  • This paper presents chunking strategy of a contiguous nouns sequence using semantic class. We call contiguous nouns which can be treated like a noun the compound noun phrase. We use noun pairs extracted from a syntactic tagged corpus and their semantic class pairs for chunking of the compound noun phrase. For reliability, these noun pairs and semantic classes are built from a syntactic tagged corpus and detailed dictionary in the Sejong corpus. The compound noun phrase of arbitrary length can also be chunked by these information. The 38,940 pairs of 'left noun - right noun', 65,629 pairs of 'left noun - semantic class of right noun', 46,094 pairs of 'semantic class of left noun - right noun', and 45,243 pairs of 'semantic class of left noun - semantic class of right noun' are used for compound noun phrase chunking. The test data are untrained 1,000 sentences with contiguous nouns of length more than 2randomly selected from Sejong morphological tagged corpus. Our experimental result is 86.89% precision, 80.48% recall, and 83.56% f-measure.

  • Objective: To investigate differences in the heritability of skeletodental characteristics between twin pairs with skeletal Class I and Class II malocclusions. Methods: Forty Korean adult twin pairs were divided into Class I (C-I) group (0° ≤ angle between point A, nasion, and point B [ANB]) ≤ 4°; mean age, 40.7 years) and Class II (C-II) group (ANB > 4°; mean age, 43.0 years). Each group comprised 14 monozygotic and 6 dizygotic twin pairs. Thirty-three cephalometric variables were measured using lateral cephalograms and were categorized as the anteroposterior, vertical, dental, mandible, and cranial base characteristics. The ACE model was used to calculate heritability (A > 0.7, high heritability). Thereafter, principal component analysis (PCA) was performed. Results: Twin pairs in C-I group exhibited high heritability values in the facial anteroposterior characteristics, inclination of the maxillary and mandibular incisors, mandibular body length, and cranial base angles. Twin pairs in C-II group showed high heritability values in vertical facial height, ramus height, effective mandibular length, and cranial base length. PCA extracted eight components with 88.3% in the C-I group and seven components with 91.0% cumulative explanation in the C-II group. Conclusions: Differences in the heritability of skeletodental characteristics between twin pairs with skeletal Class I and II malocclusions might provide valuable information for growth prediction and treatment planning.

  • Dolomedes spiders of the family Pisauridae are one of free wandering spiders with semi-aquatic habitation. They do not build web for prey-hunting but build a nursery web for spiderlings. This paper describes the fine structure of the silkspinning spigots of the fishing spider Dolomedes sulfureus revealed by the field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The fishing spider Dolomedes sulfureus possesses only three types of silk glands which connected through the typical spinning tubes on the spinnerets. The silk spigots of this spider were identified as three groups: ampullates, pyriforms and aciniforms. Two pairs of major ampullate glands send secretory ductules to the anterior spinnerets, and another two pairs (or $1{\sim}2$ pairs in males) of minor ampullate glands supply the middle spinnerets. In addition, the pyriform glands feed silk into the anterior spinnerets ($62{\sim}68$ pairs in females and $45{\sim}50$ pairs in males), and the aciniforms send ductules to the middle ($33{\sim}40$ pairs in females and $18{\sim}25$ pairs in males) and the posterior spinnerets ($42{\sim}50$ pairs in females and $24{\sim}28$ pairs in males). Among these, the ampullate one is the most predominate gland in both sexes.

  • The spinning apparatus and production of secretory silk from silk gland of the black widow spider, Latrodectus mactans were studied with scanning and transmission electron microscopes. The silk glands were located in seven groups on the spinnerets including each pair of major and minor ampullate, 3 pairs of tubuliform, 1 pair of flagelliform, 2 pairs of aggregate, about 50 pairs of pyriform and over 250 pairs of aciniform glands, respect- ively. Each group of silk gland feeds silk into one of the three spinneret pairs. Secretory silk is synthesized from rough endoplasmic reticulum (rER) of glandular epithelial cells. The secretory silk is transported from toe rER into the secretory vacuoles which are grown up by fusion with the surrounding small vesicles including the secretory silk. The secretory vacuoles, which show a gradual increase in electron density with the process of maturity, are formed without involvement of the Golgi complex, suggesting that they do not play an important role in the processing of the secretory silk. The secretory silk products are released by the mechanism of apocrine secretion, losing part of their cytoplasm. Moreover, another type of silk precursor, possibly protein, appears as granular material, and is also discharged to the luminal cavity.

  • Motivation: Protein-protein interaction plays a critical role in the biological processes. The identification of interacting proteins by bioinformatical methods can provide new lead In the functional studies of uncharacterized proteins without performing extensive experiments. Results: Protein-protein interactions are predicted by a computational algorithm based on the weighted scoring system for domain interactions between interacting protein pairs. Here we propose potential interaction domain (PID) pairs can be extracted from a data set of experimentally identified interacting protein pairs. where one protein contains a domain and its interacting protein contains the other. Every combinations of PID are summarized in a matrix table termed the PID matrix, and this matrix has proposed to be used for prediction of interactions. The database of interacting proteins (DIP) has used as a source of interacting protein pairs and InterPro, an integrated database of protein families, domains and functional sites, has used for defining domains in interacting pairs. A statistical scoring system. named "PID matrix score" has designed and applied as a measure of interaction probability between domains. Cross-validation has been performed with subsets of DIP data to evaluate the prediction accuracy of PID matrix. The prediction system gives about 50% of sensitivity and 98% of specificity, Based on the PID matrix, we develop a system providing several interaction information-finding services in the Internet. The system, named PreDIN (Prediction-oriented Database of Interaction Network) provides interacting domain finding services and interacting protein finding services. It is demonstrated that mapping of the genome-wide interaction network can be achieved by using the PreDIN system. This system can be also used as a new tool for functional prediction of unknown proteins.

  • In the most cases of eigen value problems in the social sciences, the object matrix to analyze is real-valued symmetric matrix. And many cases of eigen value problems in this field needs 2-4 eigen pairs according to the magnitude of their absolute values. The methods to obtain eigen pairs by numerical computation using computer, we would face the problem of round off error because matrix computation needs a number of calculations. In this paper, an algorithm which make us to get some needed eigcn pairs according to the magnitude of their absolute values is designed. And in this algorithm, the power method is used to obtain some eigen pairs. This algorithm is expected to be effective by the reduction of the number of calculations.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm for determination of many-to-many corresponding pairs between block-polygon sets from the national topographical map and the cadastral map in Korea Land Information System, caused by different abstraction and generalization rules of the two maps. Our proposed algorithm starts from an assumption that a block-polygon for a N:M pair should significantly overlap at least one block polygon of the counterpart group, and determines N:M pairs using an iterative updating and searching with this overlapping analysis. This iteration process is terminated when the N:M corresponding pairs satisfy our predefined 1:1 corresponding condition.

  • To assess the merits and demerits of postcontrast fat-suppressed (FS) brain MR imaging in children in the evaluation of various enhancing lesions, compared with postcontrast conventional or Magnetization Transfer (MT) imaging. 대상 및 방법: We reviewed patients with enhancing lesion on brain MR imaging who underwent both FS imaging and one of conventional or MT imaging as a postcontrast T1-weighted brain MR imaging. Inclusion criteria of our study were as follows: MR studies should be peformed within one-year interval and showed no significant interval change of imaging findings. Thirty-four patients (21 male, 13 female; mean age, 8 years) with 43 enhancing lesions (19 intra-axial, 19 extra-axial, and 5 orbital location) were included in this study, Twenty-one pairs of FS and conventional imaging, and 15 pairs of FS and MT imaging were available. Two radiologists visually assessed the lesion conspicuity and the presence of flow or susceptibility artifacts in a total of 36 pairs of MR imaging by consensus. For 21 measurable lesions (19 pairs of FS and conventional imaging, 5 pairs of FS and MR imaging), contrast ratio between the lesion and the normal brain( [SIlesion-SIwater]/[SInormal brain-SIwater]) were calculated and compared.

  • Vacancy defects in graphene can be created by electron or ion irradiation and those induce ripples which can change the electronic properties of graphene. Recently, the formation of defect structures such as vacancy defects and non-hexagonal rings has been reported in the high resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM) of reduced graphene oxide [1]. In those HR-TEM images, it is noticed that the dislocations with pentagon-heptagon (5-7) pairs are formed and diffuses. Interestingly, it is also observed that two 5-7 pairs are separated and diffuse far away from each other. The separation of 5-7 pairs has been known to be due to their self-diffusion. However, from our tight-binding molecular dynamics simulation, it is found that the separation of 5-7 pairs is due to the diffusion of single vacancy defects and coalescence with 5-7 pairs. The diffusion and coalescence of single vacancy defects is too fast to be observed even in HR-TEM. We also implemented Van der Waals interaction in our tight-binding carbon model to describe correctly bi-layer and multi-layer graphene. The compressibility of graphite along c-axis in our tight-binding calculation is found to be in excellent agreement with experiment. We also discuss the difference between single layer and bi-layer graphene about vacancy diffusion and reconstruction.

  • Today, the research to examine a fact that interaction between the air and the fluid free surface affects the steady state flow and air. We proved the interaction between vortex pairs and free surface on each condition that is created by the end of delta wings. another purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of surface active material which can change the surface tension and we must consider when we refer to turbulent flow on surface tension. therefore, this research examined the growth process of vortex pairs on condition of clean, contaminated free surface and wall after we made vortex pairs through counter rotating flaps. The results of this study suggest that vortex pairs in clean free surface rise safely but the vortex pairs in contaminated free surface and rigid, no slip is made secondary vortex or rebounding. However the secondary vortex in rigid, no slip is stronger than before, and we can find the vortex shape which roll up more completely. However, these will disappear by the effect of wall.
