  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the change in thickness of transvers abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique when virtual reality based ring fit adventure is applied to young adults in order to investigate the effect of ring fit adventure on core stabilization. Methods : 30 subjects participated in the experiment. Subjects were randomly assigned to two groups. 15 subjects performed ring fit adventure core exercise (experimental group) and 15 subjects bridge and dead bug exercise (control group). The ring fit adventure core exercise program consists of 6 types, 1) bow pull, 2) overhead lunge twist, 3) pendulum bend, 4) seated ring raise, 5) plank, 6) warrior III pose. Each exercise was performed for 5 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes. The bridege and dead bug exercise were performed for 15 minutes each for a total of 30 minutes. All interventions were performed 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Thickness of the abdominal muscles was measured with a ultrasound. The paired t-test was used to compare the thickness of the transverse abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique before and after intervention, and the comparison between groups was analyzed using the independent t-test. Results : As a result, in the experimental group, thickness of transverse abdominis and internal oblique increased significantly (p<.05), but external oblique decreased significantly (p<.05), and in the control group, thickness of transverse abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique increased significantly (p<.05). There was a significant difference in external oblique in the difference between groups (p<.05). Conclusion : These study results showed that core exercise using ring fit adventure can reduce external oblique and increased selective muscle activity of transverse abdominis and internal oblique of the deep abdominal muscles, so it is meaningful as an effective intervention for core stabilization.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the asymmetrical difference between the use of leg muscles on the surgical and non-surgical sides during initial lower extremity ergometer exercise after unilateral knee arthroplasty. Methods: Twelve elderly patients diagnosed with degenerative arthritis of the knee and who underwent unilateral arthroplasty were included in this study. The leg length of each subject was taken into account when setting the application distance of the lower extremity ergometer. The same pedal resistance, strength, and speed were used for all the subjects. The total angle of use of the ergometer (360°) was analyzed by dividing it into an extension section and a flexion section. Using a surface electromyography system, the activities of the muscles of the surgical and non-surgical sides were converted into maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) and analyzed using the paired t-test. Results: When the activities of the muscles on the surgical and non-surgical sides were compared, it was found that the rectus femoris and biceps femoris had significant differences in the flexion and extension sections (p < .05), and that the tibialis anterior significantly differed in the flexion section (p < .05). There was no significant difference in the extension section of the tibialis anterior muscle, or in the flexion and extension sections of the gastrocnemius (p >.05). Conclusion: The results of this study confirm that the rectus femoris, tibialis anterior, biceps femoris, and gastrocnemius on the surgical side act in an opposite manner to those on the non-surgical side during pedaling in the same section.

  • There are various approaches to treatment for patients with fully edentulous jaw. In maxilla, it is easy to obtain sufficient stability, support, and retention with the traditional full denture method. In mandible, however, there are difficulties caused by anatomical limitations. In this case, treatment with implants can be considered. If it is difficult to place implants in posterior area, a fixed complete denture can be considered, using 4 - 5 implants anterior to mental foramen. This approach has changed in many ways, such as surgical methods and materials used, over the years. This case report compares two approaches and their changes over time, especially in the cases of mandibular fixed prostheses using implants, paired with maxillary complete denture.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare marbling score, meat quality, juiciness, sarcomere length, and skeletal muscle satellite cell (SMSC) growth and related gene expression between Woori black pig (WB) and the Landrace, Yorkshire, and Duroc (LYD) crossbreed at different body weights (b.w.). WB was developed to improve meat quality and growth efficiency by crossbreeding Duroc with Korean native black pig. A total of 24 pigs were sacrificed when their b.w. reached about 50, 75, 100, and 120 kg. SMSC were isolated from the femoris muscles, and muscle and adipose tissues were sampled from the middle and the subcutaneous part of the femoris of hind legs, respectively. Expression levels of genes including Myoblast determination protein 1 (MyoD), Paired box gene 3 (Pax3), Myosin heavy chain (MyHC), and Myogenin, which are responsible for the growth and development of SMSC, were higher in LYD than the WB. Muscle growth inhibitor myostatin (MSTN), however, was expressed more in WB compared to LYD (p < 0.01). Numbers of SMSC extracted from femoris muscle of LYD at 50, 75, 100, and 120 kg b.w. were 8.5 ± 0.223, 8.6 ± 0.245, 7.2 ± 0.249, and 10.9 ± 0.795, and those from WB were 6.2 ± 0.32, 6.2 ± 0.374, 5.3 ± 0.423, and 17.1 ± 0.315, respectively. Expression of adipogenic genes in adipose tissue including CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein (CEBP)-β, peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR)-γ, and fatty acid synthase (FASN), were greater in WB when compared with LYD (p < 0.01). Results from the current study suggest that different muscle cell numbers between 2 different breeds might be affected by related gene expression and this warrants further investigation on other growth factors regulating animal growth and development.

  • Background: Equating is a statistical procedure used to create a common measurement scale across two instruments. Item-level information should be taken into consideration so that scores can communicate interchangeably across the instruments. Objects: To investigate a common measurement scale across two health-related quality of life questionnaires (HRQOL) applied to various cancer survivors who underwent palliative care in healthcare institutions. Methods: A total of 139 cancer survivors who underwent palliative care were recruited from two rehabilitation hospitals and an oriental medicine hospital. Participants consisted of various cancer survivors who presented to the sites for palliative care. They were asked to fill out Korean versions of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) and EuroQOL-5 dimension (EQ-5D) questionnaires following the palliative care. For the item level comparison, the Rasch rating scale model was used to investigate how participants regarded individual test items of two instruments in relation to item difficulty calibrations. Results: All items except the three items fit the Rasch model. One item (anxiety/depression) of the EQ-5D and two items (dependence on medical aids and negative feelings) of the WHOQOL-BREF are misfit. The WHOQOL-BREF targets the survivors well, while the EQ-5D is able to target the survivors with lower HRQOL levels with some ceiling effects. By inspecting the item difficulty calibrations of the two instruments, five items of the WHOQOL-BREF are selected as common items in relation to the EQ-5D. These five items are considered compatible with each other. Differential item functioning (DIF) analysis reveals that the healthcare item of the WHOQOL-BREF vs the self-care item of the EQ-5D exhibits significant DIF. Conclusion: Findings suggest that one paired item should be taken into consideration when equating the WHOQOL-BREF and the EQ-5D applied to cancer survivors who underwent palliative care.

  • Securities and investment services have and use large data. Investors started to invest through their own analysis methods. There are 22 major securities and investment companies in Korea and only 6 companies support open API. Python is effective for requesting and receiving, analyzing text data from open API. Daishin Securities Co. is the only open API that officially supports Python, and eBest Investment & Securities Co. unofficially supports Python. There are two important differences between CYBOS plus of Daishin Securities Co. and xingAPI of eBest Investment & Securities Co. First, we must log in to CYBOS plus to access the server of Daishin Securities Co. And the python program does not require a logon. However, to receive data using xingAPI, users log on in an individual Python program. Second, CYBOS plus receives data in a Request/Reply method, and zingAPI receives data through events. It can be thought that these points will show a difference in response time. Response time is important to users who use open APIs. Data were measured from August 5, 2021, to February 3, 2022. For each measurement, 15 repeated measurements were taken to obtain 420 measurements. To increase the accuracy of the study, both APIs were measured alternately under same conditions. A paired t-test was performed to test the hypothesis that the null hypothesis is there was no difference in means. The p-value is 0.2961, we do not reject null hypothesis. Therefore, we can see that there is no significant difference between means. From the boxplot, we can see that the distribution of the response time of eBest is more spread out than that of Cybos, and the position of the center is slightly lower. CYBOS plus has no restrictions on Python programming, but xingAPI has some limits because it indirectly supports Python programming. For example, there is a limit to receiving more than one current price.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of depending on the location of applying chest expansion resistance exercise on the respiratory muscle strength stroke patients, and to suggest more effective interventions to improve respiratory function in stroke patients in clinical practice. METHODS: A total of 30 subjects were selected and divided into two groups, and chest cage extension resistance exercise was applied to the sternum and rib cage, respectively, and performed for 4 weeks, 3 times a week, for 20 minutes. In order to compare the general characteristics of the study subjects and the homogeneity of the group, the pre-experimental values were analyzed using the independent sample t-test. Paired-sample t-test was used for pre-post value comparison of maximum inspiratory pressure and maximum expiratory pressure in each group. Statistical significance was set to .05. RESULTS: Both the sternum application group and the rib cage application group showed a significant difference in the maximum inspiratory pressure according to the intervention. Also, there was a statistically significant difference in the maximum expiratory pressure in the sternum application group. CONCLUSION: As breathing exercise is important for stroke patients, based on the results of this study, if therapists perform sternal extension resistance exercise or rib extension resistance exercise according to the patient's condition and environment, it can help the breathing function of stroke patients.

  • This study was conducted to provide data and stem information to establish a local volume table of Cryptomeria japonica in Jeju Island. Stem analysis was performed on 26 trees by selecting two average trees from each site of the 13 plots of C. japonica stands in 2021 and 2022. During the analysis stage, one outlier tree was rejected, and a total of 260 observations of the specific stem height of 25 trees were used. Of the seven major taper equation models applied for parameter estimation and statistical verification, the Muhairwe 1999 model was found to be the best fit and selected as the optimal model. Stem shape-related estimates were acquired through the selected model, and sectional measurements according to the Smalian formula applied at an interval of 10 cm from the height of the stem were used to develop a volume table. A paired t-test comparison between the C. japonica volume obtained from the present study and those selected from the current yield table by NIFoS(2020), revealed significant differences (p<0.05), highlighting the necessity of a local volume table for C. japonica in Jeju Island.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the fracture resistance, surface hardness, and color stain of 3D printed, CAD-CAM milled, and conventional interim materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 80 specimens were fabricated from auto polymerizing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), bis-acryl composite resin, CAD-CAM polymethyl methacrylate resin (milled), and 3D printed composite resin (printed) (n = 20). Forty of them were crown-shaped, on which fracture strength test was performed (n = 10). The others were disc-shaped specimens (10 mm × 2 mm) and divided into two groups for surface hardness and color stainability tests before and after thermal cycling in coffee solution (n = 10). Color parameters were measured with a spectrophotometer before and after each storage period, and color differences (CIEDE2000 [DE00]) were calculated. The distribution of variables was measured with the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey HSD, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U tests were used in the analysis of quantitative independent data. Paired sample t-test was used in the analysis of dependent quantitative data (P < .05). RESULTS. The highest crown fracture resistance values were determined for the 3D printed composite resin (P < .05), and the lowest were observed in the bis-acryl composite resin (P < .05). Before and after thermal cycling, increase in mean hardness values were observed only in 3D printed composite resin (P < .05) and the highest ΔE00 value were observed in PMMA resin for all materials (P < .05). CONCLUSION. 3D printing and CAD-CAM milled interim materials showed better fracture strength. After the coffee thermal cycle, the highest surface hardness value was again found in 3D printing and CAD-CAM milled interim samples and the color change of the bis-acryl resin-based samples and the additive production technique was higher than the PMMA resin and CAD-CAM milled resin samples.
