The relationship between the environmental factors (water temperature, salinity, chlorophyll-a concentration, Noctiluca scintillans density, Diatoms and Dinoflagellates densities) and the zooplankton community was investigated. Zooplankton were seasonally collected at 11 stations of Gwangyang Bay from November 2015 to July 2016. A mean abundance ranged from 544 to $19,753indiv.\;m^{-3}$. The maximum abundance was observed to be $40,000indiv.\;m^{-3}$ in July and the minimum occurred in November with $412indiv.\;m^{-3}$. The zooplankton consisted of 35 taxa, which is dominated by Paracalanus parvus s. l., Corycaeus spp., Oithona spp., Acartia omorii, A. ohtsukai, Centropages abdominalis, unidentified harpacticoids. The result of the Redundancy Analysis (RDA) conducted between the zooplankton and the environmental factors showed that the spring-autumn, summer and winter are separated. The summer was closely related to temperature and diatom density, while the winter was linked to salinity and N. scintillans density (p<0.05).

We investigated the abundance and composition of the zooplankton community around Dokdo in the East Sea from 2006 to 2015. Zooplankton samples were collected in the surface mixed layer by vertical hauls using a standard type net at the monitoring stations. There were no clear long-term trends in the average temperature and salinity, but relatively low salinity was recorded in the summer of 2013 and 2015. The average abundances of zooplankton in the summer increased by two orders of magnitude from $317inds./m^3$ in 2008 to $10,242inds./m^3$ in 2015. This long-term increase was accompanied by a slight increase in the chlorophyll-a concentration and a decrease in the catch of potential crucial predators (anchovy, mackerel pike, squid, herring and horse mackerel) in the study area. The dominant zooplankton, accounting for most of the long-term increase, consisted of appendicularian (Oikopleura spp.), which showed a steady increase since 2012, summer species such as Noctiluca scintillans and the cladoceran Penilia avirostris, which showed an abrupt increase, and the copepod Paracalanus parvus s.l., which showed a rapid increase after its first occurrence in summer 2010. These results suggest that the long-term increase of zooplankton could be related to the increase in the concentration of prey and the decrease in the predation pressure of potential predators around Dokdo in the study area.

To understand the spatiotemporal distribution pattern of zooplankton and the environmental factors influencing zooplankton abundance in Gomso Bay, major harvesting area of Manila clam (Venerupis philippinarum) in South Korea, zooplankton sampling was conducted four times in autumn (October 2022), winter (January 2023), early spring (March 2023), and spring (May 2023). Among the environmental factors of Gomso Bay, water temperature, chlorophyll a concentration (Chl-a), dissolved oxygen (DO), and pH observed different patterns, while salinity and suspended particulate matter(SPM) showed no significant statistical differences between the survey periods. The zooplankton in Gomso Bay occurred 33, 29, 27, and 29 taxonomic groups during each respective survey period. In October 2022 and May 2023, arthropod plankton were dominated, while in January and March 2023, protozoa were primarily dominant. Among the Arthropods, copepods including Acartia hongi, Paracalanus parvus s. l., Corycaeus spp., and Oithona spp. commonly found along Korean coastal areas of the Yellow Sea, were dominated. Cluster analysis based on zooplankton abundance indicated a single community (stable condition) in each season, attributed to low dissimilarity distances, while three distinct clusters (autumn, winter-early spring, spring) between seasons indicated a highly seasonal environment in Gomso Bay.
Distribution of zooplankton communities was sampled vertically with a NORPAC net investigated in costal area of Wando from 30, August at 7 stations. A total of 37 taxa were sampled with a total abundance of zooplankton ranged from $147{\sim}1,696indiv.\;m^{-3}$. Evadne tergestina, Acartia pacifica, Paracalanus parvus s. 1, Decapod larvae, Sagitta crassa were dominant species in coastal area of Wando and they contributed 90% of mean abundance of total zooplankton. Multivariate analysis revealed significant differences in community structure among the three regions: the site 1 (A), the middle part of the sampling area (B) and other sites (C). The number and abundance of zooplankton varied significantly among the three regions (p < 0.05). Of these, the distribution of zooplankton communities in the coastal area of Wando was controlled by Tsushima Warn Current and bottom cold water of Yellow Sea.
The short-term variations of the mesozooplankton community structure were investigated in Gamak Bay during summer season, 2006. The study was based on a comprehensive survey constituting from 12 stations on June 19, July 28, August 4, and August 29, respectively. Mean of temperature and chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentrations in the surface layer were significantly higher than those in bottom layer, and those concentrations were significantly higher in the inner bay than those in the outer bay. A total of 40 taxa including 19 copepods were observed in Gamak Bay during summer season. Mean abundance of total mesozooplankton varied from 1,859 to 26,111 indiv. $m^{-3}$. The dominant species were Noctiluca scintillans, Penilia avirostris, Evadne tergestina, Paracalanus parvus s. 1., Acartia omorii and Cirriped nauplii and cyprii in Gamak Bay, and they contributed 90% of mean abundance of total mesozooplankton. Noctiluca scintillans was high after the rainfall. Cluster analysis showed that the mesozooplankton community could be divided into 4 distinct groups, indicating rapid change of the community in the short-term of this survey. The relative contribution of each group of the N. scintillans, P. avirostris, E. tergestina, and P. parvus s. 1. showed differences during the phytoplankton bloom period. The mesozooplankton community compositions were highly associated with water temperature, and salinity in physical conditions, and food organisms affect short-term variations in mesozooplankton composition. Interestingly, protozoa N. scintillans, and Cladocera appeared to be one of the key organisms to extinguish the phytoplankton bloom. Therefore, this study suggests that N. scintillans, and Cladocera could be a key player to control the mesozooplankton community structure during summer season, 2006.
The seasonal variations in the zooplankton community of the southern coastal waters of Korea were investigated seasonally in May, August, November 2005, and February 2006. A total of 74 taxa were sampled, with an average abundance ranging from 2,426~23,793 indiv./$m^3$, among which Noctiluca scintillans predominated. Noctiluca scintillans, Acartia omorii, Acartia erythraea, Paracalanus parvus s. l., Centropages abdominalis, Tortanus forcipatus, and Pseudevadne tergestina were the most abundant species detected. Zooplankton diversity was high around the inner regions during the summer, but it was relatively low in the stations located in the outer regions in the autumn. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) revealed significant differences in the structures of the zooplankton community among the three regions. Our results showed that the seasonal variations in zooplankton communities in the southern coastal waters of Korea were attributable to seasonal changes in temperature, salinity, chlorophyll a concentrations, and N. scintillans blooms; additionally, this particularly study area might have been specifically influenced by the appearance of the Tsushima Warm Current.

Gut contents of larval gunnels collected in Kyonggi Bay, Yellow Sea were examined in order to understand the feeding habit of the fish. There were some differences in the gut contents depending upon the body length of the fish. Most important food organisms were Copepoda followed by Appendicularia, fish eggs and Decapoda larvae. Although major food organisms were closely related to the size of zooplankton population, the fish showed a positive food selectivity for Copepoda with increasing body lengh, while there was a negative selectivity for Chaetognatha regardless of body length. However, there appeared to be no size preference on the food organisms by the larval gunnel.
In order to study the seasonal characteristics of species composition and abundance, zooplankton samples were collected from April 1987 to June 1988 with bimonthly intervals in the Mid-Eastern part of the Yellow sea. Among the 24 species of 18 genera occurred in this study area, 17 species are copepods. Noctiluca scintillant has greatly influenced on the distribution of the zooplankton in the coastal area and some copepods may be excluded by its great occurrence. the seasonal variation of abundance of copepods accounting for 30-63.4% of total zooplankton were more varied among stations in the coastal area than in the offshore. It suggests that environmental factors are more variable in the coastal area than in the offshore. In the Copepod community, Acartia omorii, Paracalanus parvus and Corycaeus affinis were predominant in April and June, from August to December and in December, respectively. Sagita enflata as a Kuroshio indicator species, occurred in the study area from August to December. The great occurrence of warm water species, Doliolum sp. in October and the occurrence of Sagitta enflata from August to December suggested that there is a influx of the tributaries of Kuroshio current into the study area. It appeared that the seasonal characteristics of species composition and abundance of zooplankton were affected by the seasonal variation of water mass.

This study was conducted to understand the seasonal patterns and variation of the copepod community in the Anma Islands of Yeonggwang, Yellow Sea, with a focus on seasonal surveys to assess the factors affecting their occurrence. Throughout the survey period, Acartia hongi, Paracalanus parvus s. l., and Ditrichocorycaeus affinis were dominant species, while Acartia ohtsukai, Acartia pacifica, Bestiolina coreana, Centropages abdominalis, Labidocera rotunda, Paracalanus sp., Tortanus derjugini, Tortanus forcipatus occurred differently by season and station. As a results of cluster analysis, the copepod communities were distinguished into three distinct groups: spring-winter, summer, and autumn. The results of this study showed that the occurrence patterns of copepod species can vary depending on environmental conditions (topographic, distance from the inshore, etc.), and their spatial occurrence patterns between seasons were controlled by water temperature and prey conditions. One of the physical mechanisms that can affect the distribution of zooplankton in the Yellow Sea is the behavior of the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water (YSBCW), which shows remarkable seasonal fluctuations. More detailed further studies are needed for clear grounds for mainly why to many Calanus sinicus in the central region of the Yellow Sea are seasonally moving to the inshore, what strategies to seasonally maintain the population, and support the possibilities of complex factors.

The monthly variations of zooplankton community were investigated at 12 stations near Tongyeong and Namhaedo in the South Sea of Korea from April to July, 2012. Zooplankton samples were collected by a plankton net (RN80) from near the bottom to the surface. Zooplankton community consisted of 97 taxa, and the mean abundance ranged from $213inds.m^{-3}$ in July to $426inds.m^{-3}$ in April. Copepods constituted 38.98% of zooplankton abundance, and included 39 species. Calanus sinicus, Corycaeus affinis, Paracalanus parvus s.l., copepodids, Evadne nordmonni, Podon leuckarti, cirriped nauplii, Muggiacea sp., Diphyes sp., and Zonosagitta bedoti were dominant species. Of these, Calanus sinicus was the most abundant throughout the study period, being constituted 18.6% of total zooplankton abundance. The density variations of dominant species between stations and months were correlated with the environmental factors. Zooplankton community varied with by sampling months, being influenced by monthly oceanographic variations.
