  • It is well known that the loss factor and Young's modulus are fundamental mechanical properties of materials. Recently, the use of complex plastics is increasing for vibration proof. In this study, we evaluated two mechanical values of polycarbonate and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene by using two different standard test methods of ASTM E 756 and ISO 6721. Because damping properties of material generally depend on temperature, test specimen‘s temperature were controlled in the temperature range between - $10^{\circ}C\;and\;60^{\circ}C$. The results shown that the loss factor of polycarbonate gradually increased as increasing temperature, while the Young's modulus decreased. However, the loss factor and the Young's modulus of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene are varied somewhat at $60^{\circ}C$.

  • By combining ultrasonic energy which is essential for the chain scission of polymer molecules and a multifunctional agent (MFA) having double bonds at its ends, we were able to modify the molecular structure of polycarbonate (PC) from linear to a branched structure during melt processing. The three double bonds in chain ends of MFA were expected to act as sites for trapping macroradicals of PC during the course of ultrasound-assisted mixing process. The transformation of molecular structure of PC was confirmed by the measurements of rheological properties of the modified PC. After the ultrasonic irradiation of PC together with MFA, increase in complex viscosities and shear-thinning behavior were observed. The Cole-Cole plot and measurement of extensional viscosities revealed the characteristic features of branched structure with well-defined extensional behavior which is comparable to that of a commercial branched PC.

  • There was little development in transparent conductive polymer films and their limited studies have been mainly focused on polymer films coated by water-soluble PEDOT doped with the polymeric counteranion poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT-PSS)[1-3]. However PEDOT-PSS as coating material has some difficulties because of high viscosity and low solubility in organic solvent except for in water. In this study, in order to extend practical applications of PEDOT and to prepare conductive PC films, we tried to prepare PEDOT-coated PC films and investigated their conductivity and thermal stability. • The use of plastic substrates enables new applications, such as flexible display devices, and other flexible electronic devices, using low cost, roll-to-roll (R2R) fabrication technologies. One of the limitations of polymeric substrate in these applications is that oxygen and moisture rapidly diffuse through the material and subsequently degrade the electro-optical devices. GE Global Research (GEGR) has developed a plastic substrate technology comprised of a superior high-heat polycarbonate ($LEXAN^{(R)}$) substrate film and a unique transparent coating package that provides the ultrahigh barrier (UHB) to moisture and oxygen, chemical resistance to solvents used in device fabrications, and a high performance transparent conductor. This article describes the coating solutions for polycarbonate ($LEXAN^{(R)}$) films and its compatibility with OLED device fabrication processes.

  • Au was electrolessly deposited on polycarbonate (PC) membranes (0.1 μm pores) at the air/water interface. It was found that the Au nanotube dimension can be controlled by adjusting the plating temperature and the solution composition. Interfacial deposition of Au at relatively low temperatures (4℃) produced long nanotubes, which run through the whole membrane thickness with small openings. Increase of plating temperatures resulted in the decrease of nanotube lengths and Au film thicknesses. It was also disclosed that the inside-diameter of Au nanotubes can be controlled with negligible variations in length by changing the composition of a plating solution.

  • Optical properties of PET(Polyethylene terephthalate), PC(Polycarbonate), Acrylic resin and PE(Polyethylene) sheets were studied as a function of heat treating temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ to $150^{\circ}C$. By the heat treatment, optical properties of transmittance, absorbance, and reflectance showed a considerable change with different ways according to the materials. To understand the reason of optical property change, X-ray diffraction and surface morphology were also investigated. It was observed that small crystallite and pore that can cause scattering largely affect the transmittance. It was suggested that change of surface chemical bond induce the reflectance variation.

  • Simulations of the thermally-induced residual stresses and birefringence in freely quenched plates of polycarbonate were performed by using the linear viscoelastic and photoviscoelastic constitutive equations for the mechanical and optical properties, respectively, and the first order rate equation for volume relaxation. The predictions for the birefringence showed good agreement with experimental measurements. Based on the simulation, the influences of various cooling conditions on the residual stress and birefringence in plates were investigated. The residual stress and birefringence increased with increasing initial temperature, decreasing coolant temperature and increasing heat transfer coefficient of coolants.

  • In this paper deals with strength of glass fiber reinforced plastics produced by shouting machine was investigated by universal testing instrument. We can obtain following results by performing the strength evaluation of polymer composite material according as varied environment temperature. The effect of environmental temperature on Strength properties was more sensitive in the weld specimen than parent. When changed environmental temperature, variation of strength in the parent was much bigger than it of weld specimen, that is, matrix in the parent, orientation in the specimen ware more sensitive to environmental strength. Tensile strength of polycarbonate matrix was similar regardless of mold temperature.

  • The base material of optical disc is the amorphous polymer, polycarbonate. So crack growth on the rotating optical disc could happen by the static centrifugal force. This phenomenon is called static fatigue. Today's CD-R disc drive is being operated over 10,000 RPM. This is increasing the possibility of the disc fracture when operating. In this reason, new method to measure the static fatigue threshold quality and the way to calculate the threshold J-integral value and the safe crack length of the optical disc are studied. Finally the environmental effect to optical disc is also studied in this paper.
