  • Purpose: To compare ultrasonographic size of morton's neuroma measured to actual size. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two (twenty-eight patients) of symptomic Morton's neuroma were measured by ultrasonography preoperatively and by manual method that designed by authors intraoperatively from January, 2002 to May, 2003. Two results were stastically compared by paired T-test. Results: Except one, all of cases were women and the mean age of patients was 50.6 years (32-62 years). The most common associated disease was hallux valgus deformity (17 cases). Six of Morton's neuromas located on second intermetatarsal space, sixteen of them did third intemetatarsal space and ten of neuromas located simultaneously second and third intermetatarsal space. The ultrasonographic size of neuroma averaged 3.48 mm and real size was 3.99 mm. The size checked by manual method was larger than by ultrasound with statical meaning. Conclusion: The size of Morton's interdigital neuroma checked by ultrasonography on plantar aspect is smaller than real size. If you checked Morton's interdigital neuroma size by ultrasonography, you can suspect that real size of Morton's interdigital neuroma is larger than that size.

  • The main objectives of this study were to know the prevalence of cerebrovascular diseases, to find the important risk factors of cerebrovascular diseases. This study is a part of Eumseong Community Health Project supportes by GTZ(West German Goverment). 116 perceived cases of cerebrovascular diseases were first screened by health interview and examinations and 80 cases were diagnosed as a cerebrovascular group. For comparison, 80 cases were matched with their neighbor controls of the same sex and the similar age. 1. The prevalence rate for cerebrovascular diseases was 476.3 per 100,000 population which is considered to be very high compared with that of other countries. Age adjusted rate for cerebrovascular diseases was 261.6 per 100,000. 2. Among the risk factors examined for the association with cerebrovascular diseases by case-control study, and analysed by paired marginal test(McNemar's $X^2$-test) and odds ratio, only hypertension showed high significant statistical association.

  • Recently, apartment-remodeling project is booming since various reconstruction controls are tightened. However, the project has difficulties because management systems used for apartment-remodeling projects are not available. Identifying and analyzing risk factors that are required for risk management, this paper suggests the risk level through paired comparison performed by AHP method and probability assessment for risk level analysis. It is expected that this research will be utilized to minimize the risk of apartment remodeling project and for basic materials to perform the project and helpful to change newly build-oriented construction into sustainable industries. Hereafter using the risk factor analysis data of this paper for this research project, risk management model is considered to be constructed.

  • Exposure level of respirable coal dust of underground coal mines in Taebaek area was evaluated. Personal air samplers with 10-mm nylone cyclones were attached to the coal workers including drillers, coal cutters, their assistants, haulers, and separators. Log-normality of respirable dust exposure concentration were tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov one-sample test. Differences of means of respirable dust exposure concentration between work sites were tested by one-way ANOVA test and multiple comparison(Scheffe) test. And differences of respirable dust exposure concentration of principal and assistant workers in drilling sites and in coal faces were tested by paired t-test. Relation of respirable dust exposure concentration for the principal workers and their assistants in drilling sites and in coal faces were tested by regression analysis. The results were as follows : 1. All of the respirable dust concentration were log-normally distributed. 2. There were not only significantly different means of exposure concentration between drillers and coal cutters but between coal cutters and haulers. 3. Means of exposure concentration of drillers and drilling assistants were not significantly different. And means of exposure concentration of coal cutters and coal cutting assistants were not different.
