  • The resilient packet ring (RPR) is a data optimized ring network, where one of the key issues is on load balancing for competing streams of elastic traffic. This paper suggests three efficient traffic loading algorithms on the RPR. For the algorithms, we evaluate their efficiency via analysis or simulation.

  • The IEEE 802.17 Resilient Packet Ring Working Group develops standards to support the development and deployment of Resilient Packet Ring networks in Local, Metropolitan, and Wide Area Networks for resilient and efficient transfer of data Packets at rates scalable to many gigabits Per second. It was known that the fairness algorithm of the IEEE 802.17 Resilient Packet Ring suffers from throughput degradation under an unbalanced overload. This Paper proposes a congestion release advertisement method to improve this throughput degradation and discusses its performance. Under the proposed method, a congested node decides whether its congestion is released or not. If released, it advertises the congestion release to upstream nodes, and then upstream nodes transmit their traffic without uy regulation. The proposed method is compatible with the legacy fairness algorithm.

  • In this paper, a new data frame structure for wavelength routing in optical ring access network(ORAN) is designed and the functions of each field in the frame are defined. In addition, the IP packet transmission to the network layer corresponding to the newly proposed structure of the protocol stack is newly presented. Tha data transmission protocol design techniques of ORAN was proposed. IP packet and broadcasting packet transmission within the sub-network, and the IP packet transmission to other sub-network was shown through the process illustration. In the process, the encapsulation and framing process of the wavelength information to routing has been described in detail. And each step takes place in a packet transfer process is demonstrated. A ring type optical access network protocol is not yet research field. ORAN data transfer protocol to send/receive module structure of a subscriber node and a control node of the two rings which analyzed the results are shown. The high-speed Internet solution is proposed that by using wavelength routing the packet transport protocol for ORAN is designed.

  • The packet capturing becomes a bottleneck in the network intrusion detection and monitoring system as the network performance developing. Many approaches, zero copy, interrupt coalescing and NAPI which attempt to improve packet capturing performance of Linux, are inefficient. PF_RING is a new type of network socket that dramatically improves the packet capture speed, but not perfect. This paper proposes some solutions which can improve the memory utilization and save some data copy time based on the commodity network adapters rather than on the commercial network adapters.

  • To reduce delay for high priority packets in the ring-based EPON, the EPON packet classifier groups services as their priorities and frames for services are dynamically framed as their priorities. Since dynamic framing for a packet priority dynamically changes assignment spaces in the maximum framing packet size as network traffics, it makes services with high priority to improve quality of services with relative low threshold time for transmitting.

  • This paper considers a ring loading problem on RPR(Resilient Packet Ring), where RPR is recommended by IEEE802.17 Resilient Packet Ring working group for data optimized networks without the requirements of provisioning circuits. RPR is well suitable for metropolitan area network with two counter-rotating rings that multiple stations share the bandwidth, where the data and its corresponding control traffic is transmitted to the two opposite directional ring, respectively. One of the major concerns on RPR is to provide fairness among traffic requirements. The paper discusses several fairness measures and analysis ring loading problems for the fairness.

  • Mean waiting time for each priority packet of each node in packet based priority token ring local area networks(LAN) was approximately analyzed using Bux's token ring LAN results which have not considered priority and Cohbam's head of line(HOL) priority results. In this paper, priority reservation method suggested in the IEEE 802.5 standard was not used. Relative error between numerical results which was presented in this paper and simulation results was identified by +-5%. For traffic intenity, number of node, packet length, transmission speed, line length, token latency, number of priority class and traffic percentage to some heavy trafficd node, mean waiting time of each priority was analyzed.

  • A goal of a BISDN network is to provided integrated transport for a wide range of applications such as teleconferencing, Video On Demand etc. There require multipoint communications in addition to conventional point-to-point connections. Therefore multicast capabilities are very essential in multimedia communications. In this paper, we propose a new multicast cell scheduling method on the Parallel Multicast Packet Switch with Ring network: PMRN which are based on separated HOL. In this method, we place two different HOLs, one for unicast cells and the other for multicast cells. Then using non-FIFO scheduling, we can schedule both unicast cells and multicast cells which are available at the time in the input buffer. The simulation result shows that this method reduces the delay in the input buffer and increases the efficiency of both point-to-point network and ring network and finally enhances the bandwidth of the overall packet switch. • We demonstrate a novel all-optical packet switching system that is suitable for optical ring networks. For the demonstration, video signals are encoded into optical packets which are composed of header and payload. The optical packets are all-optically processed at a switching node based on all-optical header processor, packet-level clock extraction, bit-level clock extraction, all-optical data format converter and so on.
