Photo-protective and Anti-melanogenic Effect from Phenolic Compound of Olive Leaf (Olea europaea L. var. Kalamata) Extracts on the Immortalized Human Keratinocytes and B16F1 Melanoma Cells

  • Ethylacetate and butanol fractions of leaf extracts (OLE) showed the higher contents of total phenolic compounds than hexane and water fractions. Oleuropein contents were $4.21{\pm}0.57,\;3.92{\pm}0.43,\;0.32{\pm}0.03,\;5.76{\pm}0.32$, and $32.47{\pm}0.25mg$/100g for ethanol extract, and hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and butanol fraction, respectively. Treatment of ultraviolet-B (UVB) irradiated cells with 3 OLEs prepared by using ethylacetate and butanol at concentrations 0.001, 0.005, and 0.01% respectively showed significant recovery of cell viabilities. Treatment of dexametason 1 mM reduced tumor necrotic factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ secretion by about 40%. UVB irradiated immortalized human keratinocytes (HaCaT) cells were treated with 3 different OLEs at the same concentrations. Ethylacetate fraction showed the strongest inhibition activity with respect of reduction of the elevated (TNF)-${\alpha}$. Cytotoxicity of OLEs on the B16-F1 cells was evaluated through thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Ethylacetate fraction has no cytotoxicity in the range of 0.005-0.01%. A slight cytotoxicity was observed at the concentration of 0.1% butanol fraction of OLE that caused 10% decrease in cell viability.

수분함량에 따른 반건조 우리밀 국수의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Semi-dry Noodles with different Water Contents)

  • This study evaluated the quality characteristics of semi-dried noodles prepared with different water contents (wet noodles; 32, 24, 22, 20%, dry noodles; 12%). The drying process was carried out in a drying chamber at $13{\sim}18^{\circ}C$ temperature and 75~95% humidity. The proximate composition of Korean wheat flour was as follows: water $22.1{\pm}3.64%$, protein $8.6{\pm}0.13%$, fat $1.3{\pm}0.10%$, ash $0.7{\pm}0.02%$, carbohydrates $67.3{\pm}0.10%$. As water contents decreased, both L and b values significantly decreased before cooking of noodles, whereas L, a, and b values were not significantly different after cooking of noodles. Weight, water absorption, and volume of cooked noodles significantly increased as water content decreased, whereas turbidity of soup was not significantly different. Cutting hardness before cooking of noodles significantly increased as water content decreased. Sections of noodles after cooking by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) showed roughness and fewer round starch particles as water content decreased. For overall preferences according to the sensory evaluation, noodles prepared with different water contents were not significantly different. According to the results, semidried noodles have development potential to complement the disadvantages of both wet noodles and dry noodles.

월경통 한의 교의 사업에 관한 연구 (A Study of School Doctor Program for Dysmenorrhea in Korean Medicine)

  • Objectives This study aims to investigate the effect of the Korean medicine in treating dysmenorrhea as a part of school health program (SHP) and satisfaction rate of the participated students in this program. With this study, we tried to contribute to the development of health promotion program of Korean medicine. Methods As part of the 'Korean Medicine Health Promotion Project', we conducted a dysmenorrhea program at one of many high schools in Eumseong-gun. From April to June 2018, we conducted the promotion program a total of 7 times and analyzed the questionnaire regarding satisfaction and the monthly experience of menstruation. Results The study participants' grade distribution was $2^{nd}$ grade 32, $3^{rd}$ grade 23 with a total 55 students. Mean dysmenorrhea VAS was $6.07{\pm}2.10$, and the mean number of visits to the dysmenorrhea program was $3.61{\pm}1.47$. There were no significant differences in the average number of visits between grades. Overall satisfaction was $4.06{\pm}0.97$, teacher satisfaction was $4.29{\pm}1.10$, and lecture satisfaction was $4.18{\pm}0.95$. Dysmenorrhea decreased but was not statistically significant. Conclusions Korean medicine is appropriate for the health promotion program. With cooperation and support from local schools, it will be very possible to carry out a successful business. It is also necessary to organize the program according to the viewpoint of youth and to interact with the students.

  • 식이습관을 바꾸지 않는 상태에서 4주간의 placebo 투여후 혈청 Total-C치가 240mg/dl 이상인 원발성 고콜레스테 혈증환자 25예씩 두군으로 하여 제1군은 lovastatin 20mg에서 80mg을 1일 1회 저녁에 12주간 투여하였고, 제2군은 pravastatin 5mg을 12주간 아침 저녁으로 2회 경구 투여하였다. Lovastatin과 pravastatin 12주 투여후 혈청 Total-C치는 309$\pm$46mg/d1에서 201$\pm$37mg/d1로, 281$\pm$41mg/d1에서 218$\pm$31mg/d1로, 혈청LDL-C치는 230$\pm$46mg/d1에서 125$\pm$40mg/d1로, 199$\pm$46mg/d1에서 137$\pm$37mg/d1로 각각 유의하게 감소 하였다. (p < 0.005)혈청 Apo B치는 183$\pm$32mg/d1에서 114$\pm$26mg/d1로, 164$\pm$38mg/d1에서 123$\pm$20mg/d1로, 혈청 Apo B / Apo A-1 ratio는 1.6$\pm$0.4에서 1.0$\pm$0.3으로, 1.4$\pm$0.5에서 1.0$\pm$0.3으로 각각 유의하게 감소하였다. (p < 0.005) Lovastatin 및 pravastatin 투여후 임상적으로 의미있는 중상이나 검사상 이상 소견은 관찰되지 않았다.

  • This study was performed to determine the changes of serum enzyme activities in rats with hepatic injury induced by the administration of AAPH. Minor behavioral change, brittleness of skin hair and decreased water and fled intake were observed in rats administered intraperitoneally with AAPH. Serum AST and ALT activities pre-treatment were $65{\pm} 13.8 and 32{\pm}$ 12.6 IU/L, respectively and increased sharply from 2 hours of administration and reached $1248{\pm} 77.6 and 946{\pm}$ 45.6 IU/L, respectively at 48 hours of administration. Serum ALP and $\gamma -GTP activities pretreatment were 221 {\pm} 75.6 and 2.2{\pm}$ 0.35 IU/L respectively and increased sharply from 8 hours of administration and reached $767{\pm} 44.9 IU/L and 8.0{\pm} 1.23 IU/L,$ respectively at 48 hours of administration.

한국형 이동식 심폐소생기 개발 보고 I. 실험견을 이용한 개흉식과 폐쇄식 심폐소생술 비교 (Report for Development of Korean Portable Cardiopulmonary Bypass Machine)

  • 배경: 고려대학교 흉부외과학교실에서는 심폐소생술에서 인공심 사용이 기존의 표준 심폐소생술에 비해 나은 결과를 보인다는 점에 착안하여 한국형 이동식 심폐소생기를 개발하고자 하였다. 1997년 1월부터 8월까지 한국형 이동식 심폐소생기 개발의 전단계로 심폐정지 모델 결정 및 표준 폐쇄식/ 개흉식 심폐소생술의 비교와 관찰지표 설정을 위한 준비실험을 실시하였다. 대상 및 방법: 실험은 한국산 잡견 9마리(28-35kg)를 대상으로 폐쇄식 심폐소생술군 4마리와 개흉식 심폐소생술군 5마리로 나누어, 4분 간의 심정지 및 15분간의 일차 심폐소생술(basic life support; BLS)과 30분간의 이차 심폐소생술(advanced life support; ALS)을 실시하였다. 심장압박은 폐쇄식군의 경우 흉부에 압박을 가하였고 개흉식군에서는 직접 심장을 맛사지하였다. 소생술기간에 양군 모두 동일한 조건의 폐환기 상태를 유지하였으며, 자발성 순환회복은 이차심폐소생술 기간 초기부터 재세동과 에피네프린 및 탄산수소 나트륨을 투여하여 유도하였다. 결과: 심폐소생술 기간안에 평균 체동맥압은 BLS 동안 폐쇄식군이 33$\pm$11 mmHg인데 비해 개흉식군은 45$\pm$15 mmHg로 높게 유지되었으며, ALS 동안에도 폐쇄식군 44$\pm$15 mmHg에 비해 개흉식군이 83$\pm$36 mmHg로 높게 유지 되었으나 통계상의 유의성은 없었다. 한편 평균 폐동맥압은 BLS 동안 폐쇄식군에서 32$\pm$10 mmHg로 평균 체동 맥압과 비슷한 정도로 증가하였으나 개흉식군은 22$\pm$4 mmHg로 평균 체동맥압의 약 50%정도까지만 증가하였고, ALS 동안에도 폐쇄식군은 32$\pm$15 mmHg로 개흉식군의 24$\pm$10 mmHg보다 높게 유지되었으나 통계처리상 유의성 은 없었다. 자발성 순환회복(restoration of spontaneous circulation; ROSC) 및 심폐소생 성공 여부에서 폐 쇄식군은 4마리 모두 사망하였으나 개흉식군은 5마리중 4마리가 생존하였고 생존기간은 384$\pm$705시간이였다 (p<.05). 결론: 본 연구 결과 개흉식 심폐소생술은 폐쇄식 소생술에 비해 비록 통계학상의 차이는 없었으나 소생술 기간 동안 비교해서 안정된 혈역학 상태를 유지하여서 자발성 순환회복 및 장단기 생존율을 향상시킬 수 있었다고 판단된다.

한국 주변 해역 표층해수중 삼중수소 농도 (Tritium Concentrations in Surface Seawater around Korean Peninsula)

  • 전해농축법을 이용하여 한국 주변 해역 해수중 저준위 삼중수소를 측정하였다. 동 서 남해안에서 채취된 표충해수중 삼중수소를 측정한 결과, 삼중수소 농도는 $0.12 BqL^{-1}$에서 $1.50 BqL^{-1}$ 범위내의 값을 나타내었으며 그 평균값은 $0.60{\pm}0.353qL^{-1}$였다. 해역별 평균 삼중수소 농도는 동해안에서 $0.54{\pm}0.30 BqL^{-1}$ 남해안에서 $0.48{\pm}0.35 BqL^{-1}$. 서해안에서 $0.77{\pm}0.32 BqL^{-1}$의 농도분포를 각각 나타내었으며, 해역별로 큰 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 또한, 시료채취지점이 매우 좁은 위도범위내에 한정되어 있어 위도에 따른 삼중수소 농도의 체계적인 변화는 관찰되지 않았다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 표층해수 중 삼중수소 농도 준위는 일본 근해에서 조사된 결과와 매우 유사하였으며, 태평양지역에서의 삼중수소 농도에 비해서는 약간 높은 값을 나타내었다.

Cephalometric Angular Measurements of the Mandible Using Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography Scans in Koreans

  • Background We conducted this study to analyze the values of the key cephalometric angular measurements of the mandible using 3-dimensional (3D) computed tomography scans. Methods In the 106 enrolled patients, a 3D cephalometric analysis was performed to measure the angular variables of the mandible. These values were compared between the two sides and between the two sexes. Results The frontal measurements revealed that the mandibular body curve angle was larger on the left (Lt) side (right [Rt], $141.24{\pm}7.54$; Lt, $142.68{\pm}6.94$; P=0.002) and the gonial angle was larger on the right side (Rt, $134.37{\pm}8.44$; Lt, $131.54{\pm}7.14$; P<0.001). The sagittal measurements showed that the gonial angle was larger on the right side (Rt, $134.37{\pm}8.44$; Lt, $131.54{\pm}7.14$; P>0.05). Further, the transverse measurements revealed that the mandibular body curve angle was larger on the right side (Rt, $140.28{\pm}7.05$; Lt, $137.56{\pm}6.23$; P<0.001). Conclusions These results provide an average of the mandibular angular measurements for the Korean population, establishing a standard for determining surgical patient groups and outcome evaluations in the field of mandible contour surgery.

어깨뿔고둥 (Ocenebra japonica)의 생식세포형성과 생식주기 (Gametogenesis and Reproductive Cycle of the Murex Shell (Ocenebra japonica) (Neogastropoda: Muricidae))

  • Gonadal development, gametogenesis, reproductive cycle, gonad index, and flesh weight rate of the murex shell (Ocenebra japonica) collected from the rocky intertidal zone of Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Korea were investigated by means of histological method from January to December 2002. O. japonica had separate sexes, and was oviparous. The gonad was widely situated on the surface of the digestive gland located in the rear of the spiral flesh part in the shell. The male penis was located near the two tentacles. The ovary was composed of a number of oogenic follicles, and the testis was composed of several spermatogenic tubules. The size of ripe oocyte was approximately $140{\mu}m$ in diameter. The gonad index (GI) began to increase in March $(33.24{\pm}2.33)$ and reached the maximum in June $(47.77{\pm}1.90)$ Thereafter, the values decreased from July $(45.12{\pm}3.60)$ to October $(19.32{\pm}2.91)$. The flesh weight rate (FWR) began to increase in January $(25.93{\pm}1.32)$ and reached the maxium in May $(31.78{\pm}1.09)$ Thereafter, the values decreased from June $(31.50{\pm}0.66)$ to October $(24.09{\pm}1.60)$. The reproductive cycle could be classified into five successive stages: early active (October to April), late active (January to June), ripe (May to September), spawning (July to September) and recovery (September to February). The reproductive cycle was closely related to the seawater temperature.

한우 거세우의 적정 출하월령 추정 (Estimation of Resonable Market Month of Age for Hanwoo Steer)

  • 본 연구는 도체월령별 도체형질의 변화를 분석하여 적정 도축시기를 결정하는 데 필요한 정보를 얻기 위한 목적으로 실시하였으며, 2005년 10월부터 2011년 9월 사이에 도축된 거세우 17,249두의 도체형질자료를 이용하였다. 각 도체형질의 평균과 표준편차는 도축일령, 도체중, 등지방두께, 등심면적, 근내지방도, 육량지수, 도체단가 및 도체 총가격에서 각각 $940.4{\pm}73.00$, $437.0{\pm}48.70$ kg, $12.1{\pm}4.32$ mm, $90.3{\pm}9.51cm^2$, $5.7{\pm}1.86$, $65.13{\pm}3.23$, $14.150{\pm}1.77$천원 및 $6181.18{\pm}1009.46$천 원으로 나타났다. 도체월령별 회귀계수에서 조기 도축그룹에서는 도체 단가를 제외한 전체 형질들에서, 만기 도축그룹에서는 근내지방도를 제외한 전체 형질들에서 월령별 회귀계수가 유의성이 인정되었다. 수익을 얻기 위해서는 28개월령 이전으로 도축시기를 결정해야 할 것으로 판단된다.
