  • Multicast protocols are efficient methods of group communication such as video conference, Internet broadcasting and On-Line Game, but they do not support the various transmission protocol services like a reliability guarantee, FTP, or Telnet that TCPs do. The Purpose or this Paper is to find a method to utilize multicast routers can simultaneously transport multicast packets and TCP packets. For multicast network scalability and error recovery the existing SRM(Scalable Reliable Multicast)method has been used. Three packets per TCP transmission control window site are used for transport and an ACK is used for flow control. A CBR(Constant Bit Rate) and a SRM is used for UDP traffic control. Divided on whether a UDP multicast packet and TCP unicast packet is used simultaneously or only a UDP multicast packet transport is used, the multicast receiver with the longest delay is measured on the number of packets and its data receiving rate. It can be seen that the UDP packet and the TCP's IP packet can be simultaneously used in a server router.

  • The packet loss problem that occurs in the mobile multicast (MoM) protocol due to designated multicast service provider (DMSP) handoff is investigated through simulation experiments for several DMSP selection policies. Then, two enhanced DMSP schemes are proposed to minimize the packet loss of the MoM protocol with single DMSP. The first scheme uses a backup DMSP and greatly reduces the packet loss rate at the expense of the increased network traffic. The second scheme utilizes the extended DMSP operation and shows many desirable features such as the almost-zero packet loss rate and relatively low network traffic.

  • Two multicast delivery schemes are proposed to minimize the packet loss that occurs in the mobile multicast (MoM) protocol due to the handoff and relocation. The proposed schemes use a primary designated multicast service provider (DMSP) and a redundant or non-redundant backup DMSP. The simulation results verify that the proposed schemes greatly reduce the packet loss rate at the expense of the increased network traffic or the extra protocol overhead related to the operation of the non-redundant backup DMSP.

  • This paper proposes a sound multicast packet-switching method which can less affect QoS degradation. The method includes a switch fabric with extra switching paths dedicated for multicast packets. Presented also are both a buffering structure and a scheduling algorithm for the proposed method. Simulation analysis for the method shows that the switching delay of unicast packets is decreased even though arrival rate of multicast packets is increased.

  • A goal of a BISDN network is to provided integrated transport for a wide range of applications such as teleconferencing, Video On Demand etc. There require multipoint communications in addition to conventional point-to-point connections. Therefore multicast capabilities are very essential in multimedia communications. In this paper, we propose a new multicast cell scheduling method on the Parallel Multicast Packet Switch with Ring network: PMRN which are based on separated HOL. In this method, we place two different HOLs, one for unicast cells and the other for multicast cells. Then using non-FIFO scheduling, we can schedule both unicast cells and multicast cells which are available at the time in the input buffer. The simulation result shows that this method reduces the delay in the input buffer and increases the efficiency of both point-to-point network and ring network and finally enhances the bandwidth of the overall packet switch. • An increase of the number of the real time applications and the Internet hosts make the Internet architecture changed. Current Internet architecture has some problems to process the real time traffics. To solve these problem, a new Internet architecture is proposed as the Integrated Service model. In the current Internet, as multicast protocols, the QoS multicast and the best-effort multicast have been studied in their separate network environments. But, the Integrated Service Packet Network is a heterogeneous network composed of the QoS delivery domain and the best-effort delivery domain. Thus, those separated multicast protocols have limitations in an ISPN. In this paper, we propose a multicast protocol for the ISPN with the QoS and the best-effort multicasting, and analyze the performance of this protocol. As a result, we find that the packet losses are same for hybrid multicast and best-effort multicast when the bandwidth is sufficient. But, if there exist some background traffics, the hybrid multicast has less packet loss than of the best-effort multicast.

  • A shared-based tree established by the Core Based Tree multicast routing protocol (CBT), the Protocol Independent Multicast Sparse-Mode(PIM-SM), or the Core-Manager based Multicast Routing(CMMR) is rooted at a center node called core or Rendezvous Point(RP). The routes from the core (or RP) to the members of the multicast group are shortest paths. The costs of the trees constructed based on the core and the packet delays are dependent on the location of the core. The location of the core may affect the cost and performance of the shared-based tree. In this paper, we propose three methods for selecting the set of candidate cores. The three proposed methods, namely, k-minimum average cost, k-maximum degree, k-maximum weight are compared with a method which select the candidate cores randomly. Three performance measures, namely, tree cost, mean packet delay, and maximum packet delay are considered. Our simulation results show that the three proposed methods produce lower tree cost, significantly lower mean packet delay and maximum packet delay than the method which selects the candidate cores randomly.
