  • This paper proposes a resonance power-combining technique using CRLH-transmission line. The circuits using proposed technique consist of the parallel capacitances and transmission lines to satisfy matching conditions and to combine power of amplifiers. The CRLH(Composite Right/Lefi-Handed) transmission lines are used to reduce the circuit size. As a result, the power combining amplifier using proposed techniques is measured that a gain is equal and the output power is increased about 2.2 dB higher than the single amplifier. Also, a size of amplifier is 78.3 % smaller than the conventional amplifier using RH transmission line.

  • A novel tunable bandstop filter was proposed. It is composed of a right-handed transmission line, which has lowpass characteristics, and a left-handed transmission line which has highpass characteristics. Dispersion relations for the unit cells of RHTL and LHTL were derived by the method of ABCD parameter analysis. Varactor diodes and chip inductors were used to make the unit cells of RHTL and LHTL. A tunable bandstop filter was designed and fabricated by the parallel connection of RHTL and LHTL. The measured results of the proposed tunable bandstop filter are agreed well with the simulated results.

  • With advance of high bandwidth network infrastructure, the requirement is dramatically increasing to cooperate between the users who are far from each other and make use of bulk data. However, as the prominent data transmission protocol, it is well known that TCP suffers some degrees of inefficiency for bulk data transmission when RTT is relatively big. So, some works are on going to suggest a new transmission method to utilize the bandwidth in effective. UDT(UDP-based Data Transfer protocol) is one of these. It is a UDP based application level protocol which can guarantee reliability and stability. much like as TCP. In this paper, we present a design and implementation of UDT based bulk data transmission tool by applying parallel and compressive techniques. The implementation result is examined to measured its performance improvement on a real test-bed, and then compared with existing bulk data transmission tools. Experimental results show that proposed tool is more stable and shows greater performance than that of native UDT. Especially, the performances show 244% improvement in RTT 400ms without losses and 229% in RTT 250ms with 0.005% losses respectively.

  • In this paper, characteristics on arrangement of coils in the wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonance is presented. A helical structure is used for a self-resonant coil. To design a proper self-resonant helical coil, its inductance and capacitance are obtained. Using the finite element method, the self-resonant coil designed is simulated and characteristics of wireless power transfer with various arrangement between Tx and Rx resonant coils is analyzed. For verification, a prototype of a wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonance is fabricated and efficiency of different arrangement such as both vertical and parallel arrangements is measured. From the measurement, transmission efficiency of 50 % for parallel arrangement is obtained within twice the diameter of the coil while for the vertical arrangement it is measured within one and a half diameter of the coil. Maximum efficiency of 84.25 % is observed at the distance 40 cm from the resonant coil in the case of parallel arrangement.

  • Recently, wireless communication systems have been developed and the circuits which operate with the broad-band for multiband uses were introduced. However, broad-band circuits have problems that inevitably increase the size. Dual-band circuit operates only two frequency, therefore, it will be able to miniaturize through unnecessary decreased elements. The Wilkinson power divider is the one of the most commonly used components in wireless communication system for power division. Nowaday, the Wilkinson power divider is also demanded dual-band. In this paper, I propose miniaturized dual-band Wilkinson power divider operating at 2.45 GHz and 5.2 GHz for IEEE 802.11n standard. Proposed dual-band Wilkinson power divider is used in parallel stub line. The design is accomplished by transforming the electrical length and impedance of the quarter wave sections of the conventional Wilkinson power divider into dual band ${\pi}$-shaped sections.

  • Substations in electric power transmission network systems (EPTS) operate using several transformers in parallel to increase the efficiency in terms of stability of energy supply. We present a seismic reliability assessment method of EPTS considering the parallel operation of transformers. Two methods for damage state model are compared in this paper: bi-state and multi-damage model. Simulation results showed that both models yielded similar network reliability indices and the reliability indices of the demand nodes using hi-state model exhibited higher damage probability. Particularly, the corresponding EENS (Expected Energy Not Supplied) index was significantly larger than that of the multi-damage state.

  • In wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN), the latency of transmission is an increasingly problem. With the improvement of resolution, the time cost in image and video compression is more and more, which seriously affects the real-time of WMSN. In JPEG system, the core of the system is DCT, but DCT-JPEG is not the best choice. Block-based DCT transform coding has serious blocking artifacts when the image is highly compressed at low bit rates. APBT is used in this paper to solve that problem, but APBT does not have a fast algorithm. In this paper, we analyze the structure in JPEG and propose a parallel framework to speed up the algorithm of JPEG on GPU. And we use all phase biorthogonal transform (APBT) to replace the discrete cosine transform (DCT) for the better performance of reconstructed image. Therefore, parallel APBT-JPEG is proposed to solve the real-time of WMSN and the blocking artifacts in DCT-JPEG in this paper. We use the CUDA toolkit based on GPU which is released by NVIDIA to design the parallel algorithm of APBT-JPEG. Experimental results show that the maximum speedup ratio of parallel algorithm of APBT-JPEG can reach more than 100 times with a very low version GPU, compared with conventional serial APBT-JPEG. And the reconstructed image using the proposed algorithm has better performance than the DCT-JPEG in terms of objective quality and subjective effect. The proposed parallel algorithm based on GPU of APBT also can be used in image compression, video compression, the edge detection and some other fields of image processing.

  • As network environments have been improved and the use of internet has been increased, mobile agent technologies are widely used in the fields of information retrieval, network management, electronic commerce, and parallel/distributed processing. Recently, a lot of researchers have studied the concepts of parallel/distributed processing based on mobile agents. SPMD is the parallel processing method which transmits a program to all the computers participated in parallel environment, and performs a work with different data. Therefore, to transmit fast a program to all the computers is one of important factors to reduce total execution time. In this paper, we consider the parallel environment consisting of mobile agents system, and propose a new method which transmits fast a mobile agent code to all the computers using binomial trees in order to efficiently perform the SPMD parallel processing. The proposed method is compared with another ones through experimental evaluation on the IBM's Aglets, and gets greatly better performance. Also this paper deals with fault tolerances which can be occurred in transmitting a mobile agent using binomial trees.

  • Recently, demand for technology for energy economy and stable supply is increasing due to the increase in power demand of loads. The amount of DC power generation using new and renewable energy is noticeably increasing, and the use of DC power supplies is also increasing due to the increase in electric vehicles and digital loads. During parallel operation to increase the capacity of the power converter, the module bus method or the method using Can communication and serial communication has significant difficulties in smooth operation due to communication time delay for information sharing. Synchronization of information sharing of each power converter is essential for smooth parallel operation, and minimization of communication time delay is urgently needed as a way to overcome this problem. In this paper, a new communication method using pulse width information is proposed as a communication method specialized for parallel operation of power converters to compensate for the disadvantage of communication transmission delay in the existing system. The proposed communication method has the advantage of being easily implemented using the PWM and Capture function of the microcomputer. In addition, the DC/DC converter for DC distribution was verified through simulation and experiment, and it has the advantage of easy capacity expansion when applied to parallel operation of various types of power converters as well as DC/DC converters.

  • In this paper, we have been implemented the QPSK-based underwater transmission systems using DSP in order to transmit the underwater image data. We have adopted a BDPA (Block Data Parallel Architecture) to control multiple DSPs used in the transmitter and receiver in order to transmit the image data in real-time. We also have developed GUI software in order to drive and to debug the implemanted system in real-time. We have executed open sea tests in order to analyze the performance of the implemented system at East Sea near Kosung in Kangwon-Do. As a result of these experiments, it has been demonstrated that 10 kbps image data can be received without errors at 30m and 80m depth points, while the distance between the transmitter and the receiver is up to 20m.
