  • Many studies have been investigated on high density plasma source (Electron Cyclotron Resonance, Inductively Coupled Plasma, Helicon plasma) for large area source after It is announced that productivity of plasma process depends on plasma density. In this presentation, we will propose the new concept of the multiple source, which consists of a parallel connection of ICP sources and helicon plasma sources. For plasma uniformity, equivalent power (especially, equivalent current in ICP & Helicon) should distribute on each source. We design power feeding line as coaxial transmission line with same length of ground line in each source for equivalent power distribution. And we confirm the equivalent power distribution with simulation and experimental result. Based on basic study, we develop the plasma source for oxidation in semiconductor process. we will discuss the relationship between the processing parameters (With or WithOut magnet, operating pressure, input power ). In ICP, plasma density uniformity is uniform. In ICP with magnet (or Helicon) plasma density is not uniform. As a result, new design (magnet arrangement and gas distributor and etc..) are needed for uniform plasma density in ICP with magnet and Helicon.

  • This paper proposes the configuration of photovoltaic(PV) module considering the environment conditions of the PV system. The PV system is consisted of the series-parallel connection of the PV module. When shadows or changes of the radiation or an electrical characteristic in the solar cell are happened to PV system, the serious power loss will occur. If the PV module connected in series has the shadows, the output current is restricted to current of shaded PV module. Also if shadow is occurred to the parallel connection PV module, the output voltage is limited to voltage of shaded PV module. These problems are caused power loss. Therefore, this paper proposes the method that makes the output power of the PV module equalize by reconfiguration of PV module using the switching considering these environment conditions. A validity of the method proposed in this paper proves through comparing with performance of conventional PV module.

  • Sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) illustrated great potential for powering environmental sensors and bioremediation of sediments. In the present study, array anodes for SMFCs were fabricated with graphite rods as anode material and stainless steel plate as electric current collector to make it inconvenient to in situ settle down and not feasible for large-scale application. The results demonstrated that maximum power of 89.4 ㎼ was obtained from three graphite rods, twice of 43.3 ㎼ for two graphite rods. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed that three graphite rods resulted in anodic resistance of 61.2 Ω, relative to 76.0 Ω of two graphite rods. It was probably caused by the parallel connection of the graphite rods, as well as more biomass which could reduce the charge transfer resistance of the biofilm anode. The presently designed array configuration possesses the advantages of easy to enlarge the surface area, decrease in anodic resistance because of the parallel connection of each graphite rod, and convenience to berry into sediment by gravity. Therefore, the as prepared array node would be an effective method to fabricate large-scale SMFC and make it easy to in situ applicate in natural sediments.

  • We improved quench properties of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) based on YBCO thin films by their serial and parallel combinations. The SFCL consisted of 6 switching elements fabricated of 4 inch-diameter YBCO thin films. Simple serial connection resulted in imbalanced power dissipation between switching elements even at the quench current difference of 0.6A. On the other hand, $2{\times}2\;and\;3{\times}2$ stack combinations produced simultaneous quenches. The $3{\times}2$ stack combination showed better simultaneous quench behavior than the $2{\times}2$ stacks. This is suggested to be because the currents between switching elements in parallel connection of the $3{\times}2$ stacks were more effectively redistributed than the $2{\times}2$ stacks.

  • Air-gap was introduced to suppress the saturation of the iron core comprising the flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with parallel connection of two coils. However, the air-gap makes the impedance of this SFCL decreased and can result in unusefulness of the SFCL. To analyze the current limiting characteristics of the SFCL with the air-gap, the experimental circuit for short-circuit test was constructed. Through the comparison with the current limiting characteristics of the SFCL without air-gap, the merit and the demerit of the flux-lock type SFCL with the air-gap were discussed.

  • In this study, in order to propose a modular method for type IV high aspect ratio modular hydrogen storage vessel, a numerical analysis was conducted on the heat transfer behavior in series and parallel connection methods, and the differences according to each connection method were reviewed. Computational fluid dynamics software was used to check the internal temperature and pressure values of the hydrogen storage container under charging conditions. In terms of thermal safety when charging hydrogen gas, it was confirmed that the parallel modularization method was superior.

  • A turn-buckle is capable of adjusting the tensile force by left-hand threads and right-hand threads between tension members. There are different types of turn-buckles according to tension member and connection form but the practical and existing turn-buckles are incapable of measuring the tensile force. A turn-buckle for adjusting and measuring tensile force has therefore been developed. This study shows the ultimate strength and reliability for measurement of the new turn-buckles through finite element analysis of the developed ones. From analytic results of the new turn-buckles which have the measurement limit loads of 100kN, 200kN and 300kN, the ultimate strength is approximately five times stronger than the measurement limit capacity. Additionally, a review of the new turn-buckle, which has the measurement limit load of over 300kN, shows that there is a tendency for the size of turn-buckle to become larger. So the connection devices were designed and the loading test was conducted from the concept that the parallel connection of turn-buckle with 300kN capacity can measure the tensile force of 600kN. The results of parallel loading test show the sufficient possibility. Furthermore, the mock-up test was constructed to investigate the release of initial load and corrosion when the new turn-buckle is installed at the outdoor and exposed to rain and atmosphere.

  • To study the bearing characteristics of glass fiber reinforced glulam for structural design, bearing strength tests were performed. Bearing loads were applied in the direction parallel to the grains, and the holes were prepared in such a way that the bolts would bear and support all the layers. The yield bearing strengths of the glass fiber reinforced glulam were found to be similar to those of the non-reinforced glulam, and were almost constant regardless of increases in bolt diameter. The ratio of the experimental yield bearing strength to the estimated bearing strength according to the suggested equation of the Korea Building Code and National Design Specification was 0.91~1.03. For the non-reinforced glulam and the sheet glass fiber reinforced plastic glulam, the maximum bearing load was measured according to the splitting fracture of specimens under bolt. The textile glass fiber reinforced glulam underwent only an embedding failure caused by the bearing load. The failure mode of reinforced glulam according to bearing load will influence the failure behavior of bolted connection, and estimating the shear yield strength of the bolted connection of the reinforced glulam is necessary, not only by using the bearing strength characteristics but also using the fracture toughness of the reinforced glulam.

  • A behavior model for screw connections is developed to provide a better representation of the nonlinear response of thin steel plate shear walls (TSPSWs) with infill plates attached to the boundary frame members via self-drilling screws. This analytical representation is based on the load-bearing deformation relationship between the infill plate and the screw threads. The model can be easily implemented in strip models of TSPSWs where the tension field action of the infill plates is represented by a series of parallel discrete tension-only strips. Previously reported experimental results from tests of two different TSPSWs are used to provide experimental validation of the modeling approach. The beam-to-column connection behavior was also included in the analyses using a four parameter rotational spring model that was calibrated to a test of an identical frame as used for the TSPSW specimens but without the infill plates. The complete TSPSW models consisting of strips representing the infill plates, zero length elements representing the load-bearing deformation response of the screw connection at each end of the strips and the four parameter spring model at each beam-to-column connection are shown to have good agreement with the experimental results. The resulting models should enable design and analysis of TSPSWs for both new construction and retrofit of existing buildings.

  • This study was focused on the investigation of the effects of membrane module configuration and the temperature of feed retentate flowing along with module length on membrane performance through model simulation. A simulation model of pervaporative dehydration through membrane module assemble in which a number of unit modules are connected in parallel or in series has been established. In this study, ethanol/water mixture was used as model mixture. Some of permeation parameters in the model were quantified directly from the real dehydration pervaporation of ethanol through a lab-made membrane. By adopting the coefficients determined empirically the simulation model could be of more practical value. The simulation of pervaporation with two basic module configurations, that is, parallel connection and series connection, could present the importance of process parameters such as feed rate, module connection mode, number of stages, and inter-stage heating.
