Factors Influencing Business Efficiency of Steel Firms: Evidence from Vietnam

  • This study aims to identify and analyze the impact of internal factors on business efficiency of steel firms in Vietnam. The article uses data collected from the financial statements of 26 steel firms operating in Vietnam between 2012 and 2019. With the application of E-view software in quantitative analysis to build regression models on the table data (panel data), and the study has built a regression model identifying the relationship and impact level of internal factors affecting business efficiency of steel firms in Vietnam. In the study, the dependent variable is business efficiency, determined by the profit after tax on the firm's assets. The independent variables are firm size, growth rate, capital structure, ratio of long-term assets, receivables management, and solvency. The research results show that the four factors of firm size, growth rate of assets, receivables management, and solvency have a positive impact on business efficiency, while two factors including capital structure and ratio of long-term assets do not affect business efficiency of enterprises. The results of this article are very useful for corporate executives in general and for financial managers in particular, helping managers make the right financial decisions for the company to promote business efficiency of the company.

Export Performance Analysis of Indonesian Processed Seaweed to The Seven Main Destination Countries from 2010 to 2019

  • Purpose: The research aims to analyze the export performance of processed seaweed, its competitiveness, and determinants on seven main destination countries. Research design, data and methodology: The study uses data of seven main destination countries of Indonesian processed seaweed from 2010 to 2019. For competitiveness analysis, the study uses Revealed Comparative Advantage, Export Product Dynamics, and X-Model of Potential Export Product. Results: The study reveals that the export performance has decreased on all five countries except for Japan and USA. The X-Model analysis shows that the market classification has increased or been stable in every country except for Germany and France. GDP per capita of each destination country and competitiveness index have positive and significance effect while other factors have negative and significance effect. Conclusions: In 2019, Indonesia's processed seaweed market in Japan, United States, and France are on potential market, while Singapore and Italy are on optimistic market. In the future, Indonesia's processed seaweed export can be focused more on countries that have a good market potential. To improve the export volume, GDP per capita of destination country, and competitiveness index of Indonesian processed seaweed should be higher, while export price, economic distance, and real exchange rate should be lower.

복합패널 데이터에 기초한 최소제곱 패널회귀추정량의 설계기반 성질 (Design-Based Properties of Least Square Estimators of Panel Regression Coefficients Based on Complex Panel Data)

  • 본 논문에서는 패널회귀모형에서 회귀계수의 일반최소제곱추정량과 가중최소제곱추정량의 설계기반 성질을 살펴보았다. 복합표본이 주어진 경우에 두 추정량의 설계편향을 구하여 가중최소제곱추정량의 설계편향의 크기가 더 작음을 보였다. 또한 한국복지패널 데이터를 대상으로 모의실험을 실시하여 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 일반최소제곱추정치의 상대편향이 가중최소제곱추정치의 상대편향보다 약 2배 정도 크게 나타났고 일반최소제곱추정치의 편향비가 더 크게 나타났다. 그리고 표본수가 증가하면 일반최소제곱 추정치의 상대편향은 완만하게 줄어든 반면 가중최소제곱추정치의 상대편향은 급속도로 줄어들었다. 둘째, 표본수가 증가하면 일반초소제곱추정치와 가중최소제곱추정치의 분산과 평균제곱오차는 모두 줄어들였다. 그러나 평균제곱오차에서 차지하는 편향제곱의 비율은 표본수가 증가할 때 일반최소제곱추정치에서는 증가하는 반면 가중최소제곱추정치에서는 감소하는 경향이 나타났다. 마지막으로 거의 모든 경우에 일반최소제곱추정치의 분산이 가중최소제곱추정치의 분산보다 작게 나타났다. 그리고 많은 경우에 일반최소제곱추정치의 평균제곱오차가 가중최소제곱추정치의 평균제곱오차보다 작게 나타났다. 그러나 표본수가 증가할수록 일반최소제곱추정치의 평균제곱오차가 가중최소제곱추정치의 평균제곱오차보다 커지는 경우가 늘어났다.

A Study on the Management Efficiency Effect Factor of Korean Ocean Carriers

  • In this study, the current state of management efficiency of ocean carriers in Korea and the factors affecting them were analyzed. The purpose of this research is to enhance global competitiveness of ocean carriers by presenting suggestions that can improve management efficiency based on the analysis results. The measurement of management efficiency was made using the DEA model. The results of testing the adequacy of the input and output variables used are as follows. Appropriate inputs are total assets, cost of goods sold, charter expenses, sales and general management expenses, and interest expenses. Appropriate variables are sales, operating income, and operating cash flow. According to the analysis results of the DEA model by these variables, inefficient carriers (78%) are nearly four times more than efficient carriers(22%). However, container carriers have the most improved management efficiency compared to 2016 and 2017. According to the panel regression analysis, the charter rate has the greatest negative impact on efficiency (CRS), and the debt rate has a significant negative impact. Thus, it appears that reducing the charter size and the debt-to-sale rate facilitate improvement of the management efficiency of ocean carriers. Additionally, the pre-sales tax return rate, value added rate, total asset turnover rate, and the scale variable and interest coverage rate have a positive (+) effect. Thus ocean carriers should restore their global competitiveness by improving management efficiency by securing stable cargoes increasing sales profitability from the cost management perspective, increasing productivity, and enhancing the efficiency of their total assets through efficient fleet management.

노동시장 이중구조가 노동생산성에 미치는 영향: OECD 국가를 중심으로 (The Impact of Dual Labor Markets on Labor Productivity: Evidence from the OECD)

  • 본고에서는 OECD 회원국(2018년 현재 총 36개국) 중 29개국을 대상으로 상용직·임시직 고용비중 변화가 노동생산성에 미치는 영향을 실증 분석하였다. 이 때 자영업자도 함께 고려함으로써 상용직 및 임시직 대비 노동생산성을 비교하였다. 구체적으로는 1990-2015년 동안 OECD 29개국의 국가별 불균형(unbalanced) 패널자료를 이용하여 통상최소자승법(OLS), 고정효과(fixed effect) 분석, 일반화된 적률법(이하 GMM), 동태적 패널 GMM 등 다양한 방법으로 고용형태 변화가 노동생산성에 미치는 영향을 추정하였다. 분석 결과를 보면, 각 추정 방법에 따라 약간 차이는 있으나 상용직 비중 증가가 노동생산성 증대에 미치는 영향이 가장 높았으며 그 다음이 자영업, 임시직 순으로 나타났다. 특히 임시직 근로자 비중이 노동생산성에 미치는 영향은 상용직에 비해 상당 폭 낮은 것으로 추정되었다. 이러한 결과는 노동시장 이중구조가 심화되면 노동생산성에 부정적 영향을 미칠 가능성이 있음을 시사한다.

뇌혈관질환자의 미 충족 의료에 미치는 영향요인 연구 (Study of the Factors affecting Unmet Medical Needs in Patients with Cerebrovascular Diseases)

  • 본 연구는 뇌혈관질환자의 미 충족 의료 발생의 위험요인을 실증하기 위한 연구이다. 이를 위해 2014년 한국의료패널 데이터를 활용해 SPSS/WIN24.0 프로그램으로 위계적 로지스틱 회귀분석을 적용하여 통계 분석을 실시하였다. Anderson 모형에 따라 소인 요인과 가능 요인을 보정해 필요 요인을 투입한 위계적 로지스틱 회귀분석의 최종 모델에서 미 충족 의료 발생에 영향을 미치는 설명변수로서 성별, 경제활동 여부, 소득, 와병 경험, 활동제한 여부, 주관적 건강상태, 만성질환 개수가 유의한 영향변수로 검증되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 뇌혈관질환의 효과적인 관리와 치료에 필요한 실무적 정책적 시사점으로서 뇌혈관질환자의 미 충족 의료 발생률을 감소시키기 위한 전략적 방안을 뇌혈관질환 관리 대책에 포함시켜야 할 필요성, 뇌혈관질환자의 의료적 필요 충족을 위해 다양한 차원의 변수들을 고려한 포괄적 대책 마련의 필요성, 미 충족 의료 발생의 유의한 영향변수들을 중심으로 의료서비스에 대한 접근성을 높일 수 있는 구체화된 서비스 매뉴얼 제작의 필요성에 대해 제언하였다.

다문화가정의 한의의료이용에 미치는 요인 분석 연구 (Analysis of factors affecting Korean Medicine utilization of multicultural family members)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the Korean medical utilization and Korean medical expenses by characteristics of multicultural family members to investigate whether it affects Korean medical utilization. Methods: This study utilized The Korea Health Panel data in 2018, with 238 final participants. We performed a t-test and ANOVA on the difference between Korean medical utilization and Korean medical expenses according to Anderson's Model of Health Service Utilization variables. Logistic regression analysis and generalized linear model analysis were conducted to analyze Korean medical utilization factors. Results: The Korean Medical utilization was 12.61% among the multicultural family members. As a result of regression analysis, the female had high Korean medical utilization(p=.008), and rural area residents had low utilization(p=.017). Korean medical expenses were high when they were female or married. Including the utilization of western medical services by outpatients, Korean medical expenses were high when they were female or outpatients who received western medical services. Conclusions: As a result of this study, the factors influencing Korean medical utilization were gender and residence area. There were differences in Korean medical expenses depending on western medical services use or gender. Therefore, it is necessary to use these factors to expand the Korean Medical utilization by multicultural family members, and research of the Korean medical utilization by disease is needed.

중소기업 재직자들의 교육훈련에 대한 인지된 유용성이 교육 훈련 만족도에 미치는 영향: 인사부서 활동의 조절효과 (The Perceived Utility of Education and Training in SMEs on Employee Satisfaction: The Moderating Role of HRM Department Activities)

  • Purpose - Drawing on the content-process approach, this study examines the effect of employees' perceived utility of education and training in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on their satisfaction. In addition, this study investigates how the human resource management department' activities moderate the relationship between employees' perceived utility of education and training and satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach - This study predicts the positive relationship between employees' perceived utility of education and training and satisfaction, and HR activities strengthens this positive relationship. To test these hypotheses, this study utilized Human Capital Corporate Panel (HCCP) datasets, especially 2017 data at the individual level. The number of the final sample is 425 for the test. Moreover, this study used the hierarchical regression model with SPSS. Finding - As predicted, the analytical results with the hierarchical regression model showed that employees' percieved utility of education and training and satisfaction were positively related. In addition, HR activities strengthened this relationship between employees' percieved utility of education and training and satisfaction. Research implications or Originality - This study will provide academic and practical implications for future research on human resource development, especially SMEs by deepening an understanding of the important factors in order to increase employees' satisfaction of education and training. the number of viewers is found in most American films released in Korea.

청소년의 학업스트레스와 정신건강 : 자기통제 및 감정조절의 역할 (Academic Stress and Mental Health of Adolescents : The Role of Self-control and Emotion Regulation)

  • This study examined the moderating role of self-control and emotion regulation in the relationship between academic stress and mental health among Korean adolescents. The Korean Youth Panel Study (KYPS) was used as sample data with a total of 3121 $11^{th}$ grade students involved in this study. Hierarchical multiple regression was applied to test the moderation model following Baron & Kenny's (1986) model. Results revealed that self-control (for male adolescents) and emotion regulation (for female adolescents) played the role of moderators in the relationship between academic stress and mental health problems. Academic stress proved to have a negative effect on mental health of adolescents.

사업체 규모에 따른 근로자 건강수준의 불평등: 제17차 한국노동패널 자료 이용 (Health Disparities among Korean Workers by Enterprise Size: Using Korean Labor and Income Panel Study (17th))

  • Purpose: This study aims to investigate the cross-sectional association of company size and self-rated health using representative data on Korean workers. Methods: We used the data from 2,884 wage workers collected by Korean Labor and Income Panel Study (17th). The association between company size and self-rated health was analyzed using logistic regression with covariates including demographic characteristics, work environment, job satisfaction, and health-related behaviors. Resulst: Odds ratio (OR) for better health status among workers in large-sized company was 1.351 (CI. 1.054~1.731), compared to workers in small-sized company. We performed three separate models stratified by firm size (small, medium, and large companies). Occupation variables showed different effect on health depending on firm sizes. OR for better health of white-color job (referred to blue-color job) was 1.693 in medium-sized company model but it was 0.615 in large company model. OR for better health of the workers working shift work showed 0.606 in large company model but it was not significant in small and medium company models. Conclusion: We found that small-sized company workers have significantly poor self-rated health compared to large-sized firm workers. This study revealed that there exist differences among health related factors depending on firm sizes.
