  • This paper deals with the transient performance of an induction generator in a wind power plant. An induction generator and grid equipment may be damaged when a sudden disturbance occurs, for example, a sudden disconnection from the utility grid. The reasons for this are over-voltage and over speed. This paper analyzes this phenomena using PSCAD/EMTDC and coincides with its corresponding mathematical equation.

  • This paper presents exact autotransformer-fed AC electric railroad system modeling using constant current mode, and single-phase STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compensator) which has an effect on electric railroad system. An AC electric railroad is rapidly changing single-phase feeding electric power. To avoid voltage fluctuation under single phase loads, electric power should be received from a large source. The system modeling theory is based on the solution of algebraic. The AC electric railroad load model is nonlinear. Therefore this paper is considered nonlinear load using PSCAD/EMTDC. And the proposed modeling method is considered the line self-impedances and mutual-impedances that techniques for the AC electric railroad system modeling analysis, and that single-phase STATCOM can reliably compensate the voltage drop. In the case study, the allowance range of feeding voltage is 22.5∼27.5 kV, AT-fed AC electric railroad system circuit is analyzed by loop equation both normal and extension modes. The simulation objectives are to calculate the catenary and rail voltages with respect to ground, as the train moves along a section of line between two adjacent ATs. The results show that single-phase STATCOM can reduce the voltage drop in the feeding circuit and improve the power quality at AC electric railroad system by compensating the reactive power.

  • High quality power supplying of high voltage distribution lines electric railway system is the important function, high voltage distribution system is complicated witch is compose with distribution line, circuit break, protection facilities and so on. Among this components, role of substation is most important for elevation of reliability in electric power system. Therefore, the enhanced reliability considering the preventive inspection, repair work replacement is necessary. This paper proposes protection method in railway high voltage distribution lines. we model distribution system using PSCAD/EMTDC(Power System Computer Aided Design/Electro Magnetic Transients DC Analysis Program) and extract various fault data. In conclusion this methods can protection of ground fault.

  • This paper proposes a novel simulation method of WPGS (Wind Power Generation System). The rotation speed control method of turbine under variable wind speed using the pitch control is proposed. Moreover, when wind speed exceeds the cut-out wind speed, the turbine will be stopped by controlling pitch angle to 90$^{\circ}$, otherwise it will be controlled to steady-state operation. For the purpose of effective simulation, the SWRW (Simulation method for WPGS using Real Weather condition) is used for the utility interactive WPGS simulation in this paper, in which those of three topics for the WPGS simulation: user-friendly method, applicability to grid-connection and the utilization of the real weather conditions, are satisfied. It is impossible to consider the real weather conditions in the WPGS simulation using the EMTP type of simulators and PSPICE, etc. External parameter of the real weather conditions is necessary to ensure the simulation accuracy. The simulation of the WPGS using the real weather conditions including components modeling of wind turbine system is achieved by introducing the interface method of a non-linear external parameter and FORTRAN using PSCAD/EMTDC in this paper. The simulation of long-term, short-term, over cut-out and under cut-out wind speeds will be peformed by the proposed simulation method effectively. The efficiency of wind power generator, power converter and flow of energy are analyzed by wind speed of the long-term simulation. The generator output and current supplied into utility can be obtained by the short-term simulation. Finally, transient-state of the WPGS can be analyzed by the simulation results of over cut-out and under cut-out wind speeds, respectively.

  • AC electric railroad system receives its power from 3-phase transmission system, Since, trainloads are changing continuously, the voltages for the single-phase load fluctuate in the train garage, and moreover, the fluctuating voltages generate high-order harmonics. This means that there is the difficulty in maintaining power quality in the power system. Therefore, a Static Var Compensator(SVC), which in general compensates the reactive power, is used in order to balance the trainload. In this paper, PSCAD/EMTDC is used for the analysis of harmonic generation in the train garage using SVC. The Total Harmonic Distortion(THD) of voltages is calculated using PSCAD/EMTDC dynamic simulation. As a result, the train garage using SVC improves power quality.

  • Three-phase multi-layer high temperature superconducting coaxial (TPMHTSC) cable is being actively studied due to advantages such as the reduction of the amount of superconducting wire usage and the miniaturization of the cable. The electrical characteristics of TPMHTSC cables differ from those of conventional superconducting cables, so sufficient analysis is required to apply them to the actual system. In this paper, the authors modeled 22.9 kV, 60 MVA TPMHTSC cable and analyzed the transient characteristics using a PSCAD/EMTDC-based simulation. As a result, when a fault current flows in TPMHTSC cable, most of the fault current is bypassed through the copper former layers. At this time, the total cable temperature increased by about 5 K. Through this study, we can verify the reliability of the TPMHTSC cable against the transient state, and it can be helpful for the practical application of the cable in the future.

  • Recently, the large scaled energy storage system(ESS) which has various functions such as peak saving, demand management, output stabilization of renewable energy and frequency regulation(FR) is being energetically installed and operated. Especially, as the use case of frequency regulation ESS, the KEPCO has demonstrated the total of 376[MW] ESS since 2014. However, there are no operational experiences and international technical standards on frequency regulation application in ESS. Therefore, this paper propose the evaluation algorithm for power system performance of ESS by considering the frequency characteristics between governor of existing generator and frequency regulation ESS, in order to verify the power system performance of ESS. And also, this paper propose an evaluation modeling for small scaled power system including the existing generator, frequency control ESS and customer loads based on the PSCAD/EMTDC S/W. From the simulation results in 360[MW] model power system, it is confirmed that frequency regulation ESS has better performances than conventional generators.
