창의성역량 교육이 자기효능감과 창업의지에 미치는 영향: 부모협력을 통한 사회적지지의 조절효과 중심으로 (A Study on the Effects of Creativity Competency Education on Self-Efficacy and Entrepreneurial Intention: The Moderating Role of Social Support through Parent Cooperation)

  • 전통적인 대학의 역할에서 사회진출을 하기 위한 진로 측면을 강조되어왔고, 최근에는 창업을 진로의 측면으로 강조하여 대학교육의 새로운 패러다임으로 확산되고 있다. 대학생을 대상으로 창업교육은 지속적으로 확대되고 있지만 창업을 자신의 진로 측면에서 선택하는 청년들은 비교적 적다. 정부의 주도로 대학 창업 교육을 지속적으로 확대하고 있음에도 불구하고 실질적인 창업의지와 학생 창업으로 연결되는 성과는 매우 낮다. 여전히 창의적인 인재를 양성하고 실질적인 창업의지를 높일 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구는 아직 많이 부족하다. 그럼으로 창의성 역량교육이 자기효능감과 창업의지에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 실증 분석하였고 자기효능감이 창업의지에 미치는 영향과, 자기효능감과 창업의지 사이에서 사회적지지(부모지지)가 어떤 조절효과를 보이는지 실증 분석하였다 본 연구는 창업교육을 받은 대학생을 대상으로 2016년 8월 393개의 표본을 최종적으로 검증에 활용하였다. 연구 결과 협업적 의사소통능력과 창의적 문제해결능력은 자기효능감에 유의미한 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 반면 혁신적 업무행동능력은 자기효능감에 직접적인 영향은 없었다. 그리고 창의적 문제해결능력과 혁신적 업무행동 능력은 창업의지에 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 반면 협업적 의사소통능력은 창업의지에 직접적인 영향이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 자기효능감은 창업의지에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것을 나타났다. 마지막으로 자기효능감과 창업의지 간에 사회적지지(부모지지)의 조절효과는 아무런 영향이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 시사점은 창업교육을 통해 창의성 역량에 대한 효과성을 실증적으로 검증하였고 대학생들의 실질적인 창업의지를 높이기 위해서 부모협력을 통한 사회적지지가 반드시 필요하다는 의미있는 연구결과 도출하였다. 따라서 대학들은 대학생들의 창업의지를 높이기 위해서는 학부모들을 대상으로 창업교육 프로그램을 반드시 개설 할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 학생창업을 위한 정책 수립과 창업교육의 올바른 방향성을 제시하는데 의미 있는 기초자료로 활용 될 수 있다.

주요 국가의 기업가정신 교육 현황 및 효과 연구: 2016년 글로벌 기업가정신 지수의 비교 (A Study on the Current State and Effect of Entrepreneurship Education in Major Countries: Comparison of the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Index)

  • 본 연구는 국내 창업 환경 개선 및 바람직한 창업 인식 조성방안을 모색하기 위해 2016 글로벌 기업가정신 트렌드 보고서(GETR)의 데이터(20개국 40,354명)를 활용하여 주요 국가의 기업가정신 교육 현황 및 국가별(유형별) 창업 실태, 그리고 기업가정신과 창업 의지 및 기회형 창업의 관계를 분석하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 먼저 한국은 기업가정신교육의 확대가 시급한 것으로 분석되었다. 한국의 '초중고 기업가정신교육 경험'은 20개국 중 최하위수준(19위)이었으며, '대학' 및 '평생교육'은 중위권(15위)인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 전세계적으로 기업가정신교육은 연령대를 불문하고 활성화되고 있음에도 불구하고, 국내 중고령자에 대한 기업가정신교육은 상대적으로 미약한 수준이었다. 이는 향후 평생교육 차원의 교육 확대가 요구되며, 재직자 및 은퇴예정자 대상 기업가정신 교육 개발 및 확대가 필요함을 시사한다. 둘째로, 한국인 개인의 창업의지는 3.8점으로 중하위권(15위)이었고, 기회형 창업수준은 최하위(20위)였다. 중국(4.55) 및 미국(4.01)과 비교할 때 한국인의 개인 창업의지는 상대적으로 낮은 것을 확인할 수 있었고, 기회형 창업 수준 또한 한국은 3.43점으로 중국(4.35), 일본(4.04), 미국(4.59)에 비해 매우 낮은 것으로 확인되었다. 일반적으로 요소주도형${\rightarrow}$효율주도형${\rightarrow}$혁신주도형으로 전환될수록 기회형 창업의 비중은 높아지는데, 한국의 경우 비자발적 창업 및 소상공 중심의 창업 비중이 높아 기회형 창업 수준이 낮은 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 마지막으로, 요소주도형, 효율주도형, 혁신주도형 모든 유형에서 기업가정신교육 참여에 따른 창업의지는 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 혁신주도형일수록 모든 기업가정신 교육(초중고, 대학, 평생교육) 참여여부에 따라 신규창업의지는 크게 증가하고 있음을 확인하였다. 혁신주도형인 한국의 경우 기업가정신교육의 양적 확대를 기반으로 질적 제고를 이룬다면, 지금의 중하위권(15위)에 머문 국민의 창업의지를 상승시킬 주요한 원동력이 될 것으로 예상된다.

스타트업 액셀러레이터의 투자결정요인에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Determinants of Investment in Startup Accelerators)

  • 스타트업 액셀러레이터는 초기창업자들이 겪는 애로사항을 직접적으로 해결해 줄 수 있는 교육, 멘토링, 네트워킹, 공간, 시드머니(Seed money)등을 제공하고 일정 지분을 받는 새로운 형태의 투자주체이다(Clarysse, 2016). 스타트업 액셀러레이터들은 이들이 스타트업 생태계에 미치는 영향력이 입증되면서 전 세계적으로 확산되고 있다(Pauwels et al., 2016; Cohen & Hochberg, 2014). 본 연구는 이처럼 전 세계적으로 주요한 투자주체로 부상하고 있는 스타트업 액셀러레이터들의 투자결정요인을 도출하는 연구를 진행하였다. 먼저, 관련 선행연구가 부재한 상황이므로 정성적 메타합성법, 관련 자료조사, 관찰, 심층인터뷰의 과정을 거쳤다. 우선 창업초기 기업에 대한 투자결정요인에 대한 선행연구 30여 편을 선정하여 해당연구에 나타난 투자결정요인들을 정성적 메타합성법을 통해 비교·분석하였다. 그리고 액셀러레이터의 특성을 반영하기 위해서 액셀러레이터들의 평가과정에 대한 자료들을 조사하였으며, 실제로 이루어진 미국 액셀러레이터들의 스타트업 평가과정을 관찰하였다. 이 때 나타난 100여개의 질문을 근거이론의 코딩 기법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 더불어 미국 액셀러레이터들을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행하여 액셀러레이터의 특성과 주요 투자결정요인 등을 파악하였다. 이를 통해 최종적으로 5개 카테고리, 26개 세부 투자결정요인으로 이루어진 '액셀러레이터 형 투자결정요인'을 도출하였다. 그리고 이의 결과를 국내 액셀러레이터들의 검토를 받고 확정한 후, 국내 액셀러레이터를 대상으로 한 정량조사를 통해 각 카테고리 내, 중요도 및 우선순위를 살펴봄으로써 이의 신뢰성 및 액셀러레이터들이 중요하게 생각하는 투자결정요인 등을 확인하였다. 이렇게 액셀러레이터의 투자결정요인을 체계적으로 도출한 연구는 최초의 연구로써 후속연구들의 진행 및 스타트업 선정과정, 액셀러레이터의 투자결정 과정 등에 주요한 기여를 할 수 있으리라 기대한다.

초기창업자의 창업동기와 창업준비가 사업계속의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 창업만족도의 매개효과를 중심으로 (A Study on the Influence of Nascent Entrepreneurs Motivation and Preparation on the Business Continuity: Based on the Mediation Effect of Start-up Satisfaction)

  • 공공금융기관에 따르면 금융위원회가 신용보증기금과 산업은행에서 정책금융 등의 많은 창업지원 자금을 통해 약 35조원을 지원하였으며 최근 3년간(2015년~2018년) 창업기업에 약 100조원 이상을 지원하였다. 중소벤처기업부는 창업국가 조성을 위해 2020년도 부처별 창업지원사업을 조사한 결과, 16개 부처(90개 사업)에서 모두 1조 4,517억원이 지원한다고 밝혔다. 실제로 중소벤처기업부의 지원예산 중 스타트업 지원 비중은 85%에 달한 반면 스케일업(성장·성숙기)지원은 15%에 불과하다. 그러나 국내 창업기업의 생존율은 선진국에 비해 턱없이 낮은 것으로 조사되었다. 창업 후 3년간 생존율은 39.1%로 10곳 중 4곳 정도만 살아남는 것으로 조사되었고, 5년간 살아남을 확률은 27.5% 10곳 중 3곳 정도만 살아남는다. 반면 해외 창업기업들은 5년간 창업기업 생존율은 우리나라의 2배에 달한다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 최근 정부의 적극적인 지원이 이루어지고 있는 초기창업자에 대한 연구의 필요성과 함께 창업동기와 창업준비가 사업계속의도에 미치는 영향관계에서 창업만족도의 매개역할에 관한 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고 살펴보고자 한다. 설문조사는 전국 초기창업자들을 대상으로 2020년 4월 1일부터 5월15일까지 하였고 총 245부 중 222부의 자료를 분석하였으며, 설문문항은 Likert 5점 척도를 활용하여 측정하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 창업동기를 구성하는 모든 요인이 창업만족도에 유의한 영향을 미침으로써 채택되었다. 또한, 초기창업자의 창업준비의 하위 요인 중 아이템준비가 창업만족도에 유의한 영향을 미침으로써 일부 채택되었다. 둘째, 초기창업자의 창업만족도가 사업계속의도에 유의한 영향을 미침으로써 채택되었다. 셋째, 창업동기의 자아실현 동기가 사업계속의도에 유의한 영향을 미침으로써 일부 채택되었다. 또한, 초기창업자의 창업준비의 아이템 준비가 사업계속의도에 유의한 영향을 미침으로써 일부 채택되었다. 넷째, 초기창업자의 창업동기와 사업계속의도간에 창업만족도의 매개효과가 나타남으로써 채택되었다. 또한, 초기창업자의 창업준비와 사업계속의도간에 창업만족도의 매개효과가 나타남으로써 채택되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 실무적 시사점을 도출하고, 초기창업자들의 창업만족도를 높이고 계속 가능한 창업수행을 할 수 있도록 유용한 정책적 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.

청년창업가역량이 창업자기효능감을 매개로 창업성공과 창업만족에 미치는 영향 (Impact of Youth Entrepreneurial Competency on the Success and Satisfaction of Start-ups through Entrepreneurial Self-Efficiency)

  • 기술의 발전과 비대면 사회의 도래는 일자리 문제에 직접적인 영향을 미치게 될 것으로 예상된다. 이러한 현상에 맞추어 정부와 교육훈련기관들은 창업지원정책을 통해 일자리 문제에 대처하면서 동시에 혁신적인 기업의 탄생을 유도하고 있다. 특히 청년창업지원은 시장실패를 보완하는 효과 뿐 아니라 고성장 창업을 촉진하는 효과를 기대할 수 있다. 이러한 연구배경에 근거하여 본 연구는 청년창업가를 대상으로 창업가역량과 창업자기효능감, 그리고 창업성공과 창업만족의 영향관계에 관하여 고찰하였다. 이론적 연구를 토대로 청년창업가의 창업가역량의 주요요소와 창업성과와의 관련성을 검토한 후, 창업자기효능감을 매개변수로 설정하여 연구가설과 연구모형을 도출하였다. 청년창업가역량은 기업가역량, 기술역량, 관리역량, 창의역량의 4가지로 구분하였고 각 역량이 창업자기효능감을 매개로 창업성과에 유의한 영향을 미치고 있는지를 가설로 설정하였다. 실증연구를 위해 국내 2-30대 청년창업가를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 우선 청년창업가의 창업가역량은 창업성공과 창업만족에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 창업가역량별로 차이가 있는데, 기술역량과 관리역량은 모두 완전매개로 창업자기효능감을 거쳐서 창업성공과 창업만족을 높이는 것을 확인하였다. 기업가역량은 창업성공에 대하여는 완전매개, 창업만족에 대하여는 부분매개를 나타내었다. 창의역량의 경우 창업성공에 대하여는 직접효과만 존재하였고 창업만족은 부분매개효과를 나타내었다. 따라서 세부가설 8개 중 7개는 지지되었고 1개는 기각되었다. 이상의 연구결과를 토대로 시사점 및 연구의 한계점, 향후 연구방향을 제시하였다.

집단지성의 품질, 그 결정요인, 유용성의 관계: 수용자 관점에서 한국의 위키서비스와 Q&A 서비스의 비교 (Relationships between Collective Intelligence Quality, Its Determinants, and Usefulness: A Comparative Study between Wiki Service and Q&A Service in Perspective of Korean Users)

  • Innovation can come from inside or outside organizations. Recently, organizations have begun turning to external knowledge more often, through various forms of collective intelligence (CI) as collaborative platform to solve complex problems. Several factors facilitate this CI utilization phenomenon. First, with the rapid development of Internet and social media, numerous web applications have become available to millions of the Internet users over the past few decades. Web 2.0 and social media have become innovative web applications that provide an environment for human social interaction and collaboration. Second, the diffusion of simple and easy-to-use technologies that enable users to interact and design web applications without programming skills have led to vast, previously unknown amounts of user-generated content. Finally, the Internet has enabled communities to connect and collaborate, creating a virtual world of CI. In this study, web enabled CI is defined as a composed ability of individuals who are acting as a single cognitive unit to achieve common goals, think reasonably, solve problems, make decisions, carry out complex tasks, and develop creative ideas collectively through participation and collaboration on the web. Although CI plays a critical role in organizational innovation and collaboration, the dubious quality of CI is still problem that is difficult to solve. In general, the quality level of content collected from the crowd is lower than that from professionals. Thus, it is important to identify determinants of CI quality and to analyze the relationship between CI quality and its usefulness. However, there is a lack of empirical study on the quality factors of web-enabled CI. There exist a variety of web enabled CI sites such as Threadless, iStockphoto or InnoCentive, Wikipedia, and Youtube. One of the most successful forms of web-enabled CI is the Wikipedia online encyclopedia, accessible all over the world. Another one example is Naver KnowledgeiN, a typical and popular CI site offering question and answer (Q&A) services. It is necessary to study whether or not different types of CI have a different effect on CI quality and its usefulness. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to answer to following research questions: ${\bullet}$ What determinants are important to CI quality? ${\bullet}$ What is the relationship between CI quality factors and the usefulness of web-enabled CI? ${\bullet}$ Does CI type have a moderating effect on the relationship between CI quality, its determinants, and CI usefulness? Online survey using Google Docs with email and Kakao Talk was conducted for collecting data from Wikipedia and Naver KnowledgeiN users. A totoal of 490 valid responses were collected, where users of Wikipedia were 220 while users of Naver KnowledgeiN were 270. Expertise of contributors, community size, and diversity of contributors were identified as core determinants of perceived CI quality. Perceived CI quality has significantly influenced perceived CI usefulness from a user's perspective. For improving CI quality, it is believed that organizations should ensure proper crowd size, facilitate CI contributors' diversity and attract as many expert contributors as possible. Hypotheses that CI type plays a role of moderator were partially supported. First, the relationship between expertise of contributors and perceived CI quality was different according to CI type. The expertise of contributors played a more important role in CI quality in the case of Q&A services such as Knowledge iN compared to wiki services such as Wikipedia. This implies that Q&A service requires more expertise and experiences in particular areas rather than the case of Wiki service to improve service quality. Second, the relationship between community size and perceived CI quality was different according to CI type. The community size has a greater effect on CI quality in case of Wiki service than that of Q&A service. The number of contributors in Wikipeda is important because Wiki is an encyclopedia service which is edited and revised repeatedly from many contributors while the answer given in Naver Knowledge iN can not be corrected by others. Finally, CI quality has a greater effect on its usefulness in case of Wiki service rather than Q&A service. In this paper, we suggested implications for practitioners and theorists. Organizations offering services based on collective intelligence try to improve expertise of contributeros, to increase the number of contributors, and to facilitate participation of various contributors.

융합 서비스 모델 개발 방법론 및 체계 연구 (A Framework for Creating Inter-Industry Service Models in the Convergence Era)

  • In today's rapidly changing and increasingly competitive business environment, new product development in tune with market trends in a timely manner has been a matter of the utmost concern for all enterprises. Indeed, developing a sustainable new business has been a top priority for not only business enterprises, but also for the government policy makers accountable for the health of Its national economy as well as for decision makers in what type of organizations. Further, for a soft landing of new businesses, building a government-initiated industry base has been claimed to be necessary as a way to effectively boost corporate activities. However, the existing methodology in new service and new product development is not suitable for nurturing industry, because it is mainly focused on the research and development of corporate business activities instead of new product development. The approach for developing new business is based on 'innovation' and 'convergence.' Yet, the convergence among technologies, supplies, businesses and industries is believed to be more effective than innovation alone as a way to gain momentum. Therefore, it has become more important than ever to study a new methodology based on convergence in industrial quality new product development (NPD) and new service development (NDS). In this research, therefore, we reviewed any restrictions in the existing new product and new service development methodology and the existing business model development methodology. In doing so, we conducted industry standard collaboration analysis on a new service model development methodology in the private sector and the public sector. This approach is fundamentally different from the existing one in that ours focuses on new business development under private management. The suggested framework can be categorized into industry level and service level. First, in the industry level, we define new business opportunities In occurrence of convergence between businesses. For this, we analyze the existing industry at the industry level to identify the opportunities in a market and its business attractiveness, based on which the convergence industry is formulated. Also, through the analysis of environment and market opportunity at the industry level. we can trace how different industries are lined to one another so as to extend the result of the study to develop better insights into industry expansion and new industry emergence. After then, in the service level, we elicit the service for the defined new business, which is composed of private service and supporting service for nurturing industry. Private service includes 3steps: plan-design-do; supporting service for nurturing industry has 4 steps: selection-make environment- business preparation-do and see. The existing methodology focuses on mainly securing business competitiveness, building a business model for success, and offering new services based on the core competence of companies. This suggested methodology, on other hand, suggests the necessity of service development, when new business opportunities arise, in relation to the opportunity analysis of supporting service based on the clear understanding of new business supporting infrastructure optimization. Meanwhile, we have performed case studies on the printing and publishing field with the restrict procedure and development system to assure the feasibility and practical application. Even though the printing and publishing industry is considered a typical knowledge convergence industry, it is also known as a low-demand and low-value industry in Korea. For this reason, we apply the new methodology and suggest the direction and the possibility of how the printing and publishing industry can be transformed as a core dynamic force for new growth. Then, we suggest the base composition service for industry promotion(public) and business opportunities for private's profitability(private).

SCM 성과 결정요인에 관한 통합적 연구: 공급업체 관점으로 (Studies on Determinant Factors of SCM Performance: From the Supplier Perspective)

  • In an attempt to cope with widespread, dynamic, and accelerating changes in both internal and external business environments, companies often utilize information technologies such as SCM(Supply Chain Management). To date, SCM research has mainly focused on the effects of dynamic factors on SCM success and emphasized adoption strategies and critical success factors. Consequently, the effects of more static factors such as interdependency between SCM partners have been largely ignored. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to examine the effects of both dynamic and static factors on SCM performance by controlling for information quality and partnership quality. The five factors examined in this study include innovative ness, mutual dependency, quality of information, partnership quality, and SCM performance. All factors were examined from the perspective of part suppliers, except the mutual dependency which was examined from two aspects: supplier's dependency on customer and customer's dependency on supplier. Data was collected through five hundred survey questionnaires distributed to the part supplier companies that have implemented SCM systems for at least one year. As a result, a total of 170 valid responses were obtained. A structural equation research model was fitted using SAS 9.1.3 and SMART-PLS 2.0. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, innovativeness positively affected SCM information quality. SCM partnership quality, and ultimately SCM performance. The path coefficient between innovativeness and information quality was 0.387, with a t-value of 3.528. Innovativeness also had a positively direct effect on partnership quality. The path coefficient was 0.351 with a t-value of 3.366. The total effect of innovativeness on partnership quality was significant, although its indirect effect on partnership quality by altering information quality was negligible. The total indirect effect of innovativeness on SCM performance by affecting information quality and partnership quality was significant with a p-value of 0.014. Innovativeness played an important role in determining SCM performance. Second, mutual dependency showed no significant effect on SCM information quality. This result contradicts the earlier assertion that the more dependent two companies are, the more accurate and timely the information they exchange ought to be. This study showed that this may not be the case; a partner may provide information of poor quality even when it is strongly dependent on the other. Mutual dependency showed significant effect on partnership quality. However, when the mutual dependency perceived by suppliers was divided into two parts, one being a supplier's dependency on its customer company and the other being a customer's dependency on the supplier, the latter showed a significant impact on the perceived SCM partnership quality. This result indicates that a customer company can hardly improve the partnership quality perceived by suppliers by making them more dependent. It improves only when the suppliers perceive that their partners, typically having more bargaining power, are more dependent on them. The overall effect of mutual dependency of any kind on SCM performance, however, was not significant. Although mutual dependency has been mentioned as an important static factor influencing almost every aspect of cooperation on a supply chain, its influences may not be as significant as it was initially perceived to be. Third, the correlation between information quality and partnership quality was 0.448 with a p-value of less than 0.001. Information quality had a path coefficient of 0.256 to partnership quality with a t-value of 2.940. The quality of information exchanged between partners may have an impact on their partnership quality. Fourth, information quality also had a significant impact on SCM performance with a path coefficient of 0.325 with a t-value of 3.611. In this study, SCM performance was divided into four categories: product quality, cost saving, service quality, and order fulfillment. Information quality has Significant impacts on product quality, cost saving and service quality, but not on order fulfillment. Fifth, partnership quality, as expected, had a significant impact on SCM performance. The path coefficient was 0.403 with a t-value of 3.539. Partnership quality, like information quality, had positive impacts on product quality, cost saving and service quality, but showed no impact on order fulfillment. It seemed that order fulfillment is the hardest category of performance that SCM can satisfy. One major limitation of this study is that it surveyed only the suppliers. To better understand the dual aspects of SCM, it is important to survey both suppliers and the assemblers, especially in pairs. This research, to our best knowledge, was the first attempt to study the level of dependency between the two groups by measuring the dual aspects of SCM and studying mutual dependency from the categories of suppliers and assemblers each.. In the future, a more comprehensive and precise measurement of SCM characteristics needs to be achieved by examining from both the supplier's and assembler's perspectives.

스마트폰 위치기반 어플리케이션의 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인: 프라이버시 계산 모형의 적용 (Factors Influencing the Adoption of Location-Based Smartphone Applications: An Application of the Privacy Calculus Model)

  • Smartphone and its applications (i.e. apps) are increasingly penetrating consumer markets. According to a recent report from Korea Communications Commission, nearly 50% of mobile subscribers in South Korea are smartphone users that accounts for over 25 million people. In particular, the importance of smartphone has risen as a geospatially-aware device that provides various location-based services (LBS) equipped with GPS capability. The popular LBS include map and navigation, traffic and transportation updates, shopping and coupon services, and location-sensitive social network services. Overall, the emerging location-based smartphone apps (LBA) offer significant value by providing greater connectivity, personalization, and information and entertainment in a location-specific context. Conversely, the rapid growth of LBA and their benefits have been accompanied by concerns over the collection and dissemination of individual users' personal information through ongoing tracking of their location, identity, preferences, and social behaviors. The majority of LBA users tend to agree and consent to the LBA provider's terms and privacy policy on use of location data to get the immediate services. This tendency further increases the potential risks of unprotected exposure of personal information and serious invasion and breaches of individual privacy. To address the complex issues surrounding LBA particularly from the user's behavioral perspective, this study applied the privacy calculus model (PCM) to explore the factors that influence the adoption of LBA. According to PCM, consumers are engaged in a dynamic adjustment process in which privacy risks are weighted against benefits of information disclosure. Consistent with the principal notion of PCM, we investigated how individual users make a risk-benefit assessment under which personalized service and locatability act as benefit-side factors and information privacy risks act as a risk-side factor accompanying LBA adoption. In addition, we consider the moderating role of trust on the service providers in the prohibiting effects of privacy risks on user intention to adopt LBA. Further we include perceived ease of use and usefulness as additional constructs to examine whether the technology acceptance model (TAM) can be applied in the context of LBA adoption. The research model with ten (10) hypotheses was tested using data gathered from 98 respondents through a quasi-experimental survey method. During the survey, each participant was asked to navigate the website where the experimental simulation of a LBA allows the participant to purchase time-and-location sensitive discounted tickets for nearby stores. Structural equations modeling using partial least square validated the instrument and the proposed model. The results showed that six (6) out of ten (10) hypotheses were supported. On the subject of the core PCM, H2 (locatability ${\rightarrow}$ intention to use LBA) and H3 (privacy risks ${\rightarrow}$ intention to use LBA) were supported, while H1 (personalization ${\rightarrow}$ intention to use LBA) was not supported. Further, we could not any interaction effects (personalization X privacy risks, H4 & locatability X privacy risks, H5) on the intention to use LBA. In terms of privacy risks and trust, as mentioned above we found the significant negative influence from privacy risks on intention to use (H3), but positive influence from trust, which supported H6 (trust ${\rightarrow}$ intention to use LBA). The moderating effect of trust on the negative relationship between privacy risks and intention to use LBA was tested and confirmed by supporting H7 (privacy risks X trust ${\rightarrow}$ intention to use LBA). The two hypotheses regarding to the TAM, including H8 (perceived ease of use ${\rightarrow}$ perceived usefulness) and H9 (perceived ease of use ${\rightarrow}$ intention to use LBA) were supported; however, H10 (perceived effectiveness ${\rightarrow}$ intention to use LBA) was not supported. Results of this study offer the following key findings and implications. First the application of PCM was found to be a good analysis framework in the context of LBA adoption. Many of the hypotheses in the model were confirmed and the high value of $R^2$ (i.,e., 51%) indicated a good fit of the model. In particular, locatability and privacy risks are found to be the appropriate PCM-based antecedent variables. Second, the existence of moderating effect of trust on service provider suggests that the same marginal change in the level of privacy risks may differentially influence the intention to use LBA. That is, while the privacy risks increasingly become important social issues and will negatively influence the intention to use LBA, it is critical for LBA providers to build consumer trust and confidence to successfully mitigate this negative impact. Lastly, we could not find sufficient evidence that the intention to use LBA is influenced by perceived usefulness, which has been very well supported in most previous TAM research. This may suggest that more future research should examine the validity of applying TAM and further extend or modify it in the context of LBA or other similar smartphone apps.

  • Increasingly the institutional theory has been an important theoretical view of decision making process and IT adoption in many academic researches. This study used the institutional theory as a lens through which we can understand the factors that enable the effective appropriation of advanced information technology. It posits that mimetic, coercive, and normative pressures existing in an institutionalized environment could influence the participation of top managers or decision makers and the involvement of users toward an effective use of IT in their tasks. Since the introduction of IT, organizational members have been using IT in their daily tasks, creating and recreating rules and resources according to their own methods and needs. That is to say, the adaptation process of the IT and outcomes are different among organizations. The previous studies on a diverse use of IT refer to the appropriation of technology from the social technology view. Users appropriate IT through not only technology itself, but also in terms of how they use it or how they make the social practice in their use of it. In this study, the concepts of institutional pressure, appropriation, participation of decision makers, and involvement of users toward the appropriation are explored in the context of the appropriation of the mobile electronic medical record system (M-EMRS) in particularly a hospital setting. Based on the conceptual definition of institutional pressure, participation and involvement, operational measures are reconstructed. Furthermore, the concept of appropriation is measured in the aspect of three sub-constructs-consensus on appropriation, faithful appropriation, and attitude of use. Grounded in the relevant theories to appropriation of IT, we developed a research framework in which the effects of institutional pressure, participation and involvement on the appropriation of IT are analyzed. Within this theoretical framework, we formulated several hypotheses. We developed a second order institutional pressure and appropriation construct. After establishing its validity and reliability, we tested the hypotheses with empirical data from 101 users in 3 hospitals which had adopted and used the M-EMRS. We examined the mediating effect of the participation of decision makers and the involvement of users on the appropriation and empirically validated their relationships. The results show that the mimetic, coercive, and normative institutional pressure has an effect on the participation of decision makers and the involvement of users in the appropriation of IT while the participation of decision makers and the involvement of users have an effect on the appropriation of IT. The results also suggest that the institutional pressure and the participation of decision makers influence the involvement of users toward an appropriation of IT. Our results emphasize the mediating effect of the institutional pressure on the appropriation of IT. Namely, the higher degree of the participation of decision makers and the involvement of users, the more effective appropriation users will represent. These results provide strong support for institutional-based variables as predictors of appropriation. These findings also indicate that organizations should focus on the role of participation of decision makers and the involvement of users for the purpose of effective appropriation, and these are the practical implications of our study. The theoretical contribution of this study is lies in the integrated model of the effect of institutional pressure on the appropriation of IT. The results are consistent with the institutional theory and support previous studies on adaptive structuration theory.
