  • In this paper, we propose an error detection scheme of phase offsets for binary sequences including PN (Pseudo Noise) sequences based on the number theoretical approach. It is important to know phase offsets of spreading sequences in the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile communication systems because phase offsets of the same spreading sequence are used to achieve the acquisition and are used to distinguish each base station. When the period of the sequence is not very long, the relative phase offset between the sequence and its shifted replica can be found by comparing them, but as the period of the sequence increases it becomes difficult to find the phase offset. The error detection failure probability of the proposed method is derived, and it is confirmed by the simulation results. We also discuss the circuit realization of the proposed method and show it can be easily implemented.

  • In this paper, a pseudo-noise(PN) tracking and demodulation circuits are analyzed and designed for a direct-sequence/spread-spectrum multiple access system under a mobile fading channel. We consider noncoherent delay locked loop(DLL) as a PN code tracking loop which has 1/8 PN chip resolution. The tracking performance of DLL is evaluated in terms of locking time from a loose state and tracking jitter. The received signal is demodulated to original data by despreading with PN code locked by DLL. Also the designed circuit supports sound service of 32Kbps and in-band signal with 4.096MHz chip clock. The circuits are implemented and verified with FPGA, which is shown completely data recovery under AWGN 7dB and will be available for IMT-2000.

  • In this paper, pseudo noise (PN) code acquisition performance with multiple antennas in a UWB time hopping/code division multiple access system is analyzed. The closed form for the conditional probability is derived, using the Gauss-Hermite quadrature formula, when the signal with Gaussian distribution goes through the lognormal fading channel. The performance comparison of the above mentioned schemes shows that the code acquisition performance with a diversity combining technique, especially when increasing the number of antennas, is more robust than that using no diversity.

  • This paper presents a threshold decision technique for direct sequence code acquistion employing Pseudo-Noise(PN) matched filter. The probabilities of detection and false alarm are derived as a measure of the system performance in both nonfading and nonselective Rician fading channels. For received PN codes with different SNR, the proposed acquisition scheme is able to detect a desired threshold in the search mode so that this value is utilized as a threshold for the verification mode. Thus, there is no need to determine a threshold by applying the Neyman-Person ciriteron. It is shown that this scheme achieves lower probability of false alarm than the acquisition scheme based on the Neyman-Person criterion, giving comparable performance in terms of the probability of detection.

  • The need increased capacity in the cellular system has resulted in the adoption of digital technology with CDMA as the channel access method. It has been recognized that the distinction of the base station is important for its performance in CDMA, since the same spreading sequences are used by the all base stations. Time offset of the pseudo-random noise binary code are used to distinguish signals received at a mobile station from different base station. But the start of the zero offset PN sequence is chosen arbitrary without the background of the systematic and mathematical elaboration. This paper proposes a mothed that define the start of the zero offset PN sequence mathematically. This paper also discusses a method that can easily calculate the time offset of the received spreading sequence with respect to the zero offset PN sequence.

  • In this paper we propose a new image encryption method which utilizes Complemented MLCA(Complemented Maximum Length Cellular Automata) based on IBCA(Intermediate Boundary CA) and 2D CAT(Cellular Automata Transform). The encryption method is processed in the following order. First, Complemented MLCA is used to create a PN (pseudo noise) sequence, which matches the size of the original image. And, the original image goes through a XOR operation with the created sequence to convert the image into Complemented MLCA image. Then, the gateway value is set to produce a 2D CAT basis function. The produced basis function is multiplied by the encrypted MLCA image that has been converted to process the encipherment. Lastly, the stability analysis and PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) verifies that the proposed method holds a high encryption quality status.

  • In this paper, we propose on image encryption method which uses NC(Non-linear Cycle) and 2D CAT(Two-Dimensional Cellular Automata Transform) in sequence to encrypt medical images. In terms of the methodology, we use NC to generate a pseudo noise sequence equal to the size of the original image. We then conduct an XOR operation of the generated sequence with the original image to conduct level 1 NC encryption. Then we set the proper Gateway Values to generate the 2D CAT basis functions. We multiply the generated basis functions by the altered NC encryption image to conduct the 2nd level 2D CAT encryption. Finally, we verify that the proposed method is efficient and extremely safe by conducting an analysis of the key spatial and sensitivity analysis of pixels.

  • In this paper, we propose a class of polyphase signature sequences, whose general odd correlation properties are useful for 4-phase signaling systems. The performance of the direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems using the proposed sequences is compared with that using binary pseudo-noise sequences. The performance of the system using the proposed sequence is shown to be better than that using other conventional sequences both from the worst-case analysis and bit error rate simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose an average acquisition time and hardware design of high speed PN code synchronous acquisition system using DMF(Digital Matched Filter) with new switching method in DS-SS/CDMA(Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Code Division Multiple Access). In reality, the PN code synchronous acquisition system using DMF has very complicated hardware, high cost and high power consumption. The PN code synchronous acquisition system using proposed switching method DMF can overcome those disadvantages. Therefore, we can make hardware simple and obtain low power and high density by reducing the area by 1/5 against the conventional approaches of using either the matched filters or the serial correlators. The proposed system architecture is also simple and easily controllable since there is no square-term circuit after execution of digital filtering.
