  • It is generally known that paper industry is the second largest industry in the use of process water, and also have the highest environmental impact load in the contaminant sources. Paper is produced from the mixtures composed of 1% fibrous raw materials and 99% water. The optimum use of process water effects on the quality properties of paper and the environmental impact load of waste water treatment. In this research, the kinds of fibrous raw material & additives used in the paperboard production line were investigated, and the quantification of environmental loads and the environmental effects of process water on COD potential were evaluated. The NBDCODs were also analyzed from process water by the method of waste water treatment in paper mill and applied for the optimum use of recycling water, and zero effluent process. In the fibrous raw materials, KOCC caused the highest COD potentials, and sack paper & UKP was comparatively low. The NBDCOD of KOCC largely reduced after biological treatment because of easily biodegradable properties, but AOCC contained non-biodegradable materials. In chemical additives, COD was high in turns of rosin>starch>deaeration agent>dye, NBDCOD greatly reduced in starch and deaeration agent. In the case of 2 kinds of paperboard product, the COD potentials was mainly high in starch, AOCC and KOCC.

  • Paper materials for long term conservation suffer slowly mechanical and chemical deterioration, the extent of which may depend upon their conservation environment. Those deterioration includes discoloring, low moisture content, acidification, and brittleness. To slow deterioration, washing treatment, deacidification, and polymer reinforcement on paper materials are usually used. One easy and simple method of fixing low moisture content and acidification was an washing method, and we used both distilled and alkali water in washing method in this study. Alkali water is electrolyzed cathode water of high pH, and has no alkali metal ions in it. Experiment showed that washing treatment with both distilled and alkali water gave improvement in raising moisture content, pH, and mechanical strength of paper materials even after severe accelerated aging test. Advantageous effect of alkali water over distilled water on preventing deterioation was also shown clearly.

  • Micro inorganic solids and dissolved materials contained in the white water of linerboard process was obtained by centrifugation, and their characteristics were analyzed along with their effects on the mechanical properties of linerboard. Micro inorganic materials had little influence on tensile index and ZDT of UKP sheets. They showed rather a positive effect on mechanical properties of KOCC sheets due to adsorbed polymer. Mechanical properties of KOCC sheets decreased remarkably when the concentration of dissolved materials increased especially above 4000 ppm.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develope the appratus for measuring the physical properties of the solid materials electrically, which are now well-known materials for industrial products. Previously Tensilon was used to measure the coefficient of the elasticity of solid, which the treatment of specimens and the measurement were complicated. The special feature in this paper is to measure various materials, as they stand, minutely in a short time by uning the resonance of solid electrically.

  • This paper studies the applicability of the method of caustics into anisotropic materials under mode I and mixed static loading conditions and introduces the procedure to obtain stress intensity factors(S.I.F.) in anisotropic materials by the method of caustics. The mapping equations for initial and caustic curves in anisotropic materials were introduced and their computer graphical images were compared to the experimental ones to check the validity of the mapping equations proposed in this paper. The agreement between them was found to satisfactory. Two kinds of method to determine S.I.F. in anisotropic materials by the method of caustics were proposed in this paper and applied into the orthotropic materials under various loading conditions. In the case of mode I loading condition, the S.I.F.'s obtained by this paper's methods were found to be quite similar to the results by other method, boundary element method(B.E.M) and in the case of mixed loading condtion, the S.I.F's by this paper and B.E.M. showed a little differences(2.2-24.4%) with respect to the slanted angle of crack.

  • Recently years, these has been considerable interst in analysis of stress under shock wave. Stress wave is important problem for mechanical device and structural design. This paper was studied to develope the finite element program to analysis single materials and composite materials. This paper is studied for the stress wave propagation of single materials and predicted reflection of stress wave in materials. the developed program was able to analysis of stress wave propagation of composite materials and descride reflection of stress wave at contact surface.
