Polymer foams were used to fill the void in the structure in addition to flame retardant and heat insulation. Polymer foams such as polyurethane, polyisocyanurate, poly(vinyl chloride), polyethylene terephthalate were used to weight lighting materials. In this study, epoxy foam was used to improve mechanical properties of polymer foam. Acid anhydride type hardener reacts with polyol. Using this phenomenon, if blowing agent was added into epoxy resin using acid anhydride type hardener, formation and compressive properties of epoxy foam was studied. Formation of polymer foam was compared with type of blowing agent and concentration of blowing agent via compressive test. As these results, optimized condition of epoxy foam was found and epoxy foam had better compressive property than other polymer foam.
Fabrication of human powered aircraft and flight test procedure for pilot training are included in this paper. To meet the weight requirement, very light materials such as carbon fiber and PVC foam are used and the final weight was 41.5kg. Ninety two times of flight test were done at Goheung Aviation Test Center from August to September 2012. When KARI were lack of know-how about human powered aircraft, damages on the aircraft were very frequent. After knowing how to fly and to control, one of two pilots was finally successful in flying further to 240m in the Human Powered Aircraft Contest.

It is considered that automobile inner space is dangerous due to its combustion characteristics. (Automobile interior is largely made by plastic materials.) At last it is necessary to study on combustion characteristics of automobile interior. we could obtain its rapid combustion velocity and high smoke density by using ASTM D 2863 apparatus, DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), Smoke density apparatus and so on. The study is summerized by following conditions and results. 1. Sample size was 150mm(length)$\times$60mmwidth). 2. Combustion velocity appeared peak point in the 2cm point. 3. PVC and foam layers are important factors in the face of smoke density. 4. Using DSC, we obtained the point that automobile interior was melted. 5. Automobile interior should be improved because of its low L.O.I value and rapid flame propagation velocity.

This paper aims to investigate the tow deformation pattern with respect to shear angle and mold property during draping of plain weave carbon/epoxy prepreg. Aluminum and PVC foams with different foam density are used for the draping hemisphere molds with 250 mm diameters. Microscopic observation reveals that tow parameters like crimp angle and Y-directional tow intervals are influenced by shear angle and mold density at the same time. The correlation between crimp angle and Y-directional tow interval is also found out.
The paper describes the results of an experimental and numerical investigation into the structural and damage response of sandwich composites to low-velocity impact. Sandwich panels consisting of laminated composite skins with three different layups bonded to a PVC foam core were subjected to impact at various energy levels corresponding to barely visible impact damage (BVID) in the impacted skins. Damage assessment analyses were performed on the impacted panels to characterise the extent and the nature of the major failure mechanisms occurring in the skins. The data collected during the experimental analyses were finally used to assess the predictive capabilities of an FE tool recently developed by the authors for detailed simulation of impact damage in composite sandwich panels. Good agreement was observed between experimental results and model predictions in terms of structural response to impact, global extent of damage and typical features of individual damage mechanisms.

In this paper, a comparative study of metallic and non-metallic stiffened plates under a lateral pressure load is performed using conventional statistically determinate and SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming) optimisation approaches. Initially, a metallic flat-bar stiffened plate is exemplified from the superstructure of a marine vessel and, subsequently, its structural topology is varied as hat-section stiffened FRP(Fibre Reinforced Plastics) single skin plates and monocoque FRP sandwich plates having a PVC foam core. These proposed structural alternatives are analysed using elastic closed-form solutions and SQP optimisation method under stress and deflection limits obtained from practice to calculate and optimise geometry dimensions and weights. Results obtained from the comparative study provide useful information for marine designers especially at the preliminary design stage where various building materials and structural configurations are dealt with.
The international standard for FT-IR gas analysis of fire effluents in ISO 5660-1 cone calorimeter has been being developed in ISO TC 92. A comparison of the round-robin test of WD 21397 was conducted with six participating laboratories in 2018. The test specimens were PMMA, rigid PU foam board, and PVC flooring. The measurement quantities were the time-to-ignition, peak heat release rate, total heat release, and effective heat of combustion for a cone calorimeter test and peak gas concentration, gas generation, and gas yield for FT-IR gas analysis. No outliers were identified. For the cone calorimeter quantities, the repeatability and reproducibility were 1.5% and 9.8%, respectively. For FT-IR gas analysis, the repeatability and reproducibility was 12.9% and 27.9%, respectively.

This paper describes the optimum design of bolt locations for metal joint parts of railway bogie frame made of glass fiber/epoxy 4-harness satin woven laminate composite and PVC foam core. The optimum design analysis was done by sub-problem approximation method using Ansys Parameter Design Language(APDL). The sub-modeling method was introduced to conduct the detailed recalculation for the only target parts and reduce calculating time. The structural analysis for composite bogie frame was performed according to JIS E 4207. The results showed that the optimum design analysis using sub-modeling method was able to obtain faster and more precise results than that of the entire model by the control of mesh size for the target parts, and the maximum Von-Mises stress has been reduced in comparison with its original dimensions due to the optimum design of bolt locations.

This paper is to analyze the behaviors of tunnel support by TDR(Time Domain Reflectometry) sensor using electrical pulse. To analysis the behaviors of tunnel support, Copper tape as sensing materials was studied for on-site installation. Copper tape to the top of the glass tape, foam tape, and shielding the lower part was used electromagnetic shield sheet. For a high sensitivity to load and fill out the measurement noise emissions has been developed for the production of materials. This sensing material through the tunnel model tests for the change by surcharge load in TDR data were analyzed. Varing stiffness and support of conditions were determined the change of TDR data through PVC pipe tunnel section model tests. By comparing TDR data and finite element analysis, the behaviors of the tunnel support materials were analyzed qualitatively.
