Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is a network based IP mobility management protocol. PMIPv6 make sure that the IP address of the mobile node remains the same as long as the mobile node roams with in the PMIPv6 domain. A mobile node roams with in a PMIPv6 domain. PMIPv6 protocol doesn't provide the mobility support once the mobile node moves from one PMIPv6 domain to another PMIPv6 domain. This paper proposes a Software Defined Networking (SDN) based PMIPv6 scheme which provides the mobility support for inter PMIPv6 domain movement of mobile node. In the proposed architecture each PMIPv6 domain has a SDN controller and SDN controllers from different domains communicate with each other to share the mobility information.

The Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is a network localized mobility management protocol that is independent of global mobility management protocols. In a single mobility domain (LMD), the mobile node (MN) is not involved in any IP mobility-related signaling and uses only its PMIPv6 home address for all its communication. Subsequently, when the MN moves into another LMD, the MN must change its PMIPv6 home address. In such a circumstance, host-based mobility signaling is activated. Thus, the nature of the network-based mobility of the PMIPv6 cannot be retained. Additionally, if the MN does not support global mobility, it cannot maintain communication with its correspondent node (CN). In this paper, we propose a solution for global mobility support in PMIPv6 networks, called Global-PMIPv6 that allows current communication sessions of a MN without mobility protocol stacks to be maintained, even when the MN moves into another LMD. Thus, Global-PMIPv6 retains the advantages of the PMIPv6 for global mobility support. We then evaluate and compare network performance between our proposed solution and PMIPv6.
Recently, with the popularity of smartphones, an interest in multi-networking service through wireless multi-interface of a mobile node is increased. Also, wireless networking technology for using wireless multi-interface has been studied. As the related work, in the IETF Netext WG, the extension of PMIPv6 protocol for multi-interface support is being discussed. Existing PMIPv6 protocol includes the functions for simultaneous access over multi-interfaces of a mobile node and inter-technology handover between multi-interfaces of the mobile node. However, in case of the existing protocol, the problem occurs when inter-technology handover is performed after simultaneous access on the PMIPv6 domain, this problem is the discontinuous of simultaneous connections. Therefore, the PMIPv6 Protocol cannot support flow based multi-homing service. In this paper, as a way to solve the problem, Hybrid Home Network Prefix scheme is proposed.

Recently, wireless multi-networking technology has been studied for supporting multi-interface in mobile node. As the related work, in the IETF NetExt WG, the extension of Proxy Mobile IPv6 protocol for supporting flow mobility is actively on going in discussion. PMIPv6 protocol supports simultaneous access through the multi-interface in a mobile node and inter-technology handover between multiple interfaces. However, this protocol can not support flow mobility. Thus, in this paper, when a mobile node connects to PMIPv6 domain through multi-interface, as a way to support flow mobility, the design of logical interface and Home Network Prefix change scheme based on logical interface are proposed, We show that the proposed scheme can perform flow mobility service without end-to-end disconnection in PMIPv6 domain.

In this paper, we consider the problem of applying NEMO in PMIPv6, and propose a method to support network mobility. When an MR enters a PMIPv6 domain, an MAG recognizes the MR to access using the BU message. And the MAG makes a tunnel between the MAG and the MR. The MR do not make tunnel fundamentally except for handover. Therefore, the PMIPv6 protocol needs to modify the original algorithm and the BCE data filed. However, the proposed method can use NEMO without protocol modification. To show verification, we implement our proposed algorithm with added BCE data filed using C program, and configure a testbed network. Through a network connectivity procedure, we can see that our proposed method can support network mobility within the PMIPv6 network.
Recently, Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) has received much attention as a mobility management protocol in next-generation all-IP mobile networks. While the current research related to PMIPv6 mainly focuses on providing efficient handovers for unicast-based applications, there has been relatively little interest in supporting multicast services with PMIPv6. To provide support for multicast services with PMIPv6, there are two alternative approaches called Mobile Access Gateway (MAG)-based subscription and Local Mobility Anchor (LMA)-based subscription. However, MAG-based subscription causes a large overhead for multicast joining and LMA-based subscription provides non-optimal multicast routing paths. The two approaches may also cause a high packet loss rate. In this paper, we propose an efficient PMIPv6-based multicast protocol that aims to provide an optimal delivery path for multicast data and to reduce handover delay and packet loss rate. Through simulation studies, we found that the proposed protocol outperforms existing multicast solutions for PMIPv6 in terms of end-to-end delay, service disruption period, and the number of lost packets during handovers.

Mobile traffic is increasing a masse because of the propagation of the Internet and the development of wireless mobile technology. Accordingly, the Network Local Mobility Management (NETLMM) working group [1] of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has standardized Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) [2] as a protocol for accomplishing the transmissibility of mobile terminals. PMIPv6 is a network-led IP-based mobility management protocol, which can control terminal mobility without depending on the type of access system or the capability of the terminal. By combining PMIPv6 and the mobility of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), we can establish terminal mobility and session mobility through a more effective route. The mobility function can be improved and the overlap of function reduced as compared to that in the case of independent operation. PMIPv6 is appropriate for a non-real-time service using TCP, and SIP is appropriate for a real-time service using RTP/UDP. Thus, in the case of a terminal using both services, an effective mobility management is possible only by using PMIPv6 together with SIP. In order to manage mobility in this manner, researches on PMIPv6-SIP are in progress. In line with this trend, this paper suggests a new PMIPv6-SIP architecture where when a mobile terminal conducts a handover, a network-led handover while maintaining the session without the addition of a special function or middleware is possible along with effective performance evaluation through mathematical modeling by comparing the delay and the packet loss that occur during the handover to the Pure-SIP.
Our proposed mobility management scheme is based on Multicasting and HIP(Host Identity Protocol) in PMIPv6(Proxy Mobile IPv6) Networks, and allows users to handoff within and across different administrative domains. The main advantage of our scheme is to enable the inter-domain handoff of both types of nodes with a reduced signalling overhead and packet losses. Specifically, the scheme enables the interworking between host-based and network-based mobility support, by means of the interaction between PMIPv6 with Multicasting and HIP. Performance evaluations demonstrate that our scheme improves the handoff latency and packet losses compared to other global mobility management protocols.

Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is the network-based mobility management protocol that network supports the mobility of mobile node (MN) on behalf of the MN. In PMIPv6, a multi-homed MN can connect to the PMIPv6 domain by using only one interface even though it has multiple interfaces. It would be efficient when such a multi-homed MN connects to the PMIPv6 domain by using all of its interfaces. If such a multi-homed MN utilizes all of its interfaces, flow mobility can be provided that the MN handovers one or more flows from one interface to another without re-establishing session. In this paper, we propose the flow-based mobility management protocol by considering the intention of the user. The Router Advertisement (RA) message is used in order for the PMIPv6 domain to inform that the MN can utilize the flow mobility. The proposed mechanism is evaluated by analyzing signaling overhead and handover latency, and the numerical results show that the performance is affected by mobility speed of the MN and the failure probability of the wireless link.
The PMIPv6 is a network controlled mobility management protocol in which mobile nodes never participate in IP mobility protocol signaling. One issue in using PMIPv6 for multicast service is that a new component should be added as the mobility management functions are located not on the device but on the network. Currently, standardization activities for providing muticast services with PMIPv6 have been actively in progress. This paper addresses some issues about the on-going standardization works for providing efficient real-time multicast services with PMIPv6, and proposes a scheme for minimizing hand over delays and packet losses by using a new neighbor cell reporting method. The proposed scheme has been verified to outperform the existing scheme in hand over delay and packet loss perfonnrmces by using computer simulations.
