  • Many application in human computer interaction(HCI) require tacking a human face and facial features. In this paper we propose efficient parallel processing system for face tracking under heterogeneous networked. To track a face in the video image we use the skin color information and connected components. In terms of parallelism we choose the master-slave model which has thread for each processes, master and slaves, The threads are responsible for real computation in each process. By placing queues between the threads we give flexibility of data flowing

요동하는 충돌제트에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Oscillatory Impinging Jet)

  • In this paper, we present that now and heat transfer characteristics of oscillatory impinging jet which have been numerically investigated using parallel computations. Numerical value were obtained for dimensionless distance H=4, dimensionless outlet length L=45 and Reynolds number Re= 1500. It was found that the oscillatory impinging jet generated the regular heat transfer area even though the maximum heat transfer is lower than nonoscillatory impinging jet. We also found that heat transfer depends on the period of nozzle for the oscillatory impinging jet.

  • This paper presents a Tabu Search method to minimize a number of tardy jobs in the nonidentical parallel machine scheduling. The Tabu Search method employs a restricted neighborhood for the reduction of computation time. In this paper, we use two different types of method for a single machine scheduling. One is Moore's algorithm and the other is insertion method. We discuss computational experiments on more than 1000 test problems.

  • In numerical computation, it is desirable to access any row or column, the main diagonal, subarrays, of a matrix without any conflict for successful parallel processing. To meet this requirement special storage scheme is used for conflict-free access of necessary data. Interconnection network, which connects processing elements and processing element memory modules, is required to execute the necessary operations. In this paper we discuss the skewing method for conflict-free, access to various bit slices and single-stage interconnection networks.

  • In the field of structural analysis so-called substructure methods have been applied extensively to solve large and complex structures by splitting them up in substructures. This substructure method is applicable to electromagnetic field analysis and highly parallel in nature. In this paper substructure FEM is implemented for magnetostatic field computation using parallel computer consists of many transputers. Parallel substructure method is a promising tool as a solution of not only compuation speed problem but also memory problem.

  • Aparallel computing environment was constructed based on Windows 2000 operating system. This cluster was configured using Fast-Ethernet system to hold up together the clients within a network domain. For the parallel computation, MPI implements for Windows such as MPICH.NT.1.2.2 and MP-MPICHNT.1.2 were used with Compaq Visual Fortran compiler which produce a well optimized executives for x86 systems. The evaluation of this cluster performance was carried out using a preconditioned Navier-Stokes code for the 2D analysis of a compressible and viscous flow around a compressor blade. The parallel performance was examined in comparison with those of Linux clusters studied previously by changing a number of processors, problem size and MPI libraries. The result from the test problems presents that parallel performance of the low cost Fast-Ethernet Windows cluster is superior to that of a Linux cluster of similar configuration and is comparable to that of a Myrinet cluster.

Design and optimization of steel trusses using genetic algorithms, parallel computing, and human-computer interaction

  • A hybrid structural design and optimization methodology that combines the strengths of genetic algorithms, local search techniques, and parallel computing is developed to evolve optimal truss systems in this research effort. The primary objective that is met in evolving near-optimal or optimal structural systems using this approach is the capability of satisfying user-defined design criteria while minimizing the computational time required. The application of genetic algorithms to the design and optimization of truss systems supports conceptual design by facilitating the exploration of new design alternatives. In addition, final shape optimization of the evolved designs is supported through the refinement of member sizes using local search techniques for further improvement. The use of the hybrid approach, therefore, enhances the overall process of structural design. Parallel computing is implemented to reduce the total computation time required to obtain near-optimal designs. The support of human-computer interaction during layout optimization and local optimization is also discussed since it assists in evolving optimal truss systems that better satisfy a user's design requirements and design preferences.

  • A fast pattern classification algorithm with Cellular Parallel Processing Network-based dynamic programming is proposed. The Cellular Parallel Processing Networks is an analog parallel processing architecture and the dynamic programming is an efficient computation algorithm for optimization problem. Combining merits of these two technologies, fast Pattern classification with optimization is formed. On such CPPN-based dynamic programming, if exemplars and test patterns are presented as the goals and the start positions, respectively, the optimal paths from test patterns to their closest exemplars are found. Such paths are utilized as aggregating keys for the classification. The pattern classification is performed well regardless of degree of the nonlinearity in class borders.

  • A parallel approach using a network of engineering workstations is presented for the efficient computation in the elastoplastic analysis of strip rolling process. The domain decomposition method coupled with the frontal solver for elimination of internal degrees of freedom in each subdomain is used. PVM is used for message passing and synchronization between processors. A 2-D plane strain problem and the strip rolling process are analyzed to demonstrate the performance of the algorithm and factors that have a great effect on efficiency are discussed. In spite of much communication time on the network the result illustrates the advantages of this parallel algorithm over its corresponding sequential algorithm.

  • IBM developed the MPI-IO, we call it MPI-2, on the General Parallel File System. We designed and implemented various Matrix Multiplication Benchmarks to evaluate its performances. The MPI-IO on the General Parallel File System shows four kinds of data access methods : the non-collective and blocking, the collective and blocking, the non-collective and non-blocking, and the split collective operation. In this paper, we propose benchmarks to measure the IO time and the computation time for the data access methods. We describe not only its implementation but also the performance evaluation results.
