  • In this study, a latching control technology, proposed by Sheng et al.(2015), was applied in order to maximize the extraction efficiency of WEC (Wave Energy Converter), which is the heaving buoy coupled with linear electric generator. The latching control is the phase-control technique for improving the wave energy conversion with appropriate latching duration of keeping the buoy fixed. From the time-domain analysis in regular waves, the latching control technology can significantly improve the heave velocity and extracted power, even though the resonance condition is not satisfied. By using the latching control technology, the draft of buoy as well as the required PTO damping force can be significantly reduced along with increased extracted power, which is a big advantage in manufacturing the WEC.

  • The resonance power buoy is a convincing tool that can increase the extraction efficiency of wave energy. The buoy needs a corresponding draft, to move in resonance with waves within the peak frequency band where wave energy is concentrated. However, it must still be clarified if the buoy acts as an effective displacement amplifier, when there is insufficient water depth. In this study, the vertical displacement of a circular cylinder-type buoy was calculated, with the spectrum data observed in a real shallow sea as the external wave force, and with the corresponding draft, according to the mode frequency of normal waves. Such numerical investigation result, without considering Power Take-Off (PTO) damping, confirmed that the area of the heave responses spectrum can be amplified by up to about tenfold, compared with the wave energy spectrum, if the draft corresponds to the peak frequency, even with insufficient water depth. Moreover, the amplification factor of the buoy varied, according to the seasonal changes in the wave spectra.

  • In this study, a six degree-of-freedom motion analysis of a wind-wave hybrid platform equipped with numerous wave energy converters (WECs) was carried out. To examine the effect of the WECs on the platform, an analysis of one-way coupling was carried out, which only considered the power take-off (PTO) damping of the static WECs on the platform. The equation of motion of a floating platform with mooring lines in the time domain was established, and the responses of the one-way coupled platform were then compared with the case of a platform without any coupling effects from the WECs. The hydrodynamic coefficients and wave exciting forces were obtained from the 3D diffraction/radiation pre-processor code WAMIT based on the boundary element method. Then, an analysis of the dynamic responses of the floating platform with or without the WEC effect in the time domain was carried out. All of the dynamics of a floating platform with multiple wind turbines were obtained by coupling FAST and CHARM3D in the time domain, which was further extended to include additional coupled dynamics for multiple turbines. The analysis showed that the PTO damping effect on platform motions was negligible, but coupled effects between multiple WECs and the platform may differentiate the heave, roll, and pitch platform motions from the one without any effects induced by WECs.

  • Parametric study on submerged body shape of an oscillating hemisphere point absorber was conducted to predict the optimal relation between radius and draft of the body. As an additional damping due to power takeoff system, the optimal damping same as wave radiation damping was applied to the PTO system to produce the maximum wave power. Body response spectrum and power spectrum were obtained for various peak frequencies on wave spectra. It was found that the maximum power can be generated when the peak frequency of available wave power was 20% greater than that of wave spectrum.

  • Underwater wireless communication is a challenging issue for realizing the smart aqua-farm and various marine activities for exploring the ocean and environmental monitoring. In comparison to acoustic and radio frequency technologies, the visible light communication is the most promising method to transmit data with a higher speed in complex underwater environments. To send data at a speedier rate, high-performance photodetectors are essentially required to receive blue and/or cyan-blue light that are transmitted from the light sources in a light-fidelity (Li-Fi) system. Here, we fabricated high-performance organic phototransistors (OPTs) based on P-type donor polymer (PTO2) and N-type acceptor small molecule (IT-4F) blend semiconductors. Bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) PTO2:IT-4F photo-active layer has a broad absorption spectrum in the range of 450~550 nm wavelength. Solution-processed OPTs showed a high photo-responsivity >1,000 mA/W, a large photo-sensitivity >103, a fast response time, and reproducible light-On/Off switching characteristics even under a weak incident light. BHJ organic semiconductors absorbed photons and generated excitons, and efficiently dissociated to electron and hole carriers at the donor-acceptor interface. Printed and flexible OPTs can be widely used as Li-Fi receivers and image sensors for underwater communication and underwater internet of things (UIoTs).

  • This study deals with output characteristics of a hybrid power generation system for a vehicle such as a crane, a fire engine, and a wingbody. The proposed method obtains the commercial AC voltage of single phase 220V/60Hz by connecting a variable speed three-phase PMSG(Permanent magnetic synchronous generator) and an AC/DC/AC power converter to PTO (Power take off) or hydraulic motor. The proposed system is fabricated and tested to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed system.

  • A variable flow-controlled boom sprayer was developed and evaluated. Field tests were conducted to evaluate the adoptability of the sprayerr with optimal conditions. Negative response time was obtained from the field test because pump and PTO were interlocked with the speed of sprayer. Another reason for the negative value was due to the definition of the response time. With constant on-time control, the system was unstable at the conditions of small tolerance and long control interval. The performances of the spray system were stable and accurate. The stable and synchronous responses were achieved with a variable on-time control. The flow control system with an optimal condition (1.0 sec of control interval, 2 of damping ratio, 1% of tolerance) provided the proper performance for uniform spraying. A standard operating procedure of the flow compensating boom sprayer for the ground speed variation was presented and recommended.

  • One of the obstructing factors against managing dairy fm has been heavy labor requirement for feeding dairy cows. A Power-tiller TMF mixer was developed to reduce the cost and to provide economic benefit. The TMF mixer was desisted by the feeding capacity of 20∼30 heads at a batch with various functioning systems of auger type mixer, delivery conveyer, weighing console, pipe heater type heating system, power transmission train and mounting trailer. According to the study resulted, it showed that 1,200rpm, 1,600rpm, 2,000rpm and 2,300rpm were 6ps. Bps, lops and 12ps respectively. and that reduced shaft output by 15%. On the fodder mixer attached powertiller, initial output was necessary large torque. And the heating system was maintaining uniform temperature 60$^{\circ}C$ relatively.

  • This study was to investigate performance of position, basic controls and additional control for man-machine interface on a 3-point hitch of a tractor. The developed additional control was one-touchup, backup, turnup, liftarm limited, PTO on/off and an external control. As a result of experiment, maximum steady state error of response system was lower than $0.8^{\circ}$ and this result showed the function operated normally because the dead band of system set was ${\pm}1^{\circ}$. There was no abnormal situation by switch operation and sensor signal during the performance test. The results of experiment showed the characteristics of the response was sufficient to be used as the position and additional control system for tractors.

  • The wave power, extracted from a circular array of small power buoys, is investigated under the potential theory. It is assumed that the buoy's radius, the draft, and the separation distance are much smaller than the water depth, the wave length, and the radius of a circular deployment area. The boundary value problem involving the macro-scale boundary condition on the mean surface covered by buoys is solved using the eigenfunction expansion method. The capture width, which is defined as the ratio of the extracted power to the wave power per unit length of the incident wave crest, is assessed for various combinations of packing ratio, radius of a circular array, and PTO damping coefficient. It is found that the circular array deployment is more effective in the viewpoint of efficiency than the single large buoy of the same total displaced volume.
