Reliability analysis for a proposed limit state bridge design code is performed. In order to introduce reliability concept to design code, the proposed live load model is based on truck weight survey. Test data of domestic material strengths are collected to model statistical properties of member strengths. Sample RC and PSC girder sections are designed following the safety factor format of the proposed code and compared with the current design practice. Reliability indexes are calculated and examined for material and member resistance factor formats and sample calibrations of safety factors are presented. It is concluded that the proposed code provides reasonable level of reliability compared to the international design standards.

In bridge deck systems, deflections and cracking can be controlled by longitudinal and transverse prestressing, There are some benefits, longitudinal cracking control, the thickness reduction of deck slab, the widening of deck width and the reduction of the cross section area, in transversely post-tensioned concrete box girder bridges. However, it has been not sufficient to study the structural behaviors of transversely post-tensioned concrete box girder. Therefore, It is needed to predict the structural behaviors by prestressing and static loading. In this study, the analytical and experimental load tests are carried out to study the effect of transverse prestressing on concrete box girder. For these objectives, four test specimens are fabricated with various tendon spacing and steel ratio of top slab. The analytical and experimental studies are performed to estimate effects of the prestressing and failure tests.

A quantitative approach for the retrofit prioritization of bridges is developed based on the damage risk of seismic vulnerable components. In the developed approach, seismic damage risk is estimated in the probabilistic perspectives with an analytical bridge model, which can consider various phenomena found in the seismic behaviors of girder-type bridges and damage models of various vulnerable components. Based on the total cost due to failure of structural components, weighting factors are proposed. Finally, the ranking index and retrofit priority of bridges are estimated from the overall damage risk and weighting factors of bridges. As a result, the retrofit priority of four PSC girder bridges is evaluated by using the proposed approach. The vulnerable components in need of seismic retrofit are selected accordingly. From simulated results, the validity of the proposed approach is verified by comparison with the existing approach. In addition, the proposed approach is found to be appropriate in evaluating the priority of existing bridges.

Future performance prediction of bridges is challenging task for structural engineers. Well-organized information from design, construction and operation stages is essential for the assessment of structures. Digital twin model is a new concept to realize more reliable data platform for management of infrastructures. Damage history including degradation of material, cracking, corrosion, etc. needs to be accumulated in the digital model. The digital model is linked to the analysis model for the assessment of structural performance considering changed mechanical properties of structural components. In this paper, initial definition digital twin model of a PSC-I girder bridge is proposed.

In this study, we have proposed a method of monitoring of bridges under construction in view of the long-term behavior of the prestress concrete bridge of which the Free Cantilever Method is applied. As a method to confirm the ability of the long-term behavior of the concrete box girder, temperature sensors and strain gauges were installed, and the measured data was used to calculate creep coefficient. Moreover, we have measured the stress of the concrete box girder during construction which was applied with creep coefficient and compared with the changes in temperature to analyze the vertical displacement along the segment. In conclusion, monitoring of the FCM bridge during construction in consideration of the long-term behavior can be analyzed efficiently by suing temperature and displacement data without the use of laser displacement meter or laser delfectometer.

The aim of this study is to develop a 3-dimensional dynamic analysis model, capable of considering the interaction between vehicles and bridges more accurately. The dynamic analysis model is developed with the high-speed train (KTX) and a 2-span continuous prestressed concrete box girder bridge with a double track. The 20-car model is developed using the moving vehicle model for the regular trainset. Three-dimensional frame elements are used for the bridge model. Using the developed models, a dynamic behavior analysis program is coded. The analytical results are compared with the dynamic field test results and found to be valid to yield quite accurate dynamic responses. Based on the results of this study, the hybrid model, made up of the moving vehicle model for the heaviest power car and the moving force model for the other cars, is quite simple and effective without loosing the accuracy that much. Under the coincidence condition of two trains traveling with resonance velocity in the opposite directions, it is necessary to check not only the dynamic responses of the bridge with one-way traffic but those with two- way coincidence.

According to the development of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), its mechanical performance have been known as superior than normal and/or high performance concrete. However, its construction and structural safety must have studied with revisions and supplements. In this study, tests have been performed on UHPC precast segment joint with different levels of joint types and lateral forces under direct shear. From the results of the experimental tests, it can be concluded that the properties of the referred joints are significant for the resistance of shear behavior, and the increase of lateral force in these joints may suggest as critical lateral stress on that behavior.

Maglev is a system that a train runs levitated above a rail. Therefore it is very important to maintain a constant levitation gap for achieving serviceability and ride comfort. This study is a cooperation research subject of the 3-1 subject, performance improvement of maglev track structures, of the Center for Urban Maglev Program in Korea, started in 2006. The aim of this study is development of rapid constructions of bridge superstructure for maglev. At present, precast deck is widely used because of its superiority to cast-in-place concrete on quality and the term of works. The research group suggested basic systems of maglev guideway with PSC-U type and trapezoidal open steel box type girder, and precast deck, cooperating with Korea Railroad Research Institute, the managing institute of the 3-1 subject. In this study, full-scale structure was fabricated for structural safety evaluation of precast decks and rail, and a static performance test of those structures was performed.
