  • This paper presents a experimental study of Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar(ISAR) imaging using Matrix Pencil(MP) method. A series of measurement for two types of target model was done in a Compact Range(CR)facility. The first target is a set of distributed slim cylinders to get a ISAR image of point-like scatterers. The second is UAV model representing a complex real target. The results show that ISAR images by MP method are better than by conventional FFT method under the realistic measurement conditions.

  • In this paper, shows a research in accordance with the design the implementation of the localization system for mobile robot using INS(Inertial Navigation System) and GPS(Global Positioning System). First, a Strapdown Inertial Navigation System : SDINS is designed and implemented for low speed walking robot, by modifying Inertial Navigation System which is widely used for rocket, airplane, ship and so on. In addition, thesis proposes the localization of robot with the method of loosely coupled method by using Kalman Filter with INS/GPS integrated system to utilize assumed position and steed data from GPS.

  • Almost all buildings/infrastructures made of composite materials are fabricated without proper design. Unlike airplane or automobile parts, prototype test is impossible. One cannot destroy 10 story buildings or 100-meter long bridges. People try to build 100-story buildings or several thousand meter long bridges. In order to realize "composites in construction", the following subjects must be studied in detail, for his design. Concept optimization, Simple method of analysis, Folded plate theory, Size effects in failure, and Critical frequency. Unlike the design procedure with conventional materials, his design should include material design, selection of manufacturing methods, and quality control methods, in addition to the fabrication method. In this paper size/scale effects in failure criteria is briefly explained for practicing engineers.engineers.

  • Very Large Floating Structures have been planned for effective utilization of ocean space in recent years. The VLFS usually has a control tower to guide airplane securely. This paper present an effective method for calculating the wave induced hydroelastic responses of VLFS considering the effect of control tower-shapes. The source and dipole distribution method is used to calculate the hydrodynamic loads and equation of motion is derived by considering the static and dynamic coupling effects from different segments of the plate. The rigidity matrix for VLFS is formulated by finite element method using a plate theory. The calculated results for VLFS with a control tower are compared with those for VLFS without a control tower.

  • The length and the breadth or a very large floating airport are determined by airplane types and airport facilities. However, the depth affect not only the structural strength but also the functional requirement such as a possibility of taking off and landing. The optimization problem for determining the depth is to select a design so that the cost is minimized. In this paper, a general arrangement and a method to decide the depth are proposed. Strength, functional requirement, and possibility of occurrence of deck wetness and slamming are considered in order to determine the depth of structure. Hydrodynamic forces of the diffraction and radiatin problems are predicted by applying the source-dipole distribution method, and the structural responses are obtained by the finite element method.

  • The electron beam welding system has the advantages of the high power density, narrow welding section, and small thermal distortion of a workpiece. Recently, the electron beam welding system is widely used to the airplane engineering, nuclear power plant, and automobile industry. In the present paper, the structural analyses on the vacuum chamber of the electron beam welding system are performed by the F.E.M. analysis. The stiffening characteristics on the geometric shape, stiffener height and stiffener span are investigated. The deflection of the stiffened vacuum chamber under pressure is minimized by longitudinal and transverse stiffeners which are continuous in both direction.

  • In modem manufacturing industries such as the airplane and automobile, aluminum alloys which are remarkable in durability have been utilized effectively. High-speed machining technology for surface roughness quality of workpiece has been applied in these fields. Higher cutting speed and feedrates lead to a reduction of machining time and increase of surface quality. Furthermore, the reduction of time required for polishing or lapping of machined surfaces improves the production rate. Traditional milling process for high speed cutting can be machined with end mill tool. However, such processes are generally cost-expensive and have low material removal rate. Thus, in this paper, face milling cutter which gives high MRR has developed face milling cutter body for the high speed machining of light alloy to overcome the problems. Also vibration experiment to detect natural frequency in free state and frequency characteristics during machining are performed to escape resonance.

  • A tilt-rotor aircraft has various flight modes : helicopter, airplane, and conversion. Each of flight mode has unique and nonlinear flight characteristics. Therefore the gain schedules for whole flight envelope are required for effective flight performance. This paper proposes collective, flap, and nacelle angle scheduler for whole flight envelope of the Smart UAV(Unmanned Air Vehicle) based on CAMRAD(Comprehensive Analytical Model of Rotorcraft Aerodynamics and Dynamics) II analysis results. The scheduler designs are improved so that the pitch attitude angle of helicopter mode was minimized. The range of scheduler are reduced inside of engine performance limits. The conversion corridor and rotor governor are suggested also.

  • Human powered aircraft (HPA) is an airplane that uses only human power for its propulsion. The human power as a power resource and an engine produce the available power that is very crucial to the success of the HPA. In the present paper, the human power characteristics for completing the mission profile are discussed focusing on the take-off and climbing performance. The mission profile is designed by using an athlete's power generation. It is believed that present analysis can be helpful for the mission profile design and athletes exercise program development for the HPA competitions.
