  • When a servo position controller of a robot or a driving units is composed of a PID controller, servomechanism which is modelled is composed of current, velocity and position control loops. After this model is simulated, the technique operating gain of each controller is suggested. The model consists of current, velocity and position controllers from the inside to the outside gradually. Also, to combine velocity and position controllers with 2 order system, simulation is performed after current controllers are composed, which are able for current loop to work ideally. If a current controller is treated with constant, it is possible for velocity and position controller to consist of controller into 2 order system. The technique is verified by applying T-company servo motor which is much more applied to current, velocity and position controller robots.

  • This paper presents the design of a proportional-integral (PI)-proportional-derivative (PD) position controller without using a speed controller in motor drive systems. Unlike the existing PI-PD position controller design methods, the proposed controller is designed by reducing the entire position control system to a second-order transfer function. Thus, the gain values for the PI-PD position controller can be determined easily by a given bandwidth of the position controller. The PI-PD position controller designed by the proposed method is adopted for position control in an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system to confirm the validity of the proposed design method. The effectiveness of the proposed design method is confirmed through experiments.

  • In this paper, PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) sensor system that estimates position for moving objects in 2D plane is developed. PSD sensor is used to measure the position of an incidence light in real-time. To get the position of light source of moving target, a new parameter calibration algorithm and neural network technique are proposed and applied. Real-time position measurements of the mobile robot with light source is examined to validate the proposed method. It is shown that the proposed technique provides accurate position estimation of the moving object.

  • This paper proposes a link model that can provide the spacial position along the surface of the earth as an information or data using ePosition ID through the Internet. Moreover, to support the information service of maritime position, it needs the ENC linked technique based on S-57 that is an IHO transfer standard for digital hydrographic data. Therefore, it designs the linked model for applying and utilizing the ePosition technology with ENC data, as well as supplementing the base technology in applying them to marine related fields. As a study method, this paper first analyses ENC data model and structure, and converses for processing of ENC file to ePosition data. Finally, it derives the interconnection method with ePosition database and shows the ePosition service application based on the linked ENC data and its validity.

  • An real-time active beacon localization system for mobile robots is developed and implemented. This system permits the estimation of robot positions when detecting light sources by PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) sensor which are placed sparsely over the robots work space as beacons(or landmarks). An LSE(Least Square Estimation) method is introduced to calibrate the internal parameters of a model for the beacon and robot position. The proposed system has two operational modes of position estimation. One is the initial position calculation by the detection of two or more light sources positions of which are known. The other is the continuous position compensation that calculates the position and heading of the robot using the IEKF(Iterated Extended Kalman Filter) applied to the beacon and dead-reckoning data. Practical experiments show that the estimated position obtained by this system is precise enough to be useful for the navigation of robots.

  • This paper presents a compensation algorithm for position error due to an amplitude imbalance between resolver output signals. Resolvers are typically used to obtain absolute position information for motor drive systems in severe environments. Position error is caused by an amplitude imbalance of the resolver output signals. As a result, the d- and q-axis currents of synchronous reference frame have periodic ripples in the stator fundamental frequency in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive systems. Therefore, this paper proposes a compensation algorithm to reduce the position error generated by the amplitude imbalance. The proposed method does not require any additional hardware, and reduces computation time with a simple integral operation according to rotor position. In addition, the position error can be directly compensated for by the estimated position error. The effectiveness of the proposed compensation algorithm is verified through several simulations and experiments.

  • A method for driving and position sensing of TSRM(Toroidal Switched Reluctance Motor) using the search coil is presented in this paper. Position information of the rotor is essential for SRM drives. The rotor position sensor such as an opto-interrupter or high performance encoder is generally used for the estimation of rotor position. However, these discrete position sensors not only add complexity and cost to the system but also tend to reduce the reliability of the drive system. In order to solve these problems, in the proposed method, rotor position detection is achieved using the voltage waveforms induced by the time varying flux linkage in the search coils, and then the appropriate phases are excited to drive the SRM. But the search coil EMF is generated only when the motor rotates. Therefore the rotor position sensing method at standstill is also suggested.

  • The tests on the oral capacties which are divided into five groups on centric occlusion position, physiologic rest position, two mm open bite position, four mm open bite position, and maximum opening position of the mandible were conducted on the one hundread normal dental college students and staffs. The aims were to study the changeability of the fundamental oral structure, to get some helpful informations for the full denture wearers and related physiology, and also to find out further experimental standards. The results were as follows; 1. There was also some volumetric space in centric occlusion position. 2. The greater the voluntary opening degree of the mandible was, the greater the oral volumetric capacity was. 3. There were no correlations between the oral capacity and height, weight, and cheek thickness. 4. There were no correlations between the centric occlusion position and physiologic rest position, and voluntary positions of the mandible. 5. The inserted material into the oral cavity was much influential to the physiologic rest position.

  • This paper presents a position sensorless control system of SRM over wide speed range. Due to the doubly salient structure of the SRM, the phase inductance varies along with the rotor position. Most of the sensorless control techniques are based on the fact that the magnetic status of the SRM is a function of the angular rotor position. The rotor position estimation of the SRM is somewhat difficult because of its highly nonlinear magnetizing characteristics. In order to estimate more accurate rotor position over wide speed range, Neural Network is used for this highly nonlinear function approximation. Magnetizing data patterns of the prototype 1-hp SRM are obtained from locked rotor test, and used for the Neural Network training data set. Through measurement of the flux-linkage and phase currents, rotor position is able to estimate from current-flux-rotor position lookup table which is constructed from trained Neural Network. Experimental results for a 1-hp SRM over 16:1 speed range are presented for the verification of the proposed sensorless control algorithm.
