  • The catalytic enantioselective electrophilic fluorinations of active methine compounds promoted chiral palladium complexes have been developed. Treatment of $\beta$-keto phosphonates and $\beta$-ketoesters with N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide as the fluorine source under mild reaction conditions afforded the corresponding $\alpha$-fluorinated adducts in high yields with excellent enantiomeric excesses (up to 99% ee). These reactions can be conducted in alcoholic solvents without any precaution to exclude water and moisture.

  • This account reports an overview of our findings in homogeneous Pd-catalyzed reactions. Herein we describe the new design in reactions of Group 14 element compounds and in homogeneous nanosize Pd catalysts. In the early stages of our study, we developed Pd-catalyzed transformations of allylic esters with disilanes, silylcyanides and acylsilanes to the corresponding silylation, cyanation and acylation products, respectively. We also developed a Pd-catalyzed three component coupling reaction of Group 14 element compounds involving 1,3-diene and acid chlorides to form β,γ-unsaturated ketone as a single product. Recently, we focus our attention on modifying the catalytic environment by nanosize Pd in order to improve the performance of Pd catalysts. These nanosystems realize efficient catalytic environment with remarkable enhancement in catalytic activity and unprecedented selectivity.

  • Tetracyclic 5-azaindole analogues were prepared by palladium-catalyzed sequential annulation of benzylidene(3-iodopyridinyl-4-yl)amine and 1-aryl substituted internal alkynes under $Pd(OAc)_2,\;n-Bu_4NCl,\;and Et_3N\;at\;120^{\circ}C.$ The synthetic procedure showed possible diversification of tetracyclic 5-azaindole analogues by varying the 1-aryl substituent in internal alkynes.

  • Low cost composite metallic membranes for the hydrogen separation and production have been prepared by using thin Pd-Ag foils reinforced by metallic (stainless steel and nickel) structures. Especially, “supported membranes” have been obtained by a diffusion welding procedure in which Pd-Ag thin foils have been joined with perforated metals (nickel) and expanded metals (stainless steel): in these membranes the thin palladium foil assures both the high hydrogen permeability and the perm-selectivity while the metallic support provides the mechanical strength. A second studied method of producing "laminated membranes" consists of coating non-noble metal sheets with very thin palladium layers by diffusion welding and cold-rolling. Palladium thin coatings over these metals reduce the activation energy of the hydrogen adsorption process and make them permeable to the hydrogen. In this case, the dense non-noble metal has been used as a support structure of the thin Pd-Ag layers coated over its surfaces: a proper thickness of the metal assures the mechanical strength, the absence of defects (cracks, micro-holes) and the complete hydrogen selectivity of the membrane. membrane.

  • Pd/MWCNT/$TiO_2$ composites were synthesized by a sol-gel technique using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), palladium (II) chlorite ($PdCl_2$) and titanium tetrachloride ($TiCl_4$) as the carbon, palladium and titanium precursors. The Pd/MWCNT/$TiO_2$ composites prepared were characterized by BET surface area measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The photocatalytic activity of the composites was evaluated using the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV and visible light irradiation as a model.

  • This paper describes the development of a glucose biosensor based on ion sensitive field effect transistor(ISFET) with a palladium(Pd) modified ion sensing membrane. By adopting Pd as a hydrogen sensitive layer and integrating a screen-printed reference electrode, the sensitivity and stability were considerably improved due to the high permeability and selectivity of the Pd hydrogen selective membrane. This paper suggests a new approach for realizing portable and highly sensitive glucose sensors for diagnosing and treating diabetes mellitus.

  • Graphene and graphene oxide (GO) have been modified with palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) to develop high performance catalysts for the Sonogashira cross coupling reaction. To understand catalytic performance of Pd NPs on graphene (Pd/G) and Pd NPs on GO (Pd/GO), we monitored their morphological and electronic structural changes before/after Sonogashira reaction using FT-IR, XRD, XPS, and XAFS. Here, we demonstrate that both Pd/G and Pd/GO show high catalytic efficiency toward the Sonogashira reaction, but only Pd/GO revealed excellent recyclability. The remarkable catalytic efficiency of both catalysts is attributed to the high degree of the Pd NP dispersions on supports and thus smaller Pd NPs can provide highly reactive low coordinated Pd atoms. However, we attributed the excellent recyclability of Pd/GO to the presence of oxygen functionalities on GO, which can provide nucleation sites for the detached Pd atoms during the Sonogashira reaction and prevent agglomeration of the Pd NPs since the oxygen functional groups are very reactive to mobile Pd adatoms.

  • Nature of palladium(Ⅱ) complexes with 7-membered chelates was studied by experimental and theoretical methods on a Pd(L)Cl2 system, where L is Ph2PNHCH2CH2NHPPh2(L1), Ph2PNHC6H4NHPPh2(L2). The palladium(Ⅱ) complexes were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV, 1H, and 31P NMR spectroscopy.
