  • Periodically slotted dielectricalloy filled parallel-plate waveguide as a leaky wave antenna is designed and fabricated at the center frequency of 10.0GHz. The antenna was fed by use of a hog-horn structure. The hog-horn and the two side walls and the lower plate of parallel-plate waveguide were fabricated form duralumin. The upper plate of parallel-plate waveguide with 48 periodic slots was made of copper plate of 1mm thickness. The dielectric material inside the parallel-plate waveguide was chosen to be paraffin. The experimental radiation pattern for the fbricated antenna was compared with the theoretical results for the finite periodic structure.

  • This paper introduces a simple new procedure approach to determine the permittivity of dielectric slabs. The method uses a parallel plate waveguide which supports a TEM mode. The presence of the dielectric slab placed at the bottom of the waveguide makes the speed of the TEM wave slower. The relationship between the change of the speed and the permittivity of the dielectric slab allows the determination of the permittivity. The relationship is analyzed electromagnetically, and the results of measurements are in good agreement with the analysis.

  • The problem of electromagnetic coupling through a slit in a flanged parallel-plate waveguide is considered. The equivalent slit admittance associated with reactive powers near the coupling slit inside and outside the waveguide has been obtained. The maximum coupling mechanism for the case of narrow slit has been quantitatively discussed. The effects of various geometrical parameters such as guide height, slit width, and slit of offset on the radiation characteristics of the geometry have been investigated.

  • Transverse electric modes in parallel plate waveguide of which cut-off frequency is much lower than that of $TE_1$ and $TM_1$ mode generally known as the lowest higher order mode are investigated. Electric and magnetic field components of the modes are evaluated with the assumption that boundaries at both sides are perfect magnetic conductor. The existence of these modes are verified by simulation and experimental measurement of parallel plate waveguide cavity. Changed characteristics from the fact that the boundaries are imperfect are studied.

  • The problem of electromagnetic coupling between a slit fed by a flanged parallel-plate waveguide(PPW) and a slit in an infinite nearby conducting screen parallel to the flanged ground conductor is studied as a simplified problem for a near-field scanning microscopy(NSM). The method of moments isused to solve the coupled integral equations for the electric field distributions over the slits. The performance of the proposed apparatus as an NSM is tested by examining the effects of some geometrical parameters on the equivalent slit admittance and coupled powers through the slits.

  • In this study, it has been considered that the TEM wave is incident on the transverse slit in the upper plate of a short-ended parallel-plate waveguide (PPW). An equivalent slit admittance and complex power for the case of narrow slit are obtained. The conditions for the slit voltage and the complex power in case of the maximum coupling through the slit with a nearby scatterer exterior the PPW are checked.

  • A solution which combines ray and aperture integration(AI) techniques is presented for the problem of electromagnetic plane wave scattering by an open-ended, perfectly-conducting, semi-infinite parallel plate waveguide with a thin, uniform layer of lossy or absorbing material on its inner walls, and with a simple planar termination inside. Numerical results are given for the fields outside the waveguide.

  • In this paper, a high frequency method is developed which combines the uniform Geometrical Theory of Diffraction(GTD) and the Aperture Integration(AI) to analyze electromagnetic plane wave scattering by a perfectly-conducting, open-ended, semi-infinite parallel plate waveguide with a uniform layer of absorbing material on its inner wall, and with a slanted planar termination inside. In this method, first, the field of an arbitary point inside the paraller plate waveguide is computed by the GTD. Second, the field scattered into exterior region by the waveguide is found using the equivalent current, which can be obtaind from the aperture field of the waveguide and using the AI. Numerical results based on this GTD method are presented and compared with those based on the mode matching method.

  • In this paper, new algorithm which calculates transmission coefficient of electromagnetic wave by numerical analysis of scattered field by conductors with arbitrary cross-sections in parallel-plate waveguide is proposed. Proposed algorithm assumes magnetic current distribution on the boundary of scattering conductors, and applies Image theorem to perfect conductor surfaces of parallel-plate waveguide. Integral equations for fictitious magnetic currents on conducting boundary are set up. Magnetic current distributions on conducting boundary are expanded as exponential basis function, and using Galerkin method matrix equations are set wp. To compute matrix elements this method utilizes Fourier transform which is faster than numerical integration. Finally, frequency and incidence-angle characteristic of transmission coefficient are calculated and compared with experimental results.

  • The results of the experimental and theoretical studies conducted on terahertz filtering using two parallel-plate waveguides (PPWGs) are presented herein. The first PPWG with 355 ${\mu}m$ plate separation generates 4 THz bandwidth TM modes ($TM_0,\;TM_2,\;and\;TM_4$), whereas the second PPWG with 100 ${\mu}m$ plate separation operated the THz filter for the generated TM modes with 1.5 THz cutoff frequency. The outgoing THz wave of the two PPWGs was truncated until 1.5 THz, and the system was operated using a high-pass THz filter. The absorption and dispersion of the combined TM and TE modes for the filtering system were calculated. The theoretical calculation and measurement results for the cutoff and oscillation frequency in the spectrum domain agreed well.
