A New Modified MPPM for High-Speed Wireless Optical Communication Systems

  • Previous work proposed combining multipulse pulse position modulation (MPPM) with pulse amplitude modulation to form multipulse amplitude and position modulation (MPAPM), which is a hybrid modulation that results in an improvement in bandwidth efficiency but a degradation in power efficiency. In this paper, to achieve greater power efficiency and a better data rate, we propose multipulse dual amplitude-width modulation, based on MPAPM and pulse width modulation. The proposed scheme shows a remarkable improvement in data rate and a 1.5-dB improvement in power efficiency over MPAPM, while sustaining the bandwidth efficiency. After introducing symbol structure, we present the theoretical expressions of spectral efficiency, the power requirements, and the normalized data rate, as well as the results of comparing the proposed modulation to MPPM and MPAPM.

  • This paper investigates a fast, accurate and inexpensive hydraulic motor speed control system using high speed on-off solenoid valves. In order to retain the advantages of the two position valve and obtain better performance, the valves are operated by pulse width modulation(PWM) control. PWM signal is generated from a LabWIEW program in microcomputer in order to set up various duty ratio and frequency of carrier wave in PWM signal with varying system parameters. As the results of experiments, the speed control of a hydraulic motor was successfully implemented using on-off solenoid valves. In order to attenuate the pressure ripple and speed variation due to discontinuously controlled flow through the on-off valves, a resonator hose fabricated for automobile power steering system was connected between the valve and a hydraulic motor. From experimental results obtained in the hydraulic motor system with a resonator hose, it was ascertained that the resonator hose showed excellent performances in reducing pressure ripple and motor speed variation.

An Equivalent Carrier-based Implementation of a Modified 24-Sector SVPWM Strategy for Asymmetrical Dual Stator Induction Machines

  • A modified space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) strategy based on vector space decomposition and its equivalent carrier-based PWM realization are proposed in this paper, which is suitable for six-phase asymmetrical dual stator induction machines (DSIMs). A DSIM is composed of two sets of symmetrical three-phase stator windings spatially shifted by 30 electrical degrees and a squirrel-cage type rotor. The proposed SVPWM technique can reduce torque ripples and suppress the harmonic currents flowing in the stator windings. Above all, the equivalent relationship between the proposed SVPWM technique and the carrier-based PWM technique has been demonstrated, which allows for easy implementation by a digital signal processor (DSP). Simulation and experimental results, carried out separately on a simulation system and a 3.0 kW DSIM prototype test bench, are presented and discussed.

Advanced Induction Heating Equipment using Dual Mode PWM-PDM Controlled Series Load Resonant Tank High Frequency Inverters

  • In this paper, a novel type auxiliary active edge resonant snubber assisted zero current soft switching pulse modulation Single-Ended Push Pull (SEPP) series load resonant inverter using IGBT power modules is proposed for cost effective consumer high-frequency induction heating (IH) appliances. Its operating principle in steady state is described by using each switching mode's equivalent operating circuits. The new multi resonant high-frequency inverter with series load resonance and edge resonance can regulate its high frequency output power under a condition of a constant frequency zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation principle on the basis of the asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme. Brand-new consumer IH products using the proposed ZCS-PWM series load resonant SEPP high-frequency inverter using IGBTs is evaluated and discussed as compared with conventional high-frequency inverters on the basis of experimental results. In order to extend ZCS operation ranges under a low power setting PWM as well as to improve efficiency, the high frequency pulse density modulation (PDM) strategy is demonstrated for high frequency multi-resonant inverters. Its practical effectiveness is substantially proved from an application point of view.

다중 주파수 재생을 위한 광대역 수중 음향 신호 증폭기 설계 연구 (A study on wideband underwater acoustic signal amplifier design for generating multi-frequency)

  • 본 논문에서는 수중에서 운용하는 임베디드 능동 음향탐지 시스템에 적용하기 위한 광대역 송신 전력 증폭기 설계/제작/시험 과정에서 발생된 문제를 분석하고 해결방안을 제시한다. 최근 수중음향 분야에서도 탐지 성능을 향상시키기 위해 광대역 소나(Sound Navigation and Ranging, SONAR) 신호처리 연구가 진행되고 있으며 이를 위한 광대역 수중음향 송수신 장치 개발이 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 임베디드 시스템 특성상 복잡하지 않고 구현이 간단한 2 레벨 톱니파 형태의 Class D 급 PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) 신호 생성 방식을 사용하여 광대역 수중음향 신호를 생성한 이후에, 송신 증폭기를 통하여 다양한 형태의 송신 파형을 재생하고 수중에서 실험을 하는 과정에서 두가지 이상의 주파수를 가진 소나 신호를 동시에 재생한 경우, 원신호에 두 신호의 주파수 차의 정수배만큼 더해진 기생 주파수가 나타나는 현상이 발생하여 원하지 않은 송신 음원이 재생되는 문제가 있음을 발견하였다. 이러한 문제점의 원인을 분석하기 위해 MATLAB 및 Simulink를 이용하여 송신 하드웨어 및 PWM 제어 과정을 모델링하고 시뮬레이션 하였으며, 시뮬레이션을 통해 문제점을 재현하고 해결방안을 제시한다.

Reconfigurable Selective Harmonic Elimination Technique for Wide Range Operations in Asymmetric Cascaded Multilevel Inverter

  • This paper presents a novel reconfigurable selective harmonic elimination technique to control harmonics over a wide range of Modulation Indexes (MI) in Multi-Level Inverter (MLI). In the proposed method, the region of the MI is divided into various sectors and expressions are formulated with different switching patterns for each of the sectors. A memetic BBO-MAS (Biogeography Based Optimization - Mesh Adaptive direct Search) optimization algorithm is proposed for solving the Selective Harmonic Elimination - Pulse Width Modulation (SHE-PWM) technique. An experimental prototype is developed using a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and their FFT spectrums are analyzed over a wide range of MI using a fluke power logger. Simulation and experimental results have validated the performance of the proposed optimization algorithms and the reconfigurable SHE-PWM technique. Further, the sensitivity of the harmonics has been analyzed considering non-integer variations in the magnitude of the input DC sources.

A Unified Carrier Based PWM Method In Multilevel Inverters

  • This paper presents a systematic approach to study the carrier based pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques applied to diode-clamped and cascade multilevel inverters by using multi-modulating patterns. This method is based on the description of controllable redundant parameters in the modulating signals. A unified mathematical formulation is presented for carrier based PWM methods, which obtains outputs similar to the corresponding space vector PWM. A full and separate control of the fundamental voltage, vector redundancies and phase redundancies can be obtained in the carrier based PWM. In this paper, the proposed PWM method and corresponding algorithm for generating multi-modulating signals will be formulated and demonstrated by our simulations.

  • 본 논문은 뉴랄퍼지를 이용한 디지탈식 제어기를 고주파 유도 가열기의 전력 조절을 위해 IGBT를 사용한 위상 전이(Phase-Shift) 펄스폭 변조(PWM)와 펄스 주파수 변조(PFM)가 조절되는 공진 고주파 인버터를 응용한 유도가열기를 설명한다. 이는 실제로 산업 현장에서 20KHz~500KHz 유도 가열 및 유도 용해 전원 장치용으로 쓰인다. 위상 전이(Phase-Shift) PWM 정전력 조절 기술을 바탕으로 한 적응 주파수 추종 기법은 스위칭 손실을 최소화하고 전력조절을 용이하게 하기 위해 소개되어졌다. IGBT를 사용하여 실험적으로 만들어진 실험장치는 성공적으로 논증과 토의가 되어졌다.

  • In this paper, a space vector concept is generalized for PWM(pulse-width modulated) inverters and PWM rectifiers with current link and voltage link respectively. Through representing three-phase variables as a space vector, we propose space vector modulations for PWM voltage and current source inverters, and PWM rectifiers with current link and voltage link. For these types, switching states of the switches are systematically analyzed from tables. It is shown in three-phase PWM rectifiers that power factor of the line current and output dc voltage can be controlled arbitrarily. The PWM rectifier with current link is also given as an example system.

  • 본 논문에서는 듀얼 액티브 브릿지에서 SPWM(Single Pulse Width Modulaton)과 DPWM(Dual Pulse Witdh Modulation)을 적용하였을 때, 인덕터 전류의 특성을 비교하고자 한다. 인덕터 전류의 특성을 이론적으로 분석하고, 실험을 통해서 결과를 분석하였다.
