Matrix Modification for Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric Determination of Trace Manganese in Seaweeds (해조류중 흔적량 망간의 전열원자흡수 분광광도법 정량을 위한 매트릭스 개선에 관한 연구)

  • A matrix modification was studied for the determination of trace manganese in several seaweeds by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrophotometry(ETAAS). The type and quantity of modifiers were investigated to realize the efficient modification. Palladium was chosen as a single modifier. By the addition of palladium(5$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$) to 2ng/$m\ell$ manganese solution, the temperatures were raised from 1,00$0^{\circ}C$ to 1,20$0^{\circ}C$ for the charring and from 2,10$0^{\circ}C$ to 2,20$0^{\circ}C$ for the atomization as well as the sensitivity and reproducibility were improved. With such optimum conditions, the trace amount of manganese in several seaweeds(laver, tangle and brown seaweed) could be determined by a calibration curve method, and good recoveries of more than 965 were also obtained in the samples in which a given amount of manganese was spiked. The detection limit of this method was about 0.048ng/$m\ell$.

The Performance of Photocatalyst filter for an Air Cleaner-Effect of novel metal (공기정화기용 광촉매 필터의 성능-귀금속 담지 영향)

  • This work examined improving the activity of photocatalyts by novel metal doping for the degradation of volatile organic compounds, such as formaldehyde and acetone. The activity was determined with type of dopant novel metal and volatile organic compounds. The palladium-doped $TiO_2$ was found to be improved the decomposition of acetone. The photocatalytic degradation rate for acetone was increased with decreasing temperature to $45^{\circ}C$. The optmum temperature of photocatalytic degradation rate for formaldehyde was $75^{\circ}C$. The enhancement of reaction rate with novel metal were 1.0 wt.% of palladium for acetone, 1.0 wt.% of plaitnum for formaldehyde.

  • Palladium on carbon catalysts for hexafluoropropylene hydrogenation were prepared using imidazolium hexafluorophosphate with various cation parts. The morphology of palladium was relatively affected by the cation parts of the ionic liquid. With increasing alkyl chains of the ionic liquid cation, the shape of palladium particle changed from spherical to cylindrical due to the effect of steric stabilization. After calcination at $500^{\circ}C$, all catalysts possessed the comparable crystal structure. Under the identical reaction conditions, the catalyst prepared using the ionic liquid with hexyl chain in cation parts showed the most effective reactivity.

  • Novel mononuclear metal complexes with the formula $[M(Ph_2PC_6H_4NC_3H_6NC_6H_4PPh_2)]$ (M=Pd (1); M=Pt (2)) were obtained when N,N'-bis[2'-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]propane-1,3-diamine, I was mixed with cisdichlorobis(diethylsulfide)palladium and platinum in the presence of NEt3. Two mononuclear metal compounds with the fomula [M(Ph2PC6H4NH)(SEt2)Cl] (M=Pd (3); M=Pt (4)) were synthesized from $M(SEt_2)2Cl_2$ and N-(2'-diphenylphosphinophenyl)-4-amino-1,1,1,5,5, 5-hexafluoro-3-penten-2-one, II by the elimination reaction of hexafluoro pentenone. The X-ray single crystal structures of 1 and 4 are described. X-ray single crystal diffraction analyses reveal that compound 1 is a mononuclear palladium compound with P,N,N,P-coordination mode and 4 is a mononuclear platinum compound with P,N-coordination mode.

  • This article aims to summarize the recycling status of scrap gold, silver, platinum, and palladium by regions and industries in order to utilize the data for securing raw materials of the domestic urban mining industry. The amount of gold from scrap has shown a tendency to decrease in countries other than China over the last ten years, which is attributed to the increase in scrap containing gold in China. The industry demand for gold is the highest in electronic products, but it is decreasing. The amount of scrap recycling for silver has declined but total silver production has increased by increasing mine products. As production and demand from platinum and palladium scrap are mostly for catalysts, their demand could be affected by the electric vehicle industry.

Comparative analysis on mechanical properties of gold and Co-Cr dental alloys due to joining methods (이종금속간의 결합방법에 따른 결합강도에 관한 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate their mechanical properties after laser-welding or soldering of precious and non-precious dental alloys. For this study, 30 Co-Cr alloy specimens, 15 gold alloy specimens, 15 palladium alloy specimens were casted and seperated on the middle area. 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 seperated gold alloy specimens were laser welded (GW Group). 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 sperated gold alloy specimens were soldered by coventional soldering method (GS Group). 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 seperated palladium alloy specimens were laser welded (PW Group). 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 sperated palladium alloy specimens were soldered by coventional soldering method (PS Group). Tensile strength, 0.2% yield strength, % elongation were recorded in nine specimens of each group. Bending strength were record in six specimens of each group. These data for four groups were subjected to a two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA). The fracture locations, fractured surfaces were examined by SEM(scanning electron microscope). The results were as following: 1) In the same alloy combination, the tensile strength and 0.2% yield strength and of the laser welded group with same metal combination were significantly less than soldered groups(p<0.05). 2) In the combination of Co-Cr/Palladium, the bending strength of laser welded group were significantly less than that of soldered groups(p<0.05). In the combination of Co-Cr/Gold, the bending strength of laser welded group were significantly higher than that of soldered groups(p<0.05). 3) In the same method of joint, the tensile strength and 0.2% yield strength and bending strength of the Co-Cr/gold were significantly higher than Co-Cr/palladium(p<0.05). 4) There was no significantly statistical difference between each group in the % elongation(p>0.05). 5) The fracture of the laser welded specimens occured in the welding area and a large void was observed at the center of the fracture surface. 6) The fracture of the soldered specimens occured also inthe soldered area and many porpsities were showed at the fracture sites.

THE EFFECT OF GOLD ELECTROFORMING PROCEDURE ON GOLD-SILVER-PALLADIUM ALLOY

  • Statement of problem. The effect of gold electroforming on gold alloy was not studied. Purpose. This in vitro study investigate the effect of gold electroforming on gold-silver-palladium alloy. Material and methods. Three pieces of gold strips had undergone the electroforming procedures on one side and then half of the side again electroformed. The set mode for this study was program 1 ($200{\mu}m$). And the processing time was 15min (1/20 time to form $200{\mu}m$ coping). The confocal laser scanning microscope (PASCAL 5, Carl Zeiss, Bernried, Germany) was used to measure the thickness of the pure gold layer electroformed on the gold strips. Half of the gold strip was coated two times with electroformed gold, and the other half one time. The data from the cone focal laser system was processed to get the vertical profile of the strips and the difference of the vertical height between the double coated and single coated layer was regarded as the thickness of the gold coating. The layer thickness value to built 3D image of the cone-focal laser was set $0.5{\mu}m$. Next to the measurement of the thickness of the coating, the Vicker's hardness test was done. It was performed on the double coated surface, single coated surface and non-coated surface (back side) three times each. Results. The mean thickness value gained from gold electroforming technique was measured to be $22{\mu}m$ for sample 1, $23{\mu}m$ for sample 2, $21{\mu}m$ for sample 3. In the same condition of time, power and the amount of electrolyte, the data showed no difference between samples. According to the results of variance analysis, the differences among the variations in number of coating were statistically insignificant (p>0.05), meaning that the two times of gold electroforming coating did not change the hardness of gold-silver-palladium alloy. Conclusion. The test of thickness of gold coating proved the coherency of the gold electroforming procedure, in other words, when the power, the exposed surface area, processing time and the amount of electrolytes were set same, the same thickness of gold would be coated on. The hardness test showed that the electroformed gold coating did not change the hardness of the gold-silver-palladium alloy when it is coated not more than $45{\mu}m$.
