  • In this paper, we propose an audio surveillance system which can detect and localize dangerous sounds in real-time. The location information about dangerous sounds can render a PTZ camera to be directed so as to catch a snapshot image about the dangerous sound source area and send it to clients instantly. The proposed audio surveillance system firstly detects foreground sounds based on adaptive Gaussian mixture background sound model, and classifies it into one of pre-trained classes of foreground dangerous sounds. For detected dangerous sounds, a sound source localization algorithm based on Dual delay-line algorithm is applied to localize the sound sources. Finally, the proposed system renders a PTZ camera to be oriented towards the dangerous sound source region, and take a snapshot against over the sound source region. Experiment results show that the proposed system can detect foreground dangerous sounds stably and classifies the detected foreground dangerous sounds into correct classes with a precision of 79% while the sound source localization can estimate orientation of the sound source with acceptably small error.

  • A pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera-based monitoring system for efficient monitoring in the engine room of a vessel was designed. A number of places exist where traditional analog instruments are still used in vessel engine rooms, and blind spots closely related to safety exist, for which flooding or fire is a concern. A camera-based monitoring system that guarantees a wide range at a relatively fast cycle for these monitoring points can be an effective alternative to enhance the safety of a vessel. Therefore, a multiview monitoring system is proposed in which the functions of the existing PTZ camera are further strengthened using a software. The monitoring system comprises four modules: camera control, location registration, traversal control, and multiview image reconstruction. The effectiveness of the method was evaluated through a series of experiments in an engine room environment.

  • For the purpose of defining the effects of N-acyl groups on the anticonvulsant activities of N-acyl-$\alpha$-amino-glutarimides, various (R)- and (S)-N-acyl-$\alpha$-aminoglutarimide were prepared from the corresponding N-Cbz-glutamic acid and were evaluated their anticonvulsant activities in the MES and PTZ test, including their neurotoxicities. Among the tested compounds, only (R) N-cinnamoyl-$\alpha$-amino-N-methylglutarimide showed anticonvulsant activity in the MES and PTZ test. And the other tested compounds was active in the only PTZ test. The order of anticonvulsant activities in the PTZ test was as followes; for the (R) series, N-4-methoxycinnamoyl = cinnamoyl > N-4-nitrobenzoyl > N-benzoyl > N-phenylacetyl; for the (S) series, N-4-methoxycinnamoyl = N-3-nitrobenzoyl > N-4-nitrobenzoyl = N-cinnamoyl = N-phenylacetyl. From the above results, it was conceivable that the substituted N-acyl group had important effects on the anticonvulsant activities of these compounds. However stereoisomeric deferences in the anticonvulsant activities were not exhibited clearly.

  • PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera based surveillance systems are enlarging their field of application due to their wide observable area. We aimed to detect both static and moving objects in automated working space by using a PTZ camera. For object detection we used background difference method because of the high quality segmentation. However, the method has a problem called 'hole' that is caused by non-continuous surveillance of the PTZ camera and its own characteristics. Moreover, the occlusion which occurs when the moving object overlaps with the static object should be solved for robust object detection. In this paper, we suggest a region-based technique for updating background images thereby overcoming the hole and occlusion problem. Through experiments with real scenes, it was verified that meaningful static and/or moving objects were detected very well.

  • In this paper, we propose a tracking and recognition of pedestrian/vehicle for intelligent multi-visual surveillance system. The intelligent multi-visual surveillance system consists of several fixed cameras and one calibrated PTZ camera, which automatically tracks and recognizes the detected moving objects. The fixed wide-angle cameras are used to monitor large open areas, but the moving objects on the images are too small to view in detail. But, the PTZ camera is capable of increasing the monitoring area and enhancing the image quality by tracking and zooming in on a target. The proposed system is able to determine whether the detected moving objects are pedestrian/vehicle or not using the SVM. In order to reduce the tracking error, an improved camera calibration algorithm between the fixed cameras and the PTZ camera is proposed. Various experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • Objective and Methods : This study was performed to evaluate the anticonvulsant, antioxidant effect of modified formulas Korean traditional medicine Cheongsinhwadam-Jeon(CSHDJ). The extract of CSHDJ was administered (p.o.) to mice for 14 days in anticonvulsant and antioxidant tests. Results : The pretreatment of CSHDJ extract prohibited pentylenetrazol (PTZ)-induced convulsion. In PTZ-induced convulsion, lowered level of brain ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid(GABA) was restored normal state by the pretreatment of CSHDJ. Increased level of brain glutamic acid was lowered to normal state by CSHDJ, and increased activity of brain ${\gamma}-aminobutyric$ acid transaminase(GABA-T) was reduced to normal state by CSHDJ. In PTZ-induced convulsion, increased level of brain lipid peroxide was lowered to normal state by the pretreatment of CSHDJ. Increased activity of brain xanthine oxidase(XOD) was lowered by CSHDJ, and increased activity of brain aldehyde oxidase lowered to normal state by CSHDJ. In PTZ-induced convulsion, increased activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase in brain were lowered by the pretreatment of CSHDJ, whereas increased level of glutathione and increased activity of gluthathione peroxidase in brain were not changed significantly. Conclusions : Above results suggest that CSHDJ has anticonvulsant, antioxidant effect. That seems to be strongly related with the levels of GABA, glutamate, lipid peroxide and the activities of GABA-T, XOD, aldehyde oxidase, SOD, catalase in brain tissue. From these results, CSHDJ could be applied to various convulsive disorders.

  • In this paper, we propose a collaborative tracking algorithm for intelligent video surveillance systems using the multiple network cameras. To do this, each camera detects a moving object and it's movement direction by motion templates. Once a moving object is detect, the Kalman filter is used to reduce noises, and a collaborative tracking camera is selected according to the movement direction and the camera state. In this procedure, Pan-Tilt-Zoom(PTZ) parameters are assigned to obtain clear images. Finally, some experiments show the validity of the proposed method.

  • In connection with the development of new anticonvulsant agents with a broad spectrum, we reported that N-Cbz-alpha-aminoglutarimides, combining common structures of othe r anticonvulsants such as N-CO-C-N and cyclic imides in a single molecule, showed significant anticonvulsant activities in the MES (maximal electroshock seizure) and PTZ (pentylenetetrazole induced seizure) tests. In these studies, a series of (R) and (S) N-alkyloxycarbonyl-alpha-aminoglutarimides 7a-7e and 8a-8e, which were substituted with various alkyloxycarbonyl group instead of Cbz group, were prepared from the corresponding (R) and (S) N-Cbz-glutamic acid 3 and 4, and were evaluated with their anticonvulsant activities against the MES and PTZ tests, including neurotoxicity, in order to define the effect of N-alkyloxycarbonyl group on the anticonvulsant activities of N-alkyloxycarbonyl-${\alpha}$-aminoglutarimides. Among them, (S)N-4-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl-${\alpha}$-amino-N-methylglutarimide 8e was the most active in MES ($ED_{50}$=35.6mg/kg, PI=2.7) and PTZ tests ($ED_{50}$=15.6, PI=6.1). Interestingly, (R) and (S) N-4-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl-${\alpha}$-amino-N-methylglutarimide 7e and 8e and (R) N-phenoxycarbonyl-${\alpha}$-amino-N-methylglutrimide 7d showed significant anti-convulsant activities in both the MES and PTZ tests and other compounds showed anticonvulsant activities in only the PTZ test. In addition, it was found that their anticonvulsant activities were dependent on their stereochemistries and N-substituted alkyloxycarbonyl groups.

  • An effective dual-mode camera system(a passive wide-angle camera and a pan-tilt-zoom camera) is proposed in order to improve the performance of visual surveillance. The fixed wide-angle camera is used to monitor large open areas, but the moving objects on the images are too small to view in detail. And, the PTZ camera is capable of increasing the monitoring area and enhancing the image quality by tracking and zooming in on a specific moving target. However, its FOV (Field of View) is limited when zooming in on a specific target. Therefore, the cooperation of wide-angle and PTZ cameras is complementary. In this paper, we propose an automatic initial set-up algorithm and coordinate transform method from the wide-angle camera coordinate to the PTZ one, which are necessary to achieve the cooperation. The automatic initial set-up algorithm is able to synchronize the views of two cameras. When a moving object appears on the image plane of a wide-angle camera after the initial set-up positioning, the obtained values of the wide-angle camera should be transformed to the PTZ values based on the coordinate transform method. We also develope the PTZ control method. Various in-door and out-door experiments show that the proposed dual-camera system is feasible for the effective visual surveillance.
