processors. One of the main challenges presented by such developments is the effective use of powerful processors in shared memory multiprocessor system. We believe that the interconnection problem is not solved even for small scale shared memory multiprocessor, since the speed of shared buses is unlikely to keep up with the bandwidth requirements of new powerful processors. In the past few years, point-to-point unidirectional connection have emerged as a very promising interconnection technology. The single slotted ring is the simplest form point-to-point interconnection. The main limitation of the single slotted ring architecture is that latency of access increase linearly with the number of the processors in the ring. Because of this, we proposed the dual slotted ring as an alternative to single slotted ring for cache-based multiprocessor system. In this paper, we analyze the proposed dual slotted ring architecture using new snooping protocol and enforce simulation to compare it with single slotted ring.

Clustering is a technique which is used to measure similarities between data in big data analysis and data mining field. Among various clustering methods, k-Modes algorithm is representatively used for categorical data. To increase the performance of iterative-centric tasks such as k-Modes, a distributed and concurrent framework Spark has been received great attention recently because it overcomes the limitation of Hadoop. Spark provides an environment that can process large amount of data in main memory using the concept of abstract objects called RDD. Spark provides Mllib, a dedicated library for machine learning, but Mllib only includes k-means that can process only continuous data, so there is a limitation that categorical data processing is impossible. In this paper, we design RDD for k-Modes algorithm for categorical data clustering in spark environment and implement an algorithm that can operate effectively. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm increases linearly in the spark environment.
By distributing computing tasks among devices at the edge of networks, edge computing uses virtualization, distributed computing and parallel computing technologies to enable users dynamically obtain computing power, storage space and other services as needed. Applying edge computing architectures to Internet of Vehicles can effectively alleviate the contradiction among the large amount of computing, low delayed vehicle applications, and the limited and uneven resource distribution of vehicles. In this paper, a predictive offloading strategy based on the MEC load state is proposed, which not only considers reducing the delay of calculation results by the RSU multi-hop backhaul, but also reduces the queuing time of tasks at MEC servers. Firstly, the delay factor and the energy consumption factor are introduced according to the characteristics of tasks, and the cost of local execution and offloading to MEC servers for execution are defined. Then, from the perspective of vehicles, the delay preference factor and the energy consumption preference factor are introduced to define the cost of executing a computing task for another computing task. Furthermore, a mathematical optimization model for minimizing the power overhead is constructed with the constraints of time delay and power consumption. Additionally, the simulated annealing algorithm is utilized to solve the optimization model. The simulation results show that this strategy can effectively reduce the system power consumption by shortening the task execution delay. Finally, we can choose whether to offload computing tasks to MEC server for execution according to the size of two costs. This strategy not only meets the requirements of time delay and energy consumption, but also ensures the lowest cost.

Target detection and recognition problems, in which neural networks are widely used, require translation invariant and real-time processing in addition to the requirements that general pattern recognition problems need. This paper presents a novel architecture that meets the requirements and explains effective methodology to train the network. The proposed neural network is an architectural extension of the shared-weight neural network that is composed of the feature extraction stage followed by the pattern recognition stage. Its feature extraction stage performs correlational operation on the input with a weight kernel, and the entire neural network can be considered a nonlinear correlation filter. Therefore, the output of the proposed neural network is correlational plane with peak values at the location of the target. The architecture of this neural network is suitable for implementing with parallel or distributed computers, and this fact allows the application to the problems which require realtime processing. Net training methodology to overcome the problem caused by unbalance of the number of targets and non-targets is also introduced. To verify the performance, the proposed network is applied to detection and recognition problem of a specific automobile driving around in a parking lot. The results show no false alarms and fast processing enough to track a target that moves as fast as about 190 km per hour.

Recently, as the amount of spatial information increases, an interest in the study of spatial information processing has been increased. Spatial database systems extended from the traditional relational database systems are difficult to handle large data sets because of the scalability. SpatialHadoop extended from Hadoop system has a low performance, because spatial computations in SpationHadoop require a lot of write operations of intermediate results to the disk, resulting in the performance degradation. In this paper, Spatial Computation Spark(SC-Spark) is proposed, which is an in-memory based distributed processing framework. SC-Spark is extended from Spark in order to efficiently perform the spatial operation for large-scale data. In addition, SC-Spark based on the GPGPU is developed to improve the performance of the SC-Spark. SC-Spark uses the advantage of the Spark holding intermediate results in the memory. And GPGPU-based SC-Spark can perform spatial operations in parallel using a plurality of processing elements of an GPU. To verify the proposed work, experiments on a single AMD system were performed using SC-Spark and GPGPU-based SC-Spark for Point-in-Polygon and spatial join operation. The experimental results showed that the performance of SC-Spark and GPGPU-based SC-Spark were up-to 8 times faster than SpatialHadoop.
By piling up hidden layers in artificial neural networks, deep learning is delivering outstanding performances for high-level abstraction problems such as object/speech recognition and natural language processing. Alternatively, deep-learning users often struggle with the tremendous amounts of time and resources that are required to train deep neural networks. To alleviate this computational challenge, many approaches have been proposed in a diversity of areas. In this work, two of the existing Apache Spark-based acceleration frameworks for deep learning (SparkNet and DeepSpark) are compared and analyzed in terms of the training accuracy and the time demands. In the authors' experiments with the CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100 benchmark datasets, SparkNet showed a more stable convergence behavior than DeepSpark; but in terms of the training accuracy, DeepSpark delivered a higher classification accuracy of approximately 15%. For some of the cases, DeepSpark also outperformed the sequential implementation running on a single machine in terms of both the accuracy and the running time.

IStreaming services with a client-server architecture have scalability problem because a server cannot accomodate clients more than its processing capability. This paper introduces a case study for implementing H.264 streaming system based on P2P architecture in order to provide scalable and stable broadcast streaming services over the internet. The prototype system called OmniCast264 consists of the H.264 encoding server, the streaming server, the proxy server, and peer nodes. The proxy server dynamically manages placement of the peer nodes on the P2P network. Omnicast264 has the concepts of distributed streaming loads, real-time playback, error-robustness and modularity. Thus, it can provide large-scale broadcast streaming services. Finally, we have built P2P streaming systems with 12 PCs connected serially or in parallel. The experiment shows that OmniCast264 can provide real-time playback.

When constructing various mobile networks including sensor networks, the problem of finding the layout or graph to interconnect the terminals or nodes of the network may come up. Providing a common scheme that can be applied to the kind of problems, and formulating the bounds of the run time and the result of the algorithm from the scheme, one may evaluate precisely the plan of constructing analogous network systems. This paper, dealing with EMST(Euclidean Minimum Spanning Tree) that represents such problems, provides the scheme for constructing EMST by parallel processing over distributed environments, and the ground for determining the maximum difference of the layout or the graph produced from the scheme: the difference from EMST. In addition, it provides the upper bound of the run time of the algorithm from the scheme.

Since human genome project finished, the cost for human genome analysis has decreased very rapidly. This results in the sharp increase of human genome data to be analyzed. As the need for fast analysis of very large bio data such as human genome increases, non IT researchers such as biologists should be able to execute fast and effectively many kinds of bio applications, which have a variety of characteristics, under HPC environment. To accomplish this purpose, a biologist need to define a sequence of bio applications as workflow easily because generally bio applications should be combined and executed in some order. This bio workflow should be executed in the form of distributed and parallel computing by allocating computing resources efficiently under HPC cluster system. Through this kind of job, we can expect better performance and fast response time of very large bio data analysis. This paper proposes a workflow-based data analysis system specialized for bio applications. Using this system, non-IT scientists and researchers can analyze very large bio data easily under HPC environment.
Recently, the rapid development of biotechnology brings the explosion of biological data and biological data host. Moreover, these data are highly distributed and heterogeneous, reflecting the distribution and heterogeneity of the Molecular Biology research community. As a consequence, the integration and interoperability of molecular biology databases are issue of considerable importance. But, up to now, most of the integrated systems such as link based system, data warehouse based system have many problems which are keeping the data up to date when the schema and data of the data source are changed. For this reason, the integrated system using web service technology that allow biological data to be fully exploited have been proposed. In this paper, we built the integrated system if the bio sequence information bated on the web service technology. The developed system allows users to get data with many format such as BSML, GenBank, Fasta to traverse disparate data resources. Also, it has better retrieval performance because the retrieval modules of the external database proceed in parallel.
