Circuit Properties of Zero-Voltage-Transition PWM Converters

  • A zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) pulse width modulated (PWM) converter is a PWM converter with a single main power switch that has an auxiliary circuit to help it turn on with zero-voltage switching (ZVS). There have been many ZVT-PWM converters proposed in the literature as they are the most popular type of ZVS-PWM converters. In this paper, the properties and characteristics of several types of ZVT-PWM converters are reviewed. A new type of ZVT-PWM converter is then introduced, and the operation of a sample converter of this type is explained and analyzed in detail. A procedure for the design of the converter is presented and demonstrated experimentally. The feasibility of the new converter is confirmed with results obtained from an experimental prototype. Conclusions on the performance of ZVT-PWM converters in general are made based on the efficiency results obtained from the experimental prototypes of various ZVT-PWM converters of different types.

일정한 주파수로 제어되는 쿼지 공진형 PWM 컨버터 (Quasi-Resonant PWM Converter Controlled by Constant Frequency)

  • 본 연구에서는 컨버터를 일정한 주파수로 제어할 수 있는 쿼지 공진형 컨버터를 제안하였다. 제안된 컨버터의 스위치는 쿼지 공진형 컨버터와 유사하게 고주파에서 고효율로 동작할 수 있도록 소프트 스위칭 특성을 갖는다. 또한, 쿼지 공진형 컨버터는 출력전압의 제어를 위해 컨버터의 스위칭 주파수를 변동시키는 데 비하여 제안된 컨버터는 일정한 주파수로 PWM 제어가 가능하다. 따라서 필터설계 및 EMI 필터설계의 최적화가 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 컨버터의 스위치 모드를 해석하여 컨버터의 동작원리를 기술하고, 컨버터의 스위치가 소프트 스위칭 조건을 만족하여 고주파에서도 동작할 수 있음을 보였다. 또한, DC-DC 컨버터에 대하여 100 kHz의 스위칭 주파수로 동작시켜 컨버터가 일정한 주파수로 PWM 제어되는 특성을 비롯한 컨버터의 특성을 시뮬레이션과 실험으로 증명하였다.

  • Today we have excellent motor drive system using high frequency carrier PWM control voltage source inverter in the other hand, we have met serious problems caused by high frequency switching.   • In this paper, a new scheme of current programmed control for three phase PWM AC-AC converter is presented. By considering only the magnitude components, a similar scheme in the DC-DC converter can be extended to the three phase PWM AC-AC converter. The proposed current programmed control will be well adopted into various converter topologies though three phase PWM AC-AC boost converter is treated as an example. The converter analysis is carried out by applying the vector DQ transformation to obtain physical insight into the converter operation. Finally, the experiment result shows the validity of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, a new scheme of current programmed control for three phase PWM AC-AC converter is presented. Compared to duty-ratio voltage control, current programmed control has several advantages such as reduction of system order, inherent current protection and robust output. By considering only the magnitude components, a similar scheme in the DC-DC converter can be extended to the three phase PWM AC-AC converter. The proposed current programmed control will be well adopted into various converter topologies though three phase PWM AC-AC boost converter is treated as an example. The converter analysis is carried out by applying the vector DQ transformation to obtain physical insight into the converter operation and to establish some important characteristic equations for control purpose. The experiment results show the validity of the proposed scheme.

전기철도용 대용량 PWM 컨버터 기술개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Technology Development of High Capacity PWM Converter for Electric Vehicle)

  • Recently, interest in environmentally friendly transportation systems has been increasing, and study on railway systems has been aggressively conducted. Therefore, lots of studies have been done in railway advanced countries to improve performance of PWM converter. The research on the PWM converter for railway vehicle was mainly carried out on the converter mounted on railway vehicle such as the high-speed railway and metropolitan railway. In also, a lot of study has been carried out to improve converter performance installed in the ground. The high-capacity transform used in this paper converted from AC 22.9kV to AC 590V. The converter changed from AC 590V to DC 950V. In general, in the case of rectifier, the DC power supply system has a negative impact on inverter control characteristics because it can not avoid the pulsating component. In this study, it was performed current control for high-capacity converter using Matlab Simulink. The PWM converter is normally performed through the voltage and current at starting mode, powering mode, and braking mode. In the light-load test and the on-line test, we have studied for the PWM converter characteristics. Using this research, we have founded that the converter has excellent performance.

  • This paper presents a Single-phase Semi-Bridge PWM Converter, which features Continuos Conduction Mode and Phase-adjusted Unipolar PWM Method. The reduced conduction losses are achieved by the employment of a single converter, instead of the typical configuration composed of a front end rectifier followed by a boost converter. Theoretical principle of operation, a design example and Simulation results of a 3kW Semi-Bridge PWM converter with 220 Vrms input voltage and 400 Vdc output voltage are presented.

  • 본 논문에서는 스마트그리드의 핵심 설비 중 하나인 반도체 응용 고주파 변압의 개발을 위한 PWM 컨버터의 PWM 생성 방식과 그 구현에 관한 논문으로, H-bridge의 cascade 방식으로 구성된 PWM 컨버터의 경우 각 H-bridge간의 전압 balancing이 항상 이슈로 대두되는 바, 이러한 불균형은 대부분의 경우 각 H-bridge에 부가되는 스위칭 부하가 각각 균형적으로 분포되는 것이 불가능하기 때문에 발생하는 것으로 이를 해결하기 위해 종래의 경우 스위칭 패턴에 복잡한 리던던시를 추가하여 해결 하였으나, 본 논문에서 적용하는 방법은 이러한 리던던시가 불필요해 제어기의 부담을 저감할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 자동부하분담 PWM 방식(ALB-PWM)의 실 구현에 관하여 논하였다.

A Simple Resonant DC Link Snubber-Assisted Bi-directional Three-phase PWM Converter for Battery Energy Storage Systems

  • In this paper, a prototype of an active auxiliary quasi-resonant DC link (QRDCL) snubber assisted voltage source bidirectional power converter (AC to DC and DC to AC) operating at zero voltage soft-switching (BVS) PWM nlode is presented for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The operating principle of this QRDCL circuit and multifunctional control-based converter system, including PWM inverter mode in which energy flows from the battery bank to the three-phase utility-grid in addition to an active PWM converter mode in which energy flows from the utility-grid to the battery banks are described respectively by the control implementation on the basis of d-q coordinate plane transformation. The multifunctional operation characteristics of this three-phase ZVS PWM bi-directional converter with QRDCL is demonstrated fer a BESS under the power conditioning and processing schemes of energy supply mode and energy storage mode, and compared with a conventional three-phase hard switching PWM bi-directional converter for a BESS. The effectiveness of the three-phase ZVS PWM hi-directional converter with QRDCL is proven via the simulation analysis.

  • Presented increase and so on of switch stress and switching dissipation and EMI that is happened in general PWM converter and in this study to solve problem the resonance energy return to life rate and new active snubber PWM converter because do maximization. Active snubber PWM converter that try adds auxiliary switch and resonance capacitor, diode to existing converter under all switching conditions turn on/off Minimised switching dissipation that occur. Reduced harmonic components absorbing station recovery electric current that happen to snubber diode inserting diode and resistance. And decreased peak current that is happened in auxiliary switch arranging resonance capacitor and inductor properly, Certified effect that efficiency rises about 2.5[%] more than existent PWM converter in rated load through an experiment.
