Electrical and Piezoelectric Properties on the Piezoceramics PZT Substituted for B-Sites (압전 세라믹(PZT)의 B-Site 치환에 따른 전기 및 압전 특성)

  • Electrical resistivity and piezoelectric properties were investigated in Lead Zirconate-Titante(PZT) with Nb$_2$O$\sub$5/dopant, fabricated from conventional mixed-oxide powders and molten salt synthesis. The resistivity and electromechanical coupling factor(K$\sub$p/) were increased with increasing Nb content. The reason for increasing of the electrical resistivity below the Curie Temperature(TC). It is believed that the Curie Temperature(Tc). It is believed that the p-type electrical conduction in PZT is due to lead vacancies. The electromechanical coupling factor(K$\sub$p/) and piezoelectric constant d$\sub$33/ were improved. This behavior can be explained as a compensation effect and Nb$\^$5+/ can serve as a donar and contribute electrons to the conduction process. As a result, the optimized Nb$_2$O$\sub$5/ dopants on the PZT specimens were 0.75 wt%.

  • In this paper, We have studied about the microstructure of the piezoceramics PZT that were added with some kinds of additives, such as Niobium(Nb), Iron(Fe) or Manganese(Mn). The grain size of PZT ceramics was decreased with increasing the amounts of additive of Nb or Fe, while increased with increasing Mn. The curie temperature was changed slightly for the PZT ceramics containing $Fe^{3+}$, which is not dependent on the amounts, but $Nb^{5+}$ or $Mn^{2+}$ ion added PZT was lowered. The resistivity was increased with increasing the amounts of $Nb^{5+}$ additive, while decreased for $Mn^{2+}$ additive.

  • This research aims at designing a diaphragm made of SUS316L stainless steel for ultra high pressure sensors and evaluating its performance with a PZT driven deformation tester instead of high pressure chamber testing up to 100 MPa. Finite element method analysis indicates that the optimum thickness of a flat diaphragm is 1.5 mm not only to secure safety of sensors up to 100 MPa but also to enhance displacement measuring sensitivity. For this thickness, the maximum displacement at the center of the diaphragm is $5.3{\mu}m$. The PZT actuator must offer a force of 1,669 N to create a pressure of 100 MPa at the diaphragm surface in order to obtain a displacement of $5.3{\mu}m$. The performance evaluation by the PZT driven tester demonstrates nearly the same results as the same results as the sensors tested in the ultra high pressure chamber.

  • A synthesis process for PZT powder using $NH_{3}$ gas as a precipitator in a bubble column reactor was experimentally successful in develope a production process of piezoelectric ceramic PZT powder. Also as a reaction by coprecipitation, the crystalized PZT ceramic powder at the condition of over pH 9 could be attained. The time needed for reaction on the condition of $NH_{3}$ gas flow rate = 0.5 1/min, Ar gas flow rate = 2.0 1/min. Feed flow rate = 2.33 ml/sec was less than five minutes, so it could synthesize PZT powder for such a few moments. And the synthesized PZT powder was $0.17{\mu}m$ in diameter on an average.

  • In this study, PZT-5A green sheet were prepared by using tape casting technique, and the piezoelectric properties of PZT-5A by variation of sintering temperature was investigated. After, design and piezoelectric properties of 2-2 piezocomposite ultrasonic transducers by menas of the FEA. The acoustic impedance and piezoelectric charge constant of the 2-2 type piezocomposite transducer decreased proportionally due to the density decrease caused by the PZT volume fraction decrease. The piezocomposite acoustic impedance were 7~3 MRayl between 0.6 and 0.2 allowing it to be used for a ultrasonic transducer. The resonance characteristics and the electro-mechanical coupling factor were the best when the volume fraction PZT was 0.6. The PZT volume fraction shows the fixed value, 0.6~0.65, approximately within the range between 0.2 and 0.6 while it is increased to decreased over the range. The result of the experiment above confirmed that the 2-2 piezoelectric composites could be used as the ultrasonic transducers.

Enhancing Breakdown Strength and Energy Storage Efficiency of Glass-Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 Composite Film (유리-PZT 혼합 후막의 절연 파괴 전압 및 에너지 저장 효율 향상)

  • To improve ferroelectric properties of PZT, many studies have attempted to fabricate dense PZT films. The AD process has an advantage for forming dense ceramic films at room temperature without any additional heat treatment in low vacuum. Thick films coated by AD have a higher dielectric breakdown strength due to their higher density than those coated using conventional methods. To improve the breakdown strength, glass (SiO2-Al2O3-Y2O3, SAY) is mixed with PZT powder at various volume ratios (PZT-xSAY, x = 0, 5, 10 vol%) and coating films are produced on silicon wafers by AD method. Depending on the ratio of PZT to glass, dielectric breakdown strength and energy storage efficiency characteristics change. Mechanical impact in the AD process makes the SAY glass more viscous and fills the film densely. Compared to pure PZT film, PZT-SAY film shows an 87.5 % increase in breakdown strength and a 35.3 % increase in energy storage efficiency.

  • Effects of $Nb_2O_5$ addition ranged from 0.0 to 0.75(wt%) on the microstructure and electrical porperties of PZT ceramics have been investigated. The Pb vacancy concentration increases with increasing NbO content. However, the experimental results show the resistivity increases with increasing $Nb^{5+}$ content. This behavior can be explained as a compensation effect and $Nb^{5+}$ can serve as a donar and contribute electrons to the conduction process. According to the law of mass action, this result may reduce the total charge carrier:thus the resistivity increase with NbO content in PZT.

  • $Pb(Zr_{0.52}, Ti_{0.48})O_3$ (PZT) thick films as an actuating material with conducting oxides, $(La_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}) CoO_3$ (LSCO), have been fabricated by sol-gel method for Optical Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) devices, in which PZT/LSCO/SiO2 structures were used. In order to improve the adhesion to LSCO solution in order to enhance the wetting behavior of a water-based LSCO precursor solution and further to improve the adhesion between LSCO and $SiO_2$ layers. PZT films were made using 1-3 propanediol based precursor solution which has a high viscosity and a boiling point appropriate for thick film fabrication. In the precursor solution, Ti-propoxied and Zr-propoxied are partially substituted with acetylacetone to achieve the solution stability while maintaining reactivity. Crack free PZT films (0.8~1$\mu\textrm{m}$) have been successfully fabricated at crystallization temperatures above $700^{\circ}C$. Dielectric constants and dielectric losses of the PZT films were 900~1200and 2~5%, respectively. Piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$ of the PZT films constrained by a substrate were 200pm/V at 100kV/cm.

Fabrication of PZT Tubular Structures by a Template-wetting Process

  • Nanotubes and microtubes of ferroelectric lead zirconate titanate (PZT) were synthesized by means of a simple and convenient process called a template-wetting process. Nanoporous alumina and macroporous Si were used as template materials to fabricate the corresponding tubes. For the improvement of the wetting properties of the wetting solution, the PZT solution was mixed with a polymer. The polymer was removed completely during annealing. The grain growth processes of the PZT nanotubes during baking and furnace annealing were examined by means of field emission electron microscope (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD).

  • In this study, piezoelectric transducer were designed and manufactured using PZT-5A which have relatively high electromechanical coefficient. A epoxy is a good material as matching and backing layers. The envelope was reduced 60% as using matching layer and 76% as using matching and backing layer. NDT was successfully carried out for aluminum test pieces. Distance error and resolution of PZT-5A probe were improved as increasing frequency. Envelope was effectively reduced by backing layer but sensitiveness was poor.
