  • KARI has jointly developed COMS bipropellant propulsion system with EADS Astrium, UK. It is well known at the moment about American or even German efforts for space development and space propulsion activities. On the contrary UK's capability for space development hasn't been recognised well in Korea. The major space activities relevant to the development of chemical and electric propulsion systems in UK, in reference to our space propulsion programme are addressed in detail. In addition the collaboration in prospect between two countries is proposed.

  • The Inner Arch developed several softwares: $\circ$ One dedicated to solid propulsion project : APSOL $\circ$ One dedicated to liquid propulsion projects ELIS A third one, PERFOL, is used to optimize the trajectory and the propulsion parameters The paper will describe the main software used for this study and illustrate the interest of these tools to make the first design of a new version of a launch vehicle with optimisation both of intrinsic propulsion parameters and of the trajectory.

  • The longitudinal instability (POGO) of the rocket should not be occurred during the whole flight time for the large class liquid propulsion system to complete a mission successfully. The longitudinal instability is caused by the resonance between the propulsion system and rocket structure in the low frequency range below 50Hz, ordinarily. Analysis on the low frequency dynamic characteristics on the liquid propulsion system with staged combustion cycle engine system was performed as a preliminary study on the longitudinal instability analysis.

  • "KAGUYA"(SELENE) is a Japanese Lunar Explorer launched by H-IIA rocket from Tanegashima Space Center on 14 September 2007. The dual-mode bipropellant propulsion subsystem of KAGUYA includes two fuel tanks, an oxidizer tank, propellant and pressurant control components, twelve monopropellant 20N thrusters, eight monopropellant 1N thrusters, and a bipropellant 500N Orbit Maneuver Engine(OME). Once the KAGUYA separated from the rocket, it circled the Earth twice and traveled to the Moon, where it entered lunar orbit. All maneuvers were performed through multiple 500N OME/20N thruster firings. This paper describes the in-space performance of KAGUYA Lunar Explorer bipropellant propulsion subsystem.

  • 한국 해군은 짧은 역사에도 불구하고 많은 전함을 운용하고 있다. 잠수함, 구축함, 호위함, 고속함 등 다양한 유형의 함정을 보유하고 있다. 각각의 함정은 운영 요구 사항에 적합한 추진시스템을 사용한다. 하이브리드 추진시스템은 함정의 기술발전에 따라 기계추진시스템에서 기계-전기추진시스템으로 발전하고 있으며, 향후 통합 전기추진시스템도 도입될 것으로 기대된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 한국 해군이 운용하는 주요 함정의 추진체계를 조사하고, 향후 해군력의 변화를 예측하여 향후 해군 함정추진체계를 제안한다.

  • Waterjet propulsion generally refers to propulsion of ships by internally mounted pumps with proper ducting. This arrangement of the actuator component of the system leads to the fundamental differences with respects to screw propeller system. In this paper, the basic hydrodynamic characteristics of waterjet propulsion was outlined to clarify the application consideration and proposal for carrying out model self-propulsion tests with waterjet propelled models was presented. The results of model self-propulsion tests carried out in the Hyundai Maritime Research Institute towing tank with catamaran ship were presented.

  • This paper introduces the ship propulsion system in different aspects. In fact there are many types to accomplish electric propulsion. The latest installations are based on fixed generator speed and motor speed control.   • The technology relevant to a bipropellant propulsion system is quite new one in Korea, which is being transferred for the first time, with development of COMS propulsion system. It hasn't ever attempted before, and hasn't got any general idea itself as well, in Korea. The technical heritage of UK bipropellant propulsion pertinent to COMS propulsion system is scrutinised mainly. Furthermore the strong possibility of COMS CPS for the moon explorer mission is rationalised on the basis of the history of successful predecessors.

  • Toasting the 100 year anniversary of controlled, powered flight, the propulsion system used on today's aircraft represents the evolution of jet propulsion based on the gas turbine, first conceived by Whittle and Von Ohain about 70 years ago. In that period, propulsion system concepts have evolved through turbo-props, turbo-jets, low by-pass ratio(BPR) turbofans to today's high BPR 2-shaft and 3-shaft turbofans. Also, this period has seen remarkable progress in the performance, reliability environmental compatibility of these propulsion systems.(omitted)
