In this paper, an I-V characteristics of bypass diode has been studied by counting the shading effect in photovoltaic module. The shadow induces hot spot phenomenon in PV module due to the increase of resistance in the current path. Two different types of PV module with and without bypass diode were fabricated to expect maximum output power with an increasing shading rate of 5 % on the solar cell. Temperature distribution is also detected by shading the whole solar cell for the outdoor test. From the result, the bypass diode works properly over 60 % of shading per cell with constant output power. Maximum power generation in case of solar cell being totally shaded with bypass diode decreases 41.3 % compared with the one under STC(Standard Test Condition). On the other hand, the maximum output power of the module without bypass diode gradually decreases by showing hot spot phenomenon with the increase of shading ratio on the cell and finally indicates 95.5 % of power loss compared with the output under STC. Finally the module temperature measured increases around $10^{\circ}C$ higher than that under STC due to hot-spots which come from the condition without bypass diode. It has been therefore one of the main reasons for degrading the PV module and shortening the durability of the PV system.
Amid booming PV(photovoltaic) industry, BIPV(Building Integrated PV) is one of the best fascinating PV application technologies. To apply PV in building, variable factors should be reflected such as installation position, shading, temperature effect and so on. Especially a temperature should be considered, for it affects both electrical efficiency of PV module and heating and cooling load in building. Transparent PV modules were designed as finished material for spandrels are presented in this paper. The temperature variation of the modules with and without air gap and insulation were compared and analyzed. The results showed that the module with air gap and insulation has a much larger temperature variation than another transparent module. The temperature of the module reached by 55degree C under vertical irradiance of lower 500$W/m^2$. And the temperature difference between these modules was about 15degree C. To analyze the output performance of module according to temperature variation, separate module was manufactured and measured by sun-simulator. The results showed that 1 degree temperature rise reduced about 0.45% of output power.
BIPV is applied to buildings in various forms. However, there are some aspects of consideration in applying PV systems in buildings, such as attaching methods, PV electrical efficiency, appearance and so on. BIPV can be installed on curtain wall spandrel as finishing material, which may combine with insulation. The thermal characteristic of spandrel with BIPV has rarely been studied; the temperature of air space between PV module and insulation layer affects both the electrical behavior of PV module and the energy load in a building. This paper aims to analyse the temperature variation of the layers in BIPV spandrels. In this paper, the temperature of layers, including the air space and PV module, was measured for three different type of BIPV applications on spandrel. The results show that the temperature of air layer for the spandrel with G/G(2) type BIPV module on October was the highest among other months.
Recently, the thickness of solar cell gets thinner to reduce the quantity of silicon. And the reduced thickness make it easy to be broken while PV module fabrication process. This phenomenon might make PV module's maximum power and durability down. So, when using thin solar cell for PV module fabrication, it is needed to optimize the material and fabrication condition which is quite different from normal thick solar cell process. Normally, gel-content of EVA sheet should be higher than 80% so PV module has long term durability. But high gel-content characteristic might cause micro-crack on solar cell. In this experiment, we fabricated several specimen by varying curing temperature and time condition. And from the gel-content measurement, we figure the best fabrication condition. Also we examine the crack generation phenomenon during experiment.
Most solar photovoltaic (PV) modules frequently get shadowed, completely or partially, resulting in a reduction of PV generation. This paper presents and compares the results from simulations and experimental measurements of the power output from a single PV module under various shading conditions. The study was carried out with a 90 W PV module and a 250 W PV module. The shaded area was increased from 0 to 100% for both variable and constant irradiances to analyze the effect of fluctuations in the solar irradiance certain shading conditions. The effect of shading for irradiance levels from 100 to $900W/m^2$ was investigated. Results showed that for every $100W/m^2$ decrease in the solar irradiance level, the power output decreased by 9, 0.7 and 1.5 W at 0, 25 and 50% shading, respectively. For solar irradiance levels higher than $500W/m^2$, the temperature increased by 1.6, 2.7 and $1.1^{\circ}C$ at 0, 25 and 50% shading, respectively, for every $100W/m^2$ increase in the irradiance.
In this paper, a soft switching DC-DC converter for AC module type photovoltaic (PV) module integrated converter is proposed. A push-pull converter is suitable for a low voltage PV AC module system because the step-up ratio of a high frequency transformer is high and the number of primary side switches is relatively small. However, the conventional push-pull converters do not have high efficiency because of high switching losses by hard switching and transformer losses (copper and iron losses) by high turns-ratio of the transformer. In the proposed converter, primary side switches are turned on at zero voltage switching (ZCS) condition and turned off at zero current switching (ZVS) condition through parallel resonance between secondary leakage inductance of the transformer and a resonant capacitor. Therefore the proposed push-pull converter decreases the switching loss using soft switching of the primary switches. Also, the turns-ratio of the transformer can be reduced by half using a voltage-doubler of secondary side. The theoretical analysis of the proposed converter is verified by simulation and experimental results.
a-Si solar cell has relatively dominant drift current when compared with crystalline solar cell due to the high internal electric field. Such drift current make an impact on the PV module in the local shading. In this paper, the a-Si PV module output characteristics of shading effects was approached in terms of process condition, because of the different deposition layer of thin film lead to rising the resistance. We suggested design condition to ensure the long-term durability of the module with regard to the degradation factors such as hot spot by analyzing the module specification. The result shows a remarkable difference on module uniformity for each shading position. In addition, the unbalanced power loss due to power mismatch of each module could intensify the degradation.
PV module is conventionally connected in series with some solar cell to adjust the output of module. Some bypass diodes in module are installed to prevent module from hot spot and mismatch power loss. However, bypass diode in module exposed outdoor is easily damaged by surge voltage. In this paper, we study the thermal and electrical characteristics change of module with damaged bypass diode to easily find module with damaged bypass diode in photovoltaic system consisting of many modules. Firstly, the temperature change of bypass diode is measured according to forward and reverse bias current flowing through bypass diode. The maximum surface temperature of damaged bypass diode applied reverse bias is higher than that of normal bypass diode despite flowing equal current. Also, the output change of module with and without damaged bypass diode is observed. The output of module with damaged bypass diode is proportionally reduced by the total number of connected solar cells per one bypass diode. Lastly, the distribution temperature of module with damaged bypass diode is confirmed by IR camera. Temperature of all solar cells connected with damaged bypass diode rises and even hot spot of some solar cells is observed. We confirm that damaged bypass diodes in module lead to power drop of module, temperature rise of module and temperature rise of bypass diode. Those results are used to find module with a damaged bypass diode in system.

Photovoltaic (PV) are generally modeled using mathematical equations that describe the PV system behavior. Most of the modeling approach is very simple in terms of that PV module temperature is calculated from nominal constant cell temperature such as ambient temperature and incoming solar irradiance. In this paper, we newly present MATLAB model particularly embedding the effect of wind speed to describe more accurate cell temperature. For analyses and validate purpose of the proposed model, solar power is obtained and compared with and without wind speed from the 50Wp PV module provided by vendor datasheet. In the simulation result, we found that power output of the module is increased to 0.37% in terms of cell temperature a degreed down when we consider the wind speed in the model. This result is well corresponded with the well-known fact that normal PV is 0.4% power changed by cell temperature a degree difference. Therefore it shows that our modeling method with wind speed is more appropriate than the methods without the wind speed effect.
In this note, we show that a strongly 𝜙-ring R is a 𝜙-PvMR if and only if any 𝜙-torsion-free R-module is 𝜙-w-flat, if and only if any GV-torsion-free divisible R-module is nonnil-absolutely w-pure, if and only if any GV-torsion-free h-divisible R-module is nonnil-absolutely w-pure, if and only if any finitely generated nonnil ideal of R is w-projective.
