  • In this paper, Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) modeling using Polynomial Neural Networks (PNN) has been introduced. The deposition of SiO2 was characterized via a 25-1 fractional factorial experiment, was used to train PNNs using predicted squared error (PSE). The optimal neural network structure and learning parameters were determined by means of a second fractional factorial experiment. The optimized networks minimized both learning and prediction error. From these PNN process models, the effect of deposition conditions on film properties has been studied. The deposition experiments were carried out in a Plasma Therm 700 series PECVD system. The models obtained will ultimately be used for several other manufacturing applications, including recipe synthesis and process control.

  • In this study, we introduce a concept of advanced neurofuzzy polynomial networks(ANFPN), a hybrid modeling architecture combining neurofuzzy networks(NFN) and polynomial neural networks(PNN). These networks are highly nonlinear rule-based models. The development of the ANFPN dwells on the technologies of Computational Intelligence(Cl), namely fuzzy sets, neural networks and genetic algorithms. NFN contributes to the formation of the premise part of the rule-based structure of the ANFPN. The consequence part of the ANFPN is designed using PNN. At the premise part of the ANFPN, NFN uses both the simplified fuzzy inference and error back-propagation learning rule. The parameters of the membership functions, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted with the use of genetic optimization. As the consequence structure of ANFPN, PNN is a flexible network architecture whose structure(topology) is developed through learning. In particular, the number of layers and nodes of the PNN are not fixed in advance but is generated in a dynamic way. In this study, we introduce two kinds of ANFPN architectures, namely the basic and the modified one. Here the basic and the modified architecture depend on the number of input variables and the order of polynomial in each layer of PNN structure. Owing to the specific features of two combined architectures, it is possible to consider the nonlinear characteristics of process system and to obtain the better output performance with superb predictive ability. The availability and feasibility of the ANFPN are discussed and illustrated with the aid of two representative numerical examples. The results show that the proposed ANFPN can produce the model with higher accuracy and predictive ability than any other method presented previously.

  • Experimental software data capturing the essence of software projects (expressed e.g., in terms of their complexity and development time) have been a subject of intensive modeling. In this study, we introduce a new category of Hybrid Fuzzy Neural Networks (gHFNN) and discuss their comprehensive design methodology. The gHFNN architecture results from highly synergistic linkages between Fuzzy Neural Networks (FNN) and Polynomial Neural Networks (PNN). We develop a rule-based model consisting of a number of "if-then" statements whose antecedents are formed in the input space and linked with the consequents (conclusion pats) formed in the output space. In this framework, FNNs contribute to the formation of the premise part of the overall network structure of the gHFNN. The consequences of the rules are designed with the aid of genetically endowed PNNs. The experiments reported in this study deal with well-known software data such as the NASA dataset. In comparison with the previously discussed approaches, the proposed self-organizing networks are more accurate and yield significant generalization abilities.

  • In this study, we introduce a new design methodology of a granular-oriented self-organizing polynomial neural networks (GoSOPNNs) that is based on multi-layer perceptron with Context-based Polynomial Neurons (CPNs) or Polynomial Neurons (PNs). In contrast to the typical architectures encountered in polynomial neural networks (PNN), our main objective is to develop a methodological design strategy of GoSOPNNs as follows : (a) The 1st layer of the proposed network consists of Context-based Polynomial Neuron (CPN). In here, CPN is fully reflective of the structure encountered in numeric data which are granulated with the aid of Context-based Fuzzy C-Means (C-FCM) clustering method. The context-based clustering supporting the design of information granules is completed in the space of the input data while the build of the clusters is guided by a collection of some predefined fuzzy sets (so-called contexts) defined in the output space. (b) The proposed design procedure being applied at each layer of GoSOPNN leads to the selection of preferred nodes of the network (CPNs or PNs) whose local characteristics (such as the number of contexts, the number of clusters, a collection of the specific subset of input variables, and the order of the polynomial) can be easily adjusted. These options contribute to the flexibility as well as simplicity and compactness of the resulting architecture of the network. For the evaluation of performance of the proposed GoSOPNN network, we describe a detailed characteristic of the proposed model using a well-known learning machine data(Automobile Miles Per Gallon Data, Boston Housing Data, Medical Image System Data).

  • In this paper, we propose Self-organizing neurofuzzy networks(SONFN) and discuss their comprehensive design methodology. The proposed SONFN is generated from the mutually combined structure of both neurofuzzy networks (NFN) and polynomial neural networks(PNN) for model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. NFN contributes to the formation of the premise part of the SONFN. The consequence part of the SONFN is designed using PNN. The parameters of the membership functions, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted with the use of genetic optimization. We discuss two kinds of SONFN architectures and propose a comprehensive learning algorithm. It is shown that this network...

  • This paper presents an integrated machining error compensation method based on PNN(Polynomial Neural Network) approach and inspection database of OMM(On-Machine-Measurement) system. To efficiently analyze the machining errors, two machining error parameters are defined and modeled using the PNN approach, which is used to determine machining errors for the considered cutting conditions. Experiments are carried out to validate the approaches proposed in this paper. In result, the proposed methods can be effectively implemented in a real machining situation, producing much fewer errors.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy model based on the polynomial Neural Network(PNN) structure is proposed to estimate the emission pattern for air pollutant in power plants. The new algorithm uses PNN algorithm based on Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH) algorithm and fuzzy reasoning in order to identify the premise structure and parameter of fuzzy implications rules, and the least square method in order to identify the optimal consequence parameters. Both time series data for the gas furnace and data for the NOx emission process of gas turbine power plants are used for the purpose of evaluating the performance of the fuzzy model. The simulation results show that the proposed technique can produce the optimal fuzzy model with higher accuracy anhd feasibility than other works achieved previously.
