As modern electronic devices get smaller and smaller, high-resolution, large Field-Of-View (FOV), fast, and cost-effective 3-dimensional (3-D) measurement is requested more and more. In particular, defect inspection machines using machine-vision technology nowadays require 3-D inspection as well as the conventional 2-D inspection. Phase Measuring Profilometry (PMP) is one of the fast non-contact 3-D shape measuring methods currently being extensively investigated in the electronic component manufacturing industry. The PMP system is well known and is successfully applied to measuring complex surface profiles with varying reflectance properties. However, for highly reflective surfaces, such as Ball Grid Arrays (BGAs), it has difficulty accurately measuring 3-D shapes. In this paper, we propose a new fast optical system that can eliminate the highly reflective saturated regions in BGA ball images. This is achieved by utilizing four Low Intensity Grating (LIG) images together with the conventional High Intensity Grating (HIG) images. Extensive experiments using BGA samples show a repeatability of under ${\pm}20um$ in standard deviation, which is suitable for most 3-D shape measurements of BGAs.
All-optical fiber-type gain flattening filer (GFF) for an EDFA (Erbium doped fiber amplifier) were fabricated by using a FBT (fiber biconical tapered) process and the performance of the GFF was tested and athermal package was proposed. Historically, the chief contributor to gain unevenness has been the EDFA. Due to the inherent gain response of the EDFA's operation, there is always a modest imbalance in the gain applied as a function of wavelength. FBT methods have been used to make fiber type couplers and WDM filter since 1980. Attractivity of this methods was simple, cost effective and thermal stability. Simulation program tool is made to design target GFF profile for this paper. Fiber coupler manufacturing machine is modified for the GFF process. The final GFF is obtained by cascading 4 unit filter that has 6 taper stage. Test result shows 1 dB of wavelength flatness in the C band. Polarization dependent loss is under 0.15dB. The center wavelength variation is below ${\pm}$0.35nm at the temperature range of $20^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$.
This paper deals with determination of parameters of permanent magnet linear synchronous machine(PMLSM) for high thrust and improvement of speed performance. To satisfy these characteristics, PMLSM with double-sided PM mover and slotless ring-winding stator is presented. And using multilaver method, this paper analyzes the electromagnetic field phenomena and estimates parameters such as back-EMF and thrust constant. These parameters are used to derive DC link voltage of voltage source inverter with space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) using a digital signal processor and encoder pulse signal. The DC link voltage is one of the most important factor for accurate design. It enables to determinate dynamic operating range of system. Hence, performance evaluation is performed through dynamic modeling. Finally, in this paper, dynamic characteristics according to DC link voltage are presented as experiment result.
In order to achieve a gearless construction of the wind energy conversion system(WECS), a low-speed generator should be used. Of the various candidate machine types, radial-field, multi-pole, permanent magnet, synchronous machines may be used for low-speed applications. So, this paper deals with the design of direct-coupled, multi-pole radial field machines with permanent magnet(PM) excitation for wind power applications for cogging torque reduction through the determination of optimum pole arc/pitch ratio. On the basis of an equivalent magnetic circuit method(EMCM) and a space harmonic method(SHM), an initial design is performed considering restricted conditions. And then, a detailed design is made using a non-linear finite element analyses(FEA). Finally, test results concerning generating characteristics are given to confirm the validation of the design.
This experimental study is perform to study the effect of the direction for the centrifugal force in operating centrifugal casting machine. In order to investigate the effect of direction for centrifugal force action on the casting ability 20 pieces of specimen are produced including one vertical direction and four horizontal directions. Casting shows us that the 15 pieces of specimen among them are included within $\pm$16. The results obtained through the comparison with 5 groups of the casting ability are as follows: 1. In the experiment of the casting, statistically significant difference are found between the vertical direction and the group of horizontal direction, namely, the direction of 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock, and also statistically there are significant differences between the direction of 9 o'clock and of 6 o'clock, and between the direction of 9 o'clock and of 12 o'clock which lie between the groups of horizontal directions. 2. The degree of casting ability is showing us on an average, 23.80 in the vertical direction. And also in the group of horizontal direction it prove in turn 15.60 in the direction of 9 o'clock, 14.47 of 3 o'clock, 13.30 of 12 o'clock, and 12.80 of 6 o'clock.
In this study, the adhesive strength of three commercial polycarboxylate cements to ten types of dental casting alloys, such as gold, palladium, silver, indium, copper, nickel, chromium, and human enamel and dentine were measured and compared with that of a conventional zinc phosphate cement. The $8.0mm{\times}3.0mm$ cylindrical alloy specimens were made by casting. The enamel specimens were prepared from the labial surface of human upper incisor, and the dentine specimens were prepared from the occulusal surface of the human molar respectively. Sound extracted human teeth, which had been kept in a fresh condition since, extraction, were mounted in a wax box with a cold-curing acrylic resin to expose the flattened area. The mounted teeth were then placed in a Specimen Cutter (Technicut) and were cut down under a water spray, and then the flat area on the all specimens were ground by hand with 400 and 600 grit wet silicone carbide paper. Two such specimens were then cemented together face-to-face with freshly mixed cement, and moderate finger pressure was applied to squeeze the cement to a thin and uniform film. All cemented specimens were then kept in a thermostatic humidor cabinet regulated at $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C.$ and more than 95 per cent relative humidity and tested after 24 hours and 1 week. Link chain was attached to each alloy specimen to reduce the rigidity of the jig assembly, and then all the specimens were mounted in the grips of the Instron Universal Testing Machine, and a tensile load was delivered to the adhering surface at a cross head speed of 0.20 mm/min. The loads to which the specimens were subjected were recorded on a chart moving at 0.50 mm/min. The adhesive strength was determined by measuring the load when the specimen separated from the cement block and by dividing the load by the area. The test was performed in a room at $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C.$ and $50{\pm}10$ per cent relative humidity. A minimum of five specimens were tested each material and those which deviated more than 15 per cent from the mean were discarded and new specimens prepared. From the experiments, the following results were obtained. 1) It was found that the adhesive strength of the polycarboxylate cement to all alloys tested was considerably greater than that of the zinc phosphate cement. 2) The adhesive strength of the polycarboxylate cements was superior to the non precious alloys, such as the copper, indium, nickel and chromium alloys, but it was inferior to the precious gold, silver and palladium alloys. 3) Surface treatment of the alloy was found to be an important factor in achieving adhesion. It appears that a polycarboxylate cement will adhere better to a smooth surface than to a rough one. This contrasts with zinc phosphate cements, where a rough helps mechanical interlocking. 4) The adhesion of the polycarboxylate cement with enamel was found superior to its adhesion with dentine.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to determine fracture resistance and failure modes of three-unit fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) made of lithium disilicate pressed on zirconia (LZ), monolithic lithium disilicate (ML), and monolithic zirconia (MZ). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Co-Cr alloy three-unit metal FDPs model with maxillary first premolar and first molar abutments was fabricated. Three different FDPs groups, LZ, ML, and MZ, were prepared (n = 5 per group). The three-unit FDPs designs were identical for all specimens and cemented with resin cement on the prepared metal model. The region of pontic in FDPs was given 50,000 times of cyclic preloading at 2 Hz via dental chewing simulator and received a static load until fracture with universal testing machine fixed at $10^{\circ}$. The fracture resistance and mode of failure were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test with Bonferroni's correction (${\alpha}=0.05/3=0.017$). RESULTS. A significant difference in fracture resistance was found between LZ ($4943.87{\pm}1243.70N$) and ML ($2872.61{\pm}658.78N$) groups, as well as between ML and MZ ($4948.02{\pm}974.51N$) groups (P<.05), but no significant difference was found between LZ and MZ groups (P>.05). With regard to fracture pattern, there were three cases of veneer chipping and two interfacial fractures in LZ group, and complete fracture was observed in all the specimens of ML and MZ groups. CONCLUSION. Compared to monolithic lithium disilicate FDPs, monolithic zirconia FDPs and lithium disilicate glass ceramics pressed on zirconia-based FDPs showed superior fracture resistance while they manifested comparable fracture resistances.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of laundry variables and additives on the removal of deposited calcium on the cotton fabric. Samples of calcium deposited fabric was made by treating fabric with $CaC1_2$ and $Na_2CO_3$ solution subsequently. The experimental variables were: 1) NaOH concentration ($0.0001\%$, $0.0005\%$, $0.001\%$, $0.005\%$, $0.01\%$) 2) Alkaline builders(sodium carbonate, sodium meta silicate) 3) Sequestering agents(STPP and EDTA concentration: $0.02\%$, $0.04\%$, $0.06\%$, $0.08\%$, $0.1\%$, $0.15\%$, $0.2\%$) 4) Temperatures($25\pm1^{\circ}C$, $40\pm1^{\circ}C$, $60\pm1^{\circ}C$) 5) Edge-abrasion to the removal of deposited calcium on the cotton fabric. The fabric was washed for 15 minutes in a washing machine(Model: Gold Star WP-3007) or Launder-0-meter(40$\~$45 r.p.m., Toyo Rika Instrument Inc.) and rinsed 3 times per every rinsing time. The amount of calcium deposits on the fabrics was determined by EDTA-back titration methods and edge-abrasion was evaluated by ASTM D 3886 method. The results of this study were as follows: 1) pH of surfactant solution(NaOH concentration) did not influence on the removal of deposited calcium on the cotton fabric. 2) Added alkaline builders did not influence on the removal of deposited calcium on the cotton fabric. 3) It was shown that STPP and EDTA were effective to remove deposited calcium. The removal of deposited calcium on the cotton fabric was proportionally increased with increasing concentration of STPP and EDTA. At high concentration, however, the rate was rather decreased with increasing concentration. 4) The temperature of washing solution did not influence on the removal of dedosited calcium on the cotton fabric. 5) As the removal of deposited calcium on the cotton fabric was increased, the rate of edge-abrasion of the fabric was gradually increased.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of two fiber post systems and one metal cast post system on the fracture strength and fracture pattern of crowned, endodontically treated teeth with 2 mm-height of the reamining tooth structure. Materials and methods: A total of 36 recently extracted sound human mandibular premolars were selected Each tooth structure of the crown portion except 2mm-height of the one above the cementoenamel junction was removed. After being endodontically treated, they were randomly distributed into 3 groups: group 1, restored with quarts fiber post(D.T. Light-Post), group 2, with glass fiber post(FRC Postec), and group 3, metal cast post and core. All teeth were fully covered with nonprecious metal crowns. Each specimen was embedded in an acrylic resin block and then secured in a universal load-testing machine. A compressive load was applied at a 130 degree angle to the long axis of the tooth until fractured, at a crosshead speed 20mm/min. The highest fracture loads were measured and recorded as the fracture strength of each specimen. Fracture areas were measured on the mid-buccal and mid-lingual point from the crown margins. One-way analysis of variance and Turkey test were used to determine the statistic significance of the different fracture loads and areas among the groups (p<0.05). Results: The mean fracture loads were $1391{\pm}$425N(group 1), $1458{\pm}476N$(group 2) and $1301{\pm}319N$(group 3). The fracture loads among the three groups had no statistically signifiant difference (p>.05). The mean fracture area of the fiber post was closer to the crown margin than that of the metal cast post and core(p<.05). The metal cast post showed unrestorable and catastrophic fracture patterns. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, fracture loads with any statistically significant difference were not recorded for endodontically treated teeth restored with two fiber posts and the metal cast post. But teeth restored with the fiber posts typically showed the fracture pattern close to the crown margin, which was almost restorable.
